I thought they weren't allowed back on Lake Minnetonka.

That guy is such a beast, it's too bad he has to spend his prime years w/ such a bad team. It's Barry Sanders all over again.

Barry is over-rated. He had many carries for minimal yards, but would always bust out a big run or two every game. Bo Jackson is the RB who would have had the record if he had stayed healthy, but he didn't. So bow down to Mr. Emmit Smith.

Away. Blows his teammates away.

So, either the rest of the Vikings are so bad, an injured player in the middle of rehab is still faster than the rest of them; or, the vikings have so little heart and desire, that their only way to motivate the team is to have their one stand-out player risk his health in a futile attempt at lighting a fire inside the others.

/Or it's both.

Yep wasting his career away with the vikings

Even with a healthy AP, this team's destined for 4th place in their division.

After reading this thread I am now convinced that Peterson is going to be back at full strength on opening day to lead the Vikings to dominate their division and a playoff berth.

Huh? Barry wouldn't have had the record if he didn't retire so early? You're crazy if you believe that and think Bo would have ever put up better numbers

I'm glad I bet two of my buddies a case of beer each that Steven Jackson would stay within 50 fantasy points of Peterson last year.

/IIRC he was only 12-15 points behind when we ended things in week 16

Bo would have beaten the crap out of Barry. As Smith did. Don't give me your typical line of Lion BS fan crap either. Barry had 3 pro bowl team guys blocking for him. Emmit was better, tougher, and not the douche that Barry was. Bo Jackson could have eclipsed them both.

From what I know it's the side to side cutting motions that can damage, moving forward without reservation comes well months before a player can go all out.

I agree. Bo Jackson was a fricking horse! The dude had it all. It's a shame he got hurt.

Adrian's knees are pretty solid going north/south, he was damaged going east/west.

barry only played with a QB who managed to make himself a threat consistently for two seasons over the course of his career. he played with rodney pete, erik kramer, scott mitchel and charlie freaking batch. they were bad teams most of the time. almost every year the sane approach to detroit was to completely ignore everyone but barry. you can't say that about any other great rb in the modern era.

barry sanders wasn't only the best nfl runningback in history, he was the most talented football player ever period.
he and randy moss were the only modern players that consistently made the other team look like they weren't talented NFL defensive squads, but rather like a bunch of players from ball state in nfl uniforms. but moss could go multiple games without showing that talent though. I defy you to find me a clip of somone, anyone, tackling sanders with a good solid hit. it was literally impossible. almost everyttime it was an arm tackle most often around the knees if not the ankles.

there isn't one sane person who could watch one of those 10 minute youtube highlight films of sanders, realize that he did those things multiple times in literally every game he played in, and not be aware that there has never been such a large gulf of pure physical talent between an offensive player and everyone else in the modern era. if he played aas long as he could have he would have every record in the books. if he played on emmit's cowboys he would have run for 25,000 yards.

I'm not sure how the thread got jacked into a discussion about Barry Sanders but let's get back on topic: Adrian Peterson's health is irrelevant because with him, the Vikings are a 5-11 or 6-10 team. Without him, they're a 3-13 team.

Considering the teams that Detroit, Chicago and Green Bay are putting out, the Vikings are looking at a distant 4th place behind 3 playoff teams who will pass for a combined 14,000 yards and 100+ touchdowns.

Barry had three pro-bowl linemen blocking for him. You Lions fans are the worst history revisionists in the league Poor barry had the worst offensive line in the world! Only 3 pro bowl guys on it..Keep telling your tales and he will have been handcuffed by Detroit cops next time. Barry was good, but you Detroit fans make it silly.

muck4doo: Oh? My bad then.

Barry Sanders is the Michael Jordan of football for '90s fans (sans titles). If you read what people type about them, you'd think that every game, Barry Sanders ran for 300+ yards and the team lost 70-67 because his team couldn't play defense or score if he wasn't the guy scoring. He also had no offensive line - it was just Barry out there against 11 defenders and he clowned them on every play. Just like Michael Jordan shot 49-for-50 every game, missing one shot at the beginning just to toy with a defender and make him think he could stop him. Then in the playoffs, Jordan always went 50-for-50 and he did it with no one else on the team - that's just how good he was. He completely locked down his man on defense and the only reason any team scored against him was because the other players on the Bulls got in Jordan's way and prevented him from being able to guard all five players at once.

charlie batch was his qb, so was eric kramer, so was rodney pete, so was scott mitchel, you might not know who these guys were, but they sucked ass. and he was on a losing team more often than not. they were bad teams very often. I was just shooting down the idea that he was somehow he was on a good team becuase 3 teamates went to a pro bowl once over the course of his career. the way muck tells it, the 1990's lions were a Juggernaut. they were the same old f*cking POS lions.

care to guess how many players on Emmit smiths teams managed to get at least an alternate pro bowl invite over the course of their careers? here, I'll list the pro bowlers and the firs team all pros emmit played with IN JUST HIS FIRST YEARS IN THE LEAGUE.

QB Troy Aikman* all pro
FB Daryl Johnston* all pro
WR Michael Irvin* all pro
TE Jay Novacek* all pro
T Erik Williams*+ all pro
T Nate Newton* all pro
OLB Charles Haley* all pro
S Darren Woodson* all pro
RG Larry Allen* all pro
CB dieon Sanders all pro
K Richie Cunningham all pro
C Mark Stepnoski*
C Ray Donaldson*
DT Leon Lett*
DT Russell Maryland*
MLB Ken Norton*
LB Jim Schwantz*
DE Tony Tolbert*
OLB Dexter Coakley*

the team could have been declared the team of the century for christ sake. he had two all pro tackles (that means the player is absolute best at his position in the nfl) and all pro guard, and two pro bowl centers in his first 8 years. nevermind the all pro qb, wrs, and defensive players. and he still couldn't get near sanders yards per rush numbers that he consistently put up on a bad team. emmit can't hold barry's jock.

the only rb that was as dominant in nfl when he played as barry sanders was jim brown, but he did it on a really good team in an era when the DTs were 6'2" and 235 pounds, and couldn't run 4.9 40 times.

/jordan won six titles. I doubt any of his fans needs to explain he played on inadequate teams in the early 80's to justify bona fides.
