Give it up already. It was a funny movie when I was 11, and a crappy sequel a few years later. Now I'm thirty farking eight and no longer in the demographic. And younger people sure don't care about it.

Why can't they just make a Real Ghostbusters movie? Hire some animators... get the originals to do the voices... it's not rocket surgery.

(like the GB video game, but sensical)

Unfortunately. The difference is Ghostbusters 3 will undo everything MiB3 just accomplished.

I'd see that, just for old time's sake.

Oh, please let us hope so. So all these Mellinails can truly see that their humor, their movies, their culture is utter and complete shiat when compared to the greatness that was the 80's.

Actually, they do. And it can be friggin' hilarious if they did it right. The only reason some of you are crying noooooooooo, is because of the suck that was Ghostbusters 2. Ya, ya, ya knowit.

Short answer: Done in one.
Long answer: Done in two.

What the f#ck did MiB3 "accomplish" beyond a payday for Smith & Jones? I sat through it yesterday in 3D with my 7 year old son, and we were both bored silly... dull plot, minimal cool effects, dull as dirt. The first one was good, didn't see #2, wish I still had my 20 bucks from seeing #3.

Agreed. MIB3 was boring as shat and the "Plot" was written on the wall in letters so large the blind could see them.

As Dan Aykroyd has said, the game was essentially the third film, so we'd be getting part four if a filmed sequel was made.

2012-05-28 11:12:29 AM
From what I remember both Ackroyd and Ramis ixnayed a third movie a long time ago, and then did the game as a "Ok fine, here you go, more Ghostbusters, now leave us the fark alone."

They'd have to get new writers and a new cast, which would utterly destroy everything that made the first movie.

No. It was better than MIB 2 but no where near the first movie.

You can tell nothing after a week. Films like Avatar and MI:GP kept making money where most movies drop off after a week. You can get an audience on marketing, reputation and that it's being released at a quiet time. If word-of-mouth falls, then people will be going to see Prometheus instead.

Why does everyone shiat on GB2? It was essentially the same movie. And it's not like GB1 was some sort of classic masterpiece. It was a dumb popcorn flick just like 2. I still think it's a great film.

My admittedly optimistic theory is that people are as hungry as they've ever been for original, quality entertainment, if the success of the shows of AMC are any proof. It's just that Hollywood has completely lost its balls. Every now and then, you see a movie like The Avengers that is pure Hollywood pap, but it's done well, so it's excused. I suspect it's not that audiences have changed so much as the studios have.

I think it has to do with how out of left field the first GB was. It was a really surprising mix of comedy, SFX and some minor horror elements that came together perfectly. It's really hard to top something that original and I think peoples expectations for the second one were too high. I enjoyed GB2 even though I think the first one was better.

No. Men in Black is a fun franchise primarily because of the setting and crazy hijinks themselves, Ghostbusters was fun because of the cast (the setting was kinda meh). Basically, you can't push Ghostbusters with new actors the way you can MIB.

Seeing the original movie in the theater isn't necessarily seeing it on the date of its original release. I saw the Long Goodbye in a theater like a few months ago, old prints are still around and people still use 'em.

/we are talking Ghostbusters and not MiB, right?

2012-05-28 02:35:31 PM
Ummmm, according to an article I read yesterday MiB is underperforming expectations. And as I've understood it the hang up for GB3 is Bill Murray doesn't want to do it, not that Sony hasn't been interested.

Disgruntled Goat: Who is it on Fark who insists on greenlighting any submission with "Ghostbusters 3" in the headline?

Rick Moranis

The alleged cost of Men in Black III is about $215. As is usually the case, this does not include marketing costs. As of today the movie is sitting at a worldwide gross of about $203 million. While not quite a flop, this is not exactly a resounding success. By the end of its theatrical run it will likely have made a profit, but I'm guessing that it wouldn't be anything astounding.

Quite simply, as far as I can tell, Men in Black III underperformed compared to many of the weekend predictions, which in and of themselves were likely well below what the studio would have hoped for. So I don't see how in the world this is supposed to be good news for Ghostbusters 3?

Nope. He retired from acting many years ago. He won't even come out for Dan Aykroyd's bizarre quest to get Ghostbusters 3 greenlit.

Ghostbusters was good, two was farking horrible and that should kill any sequel.

Well, count me the odd man out. I liked MiB 3. It didn't suck, decent plot, etc. etc. It sure as hell wasn't bad, which can't be said for GB 2, MiB 2 or, dare I mention it, Highlander 2.

Semi-spoilers below...

MIB 3 died five minutes in when the bad guy ran past the historical exhibit of the Lunar Module with the ascent stage still in place. Millions of dollars on production and effects and no one noticed? CG guys didn't question it? Just stupid and sloppy.

Pretty much downhill from there.

Has anyone actually watched Ghostbusters II lately?

IT DID NOT SUCK. As good as the original? Heck no. But that doesn't make it bad.

All the hate I see is "I hate it because I saw it 20 years ago and it isn't as good as the first, or I heard someone else hate it so I hate it too!"
