yeah, cutting the lowest tax rate for individuals from 3.5% to 3% is BAD for the poor.

Also lowering the state sales tax is bad for the poor.

bad, bad, bad.

That all you got? Massive cuts to social services to pay for completely eliminating taxes for the rich are OK because the poor had their taxes cut by one half of one percent?

what? a cut from 3.5% to 3% means their taxes were cut by about a 14 percent.

Oh, we know what's going on, we're just scratching our heads and trying to figure out why so many people are rejecting the concept of the "Public Commons" and selectively quoting "founding fathers" in doing so while ignoring the reality that "The Public Commons" was one of the founding principles behind the events that led up to the declaration of independence and the war against Britain.

If you think that what Kansas is doing here will benefit Kansans, just consider the 25 BILLION dollar budget shortfall that Texas is facing. The very low standards of health care in Texas. The extreme degredation of air quality in Texas, especially in and around Houston and Dallas.

odinsposse: Not farked, just evil. There are several states with no income taxes at all. They get revenue from other taxes. So even if this law eliminates income taxes for their professional workers the state will still get income and won't collapse. It just punishes people for not being one of those workers and those are just the kind of people who don't have the mobility to quit their job and leave for another state.

Punishing poor people for being poor is undeniably evil but the state won't die because of it.

Wait, that isn't true. Conservatives have been telling me over and over again that the wealthy pay SOOO much more in taxes and the lower-wage and poor people hardly pay any.

If you take away the tax money from the only people that actually contribute financially to the state government, how will the state continue to support said government? How will they keep roads, sewers, Brownback's salary, national guard, police, etc? Everything maybe having significant use fees, like Colorado Springs?

Donor states like California and New York have military bases as well, so how does this make Kansas less of a welfare state?

Why did the District of Columbia, clearly one of the most liberal places in the country, take in $5.55 in federal spending for every dollar of federal tax paid? (2005 - other years vary - 2004, the year of the famous chart above was $6.28)

Detroit's economy didn't tank because of tax policies; it was primarily due to the fact that it was a heavy manufacturing city (automotive in particular), and those jobs ended up being outsourced or lost due to oversees competition. What the hell did tax policies have to do with it?

Beyond that, you paint the city like it's a sh*thole through and through, which is simply not the case.

Someone in this thread said that if the state of KS took in 10 cents more than they paid in they are still welfare queens. Am I supposed to take hyperbole like that seriously? But at the same time it's a "strawman" to point out, accurately, that many individual taxpayers get back more than they pay in.

There is no mistake. You're just desperately trying to distract from the huge inequity and horrible socio-economic consequences by looking at the miniscule change as a percentage OF the percentage they pay, which looks larger. Of course the decrease the rich and corporations will see is 100%, using that math, but that's not important, I'm sure.

Seriously? I mean, really? DC residents pay the highest federal taxes per capita.

The reason DC receives so much federal money is because it's the freaking capital of the country. The federal government operates the courts, there are huge security costs, federal government is exempt from property taxes, and Congress has explicitly forbidden the imposition of certain taxes such as commuter tax.

Good god you're an idiot.

Considering that JC is eat up with pawn shops, I deeply doubt it. Besides, you could always head over to Pat's Pawn & Gun in lovely Ogden, KS.

"Remember, Pat's Pawn & Gun for all your gun needs."
