I wouldn't say the people despise her for being of German descent, at least not today, but it is true that George V did change the family name from Saxe-Coburg-Goethe to Windsor during WW I to deflect attention from the fact that Kaiser Wilhelm was his first cousin.

The British royal family's German roots date back to George I, of Hanover. It's not like it's a recent change.

The British Empire still exists, they just renamed it.

Yeah, I think you need to relearn your history. Without intervention from Spain and France, the United States would have lost the revolutionary war. The French fleet and European allies (Marquis de Lafayette, maybe?) are big reasons that we're not part of the Dominion of North America.

Further, while we 'bailed them out' of World War 1, losing said war would not have been as wholly disasterous as losing WWII would have been, and we joined the fight in full long after the Blitz. Further, having a huge industrial base far from enemy attack/raids is a BIG advantage, as well as a homefront that couldn't be the subject of any reasonable attack. While Days of Infamy cover a Japanese invasion of Hawaii as part of the actions on December 7th, such an actual invasion was damned unlikely to succeed - Pearl Harbor was a raid, and a fairly successful one at that (in the short term, at least).

Further, by comminality of tounge and history, the United States had fairly been good allies with England since the Aristook War, the resolution of which also included fixing the Columbia border (Washington vs British Columbia) along the 49'th parallel.

Further, let us look at the Empire. Excepting South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia... how many colonies and territories were actually mostly populated by natives? Nearly all, and there were pleeeennnty of issues with South Africa. Aparthied, anyone?

You'd rather the Brits hold onto territories in a setting where the natives are demanding more and more indipendnece? The British are actual humane, after all - not Nazis trying to force their control over other people (Contrast Slovakia). In the (modern) era, trying to force people to stick in a political arrangement they don't want simply isn't possible. THe Brits would have to have military patrolling the streets and have martial law clamped down everywhere, and do you think the average guy in Manchester or London would support that?
