blatz514: rickycal78: KarlMaldensNose: rickycal78: leftteffticle: rickycal78: SirEattonHogg: I'm spending my summer in Wisconsin and I have to say there is little in terms of activities here that doesn't involve booze (and by booze I mean beer).

You trying to say there's activities to do here that DON'T involve alcohol? The hell you say! Anything can be done with beer in Wisconsin. Hunting, fishing, driving, biking, cooking, lawnwork, shoveling, plowing, all forms of farm work, any kind of get together, camp fires, sledding, etc. You name it we'll do it with beer!

this is not even an exaggeration. either we're freezing our nuts off and need a malty blanket or it's too goddamn hot and we need the cooling power of beer. even the catholic church i went to as a kid always had a polka mass in the beer tent during the church festival. everyone had a beer in hand for the service, priest included. it's honestly weird to me that there are places where you really actually get in trouble the first time you get a OWI.

Pretty much. Hell sometimes some of the smaller towns will make shiat up as a reason to get together and drink. I remember spending summers at my grandparents place. They lived in a small unincorporated town that at best had 30ish people. But I'll be damned if they didn't have their Pioneer days every year at the town hall. Softball games, polka, turkey shoots, pig roast, horse shoes, dunk tank and foul outhouses (yes outhouses, not portajohns), and of course loads of cheap beer.

A picture of a bar in said unincorporated town. Myself and Rickycal would go there for the occasional Mountain Dew and chips back in the day. Link Yeah the owner is as big of a redneck as you might imagine.

Ah yes, the Plywood Palace. I can't believe the owner used to let us pick up the occasional 6 pack for gramma back in the day, not to mention let us buy pop and play pool over there.

I kinda wish you had a more distant shot of the place so you could see it better.

Picture this folk ...

To be fair that is the nickname the locals gave to the place a long time ago. I'm pretty the place is simply called The Moquah Bar. (Moquah is the name of the small unincorporated town it is in. Not very far away from the local Catholic Church.)

OWI? Only a white idiot.

2012-05-29 05:50:48 PM
Blame this whole misunderstanding on a rookie cop. Although the appearance, noise level, and speed on the highways can be deceiving, those vehicles lined up outside the bar are Harley motorcycles, not lawn tractors.

2012-05-29 05:56:11 PM
Does OWI = operating while intoxicated? I've never seen that acronym before.

Still better than Quantico Marine Corps Base, which would nail the Marines with WWI (walking while intoxicated). Nope, I kid you not.

I love you guys! Born and raised in Chippewa Falls. I'm working on my second Leinies. For years I'd told my husband about "TIBs" and he tried to say I had confirmation bias. I was almost ready to believe him until we met Ron and Lana from Chicago on our honeymoon snorkeling excursion. Loud, obnoxious, drunk and annoying? YES! He hates Illinoians (or Illannoyings) as much as me now.

Yikes, after checking the street view it looks like Gramma's old place has gone to shiat since she left there. Hell the Kmetz's old place looks better.

Bud's bar looks about the same.

Yeah, there's more bars than churches around here. Drinking a beer on the way to the bar is pretty common around here as well.

I as well! Only time we don't grill is severe snow - where our grill sits is in an area where the winds whip the snow into huge drifts.

Hard to cook out when you can't reach the Weber!

Lightweight! I've shoveled 18 inches snow off my deck to get the darn BBQ. (course, I shovel the deck so the dogs don't drag in snow too). I grill all winter long. The fun part is checking to see if the meat is done because it's already dark out.

They give out DUI for when they find pot on you if they pull you over. Then they take you to the nearest hospital to get a blood test to test for THC It's great fun.

Best bar hopping I found in Milwaukee is Brady street. Waters Ave (safe house area) is all overpriced bars.

And Wisconsinites don't drink beers in their cars, they're called Road Soda's. ie hang on, I gotta get a six pack of road sodas. The true professionals get a 30 pk of Milwaukee's Best Light and put it in between the front seats.

As many as they can get a fee for. I mean, seriously, this guy is lot less dangerous on a tractor than in a car. In the future, he might as well just drive his car drunk since it's the same penalty... the consequences will never be the same.

Random Anonymous Blackmail: They sell alcohol at Walgreens? Truly a wonder this place is.

I'm pretty sure that they do in every state except NJ. In fact it seems commonplace in most supermarkets. But here in NJ, I think that the Wegmen's chain are the only ones that do do it.

At least it's not like PA where you have to buy your hard liquor in one store, and your beer in another one.
