And for doing so, you've earned this:

Ugh. I'm not going to argue with you guys tonight. I have a ton of respect for people who wear the uniform and fight our wars, meaningful wars or not. The word hero gets thrown around too much but it is important they get the appreciation they deserve from us, because the government f*cks them over.

Here's a funny story though, I went to the store to get beer this evening and I parked next to a newer Dodge Neon with two German Shepherds in it. They were barking at me but they were doing ok the windows were down some and it was in the shade. When I came back out there was litter and scraps all on the ground, the whole car was shaking and I looked to see what was going on and this dog tugged his head up with a whole bunch of the seat cushion in his mouth. They ripped the entire interior of that car to shreds. I felt bad to laugh but it was hilarious.

DamnYankees: He's right. Simply being a soldier and dying in the line of duty doesn't make anyone a hero.

Really? Do YOU have the guts to make it through basic training, advanced infantry training, and then go stand on a post in the middle of bum fark Egypt and get shot at? Do you? Do YOU know the fear of knowing that every single day when you go out in that convey you could hit an IED and it this will be your last day on earth? Yet you suck it up and have the courage to go out there anyway? Do you know what it's like to be shot four farking times like my nephew, and yet go right back out there as soon as the wound heals? I don't care what all you liberal farking DBs on Fark think, ANYONE who goes through that - and then dies for it on top of it all - IS A HERO!

Hell, he's not even doing that much. He agrees that war dead should be memorialized and honored. He is just questioning whether they should all be called heroes.

But keep acting like he just spit on a WWII vet's grave with your little lib-hate circle jerk.

Oh, and no soldier, dead or alive, ever gave me the right to do anything. Rights are universal and inalienable... unless you think our founding documents were just a bunch of pretty words with no meaning.

There might be some Revolutionary War soldiers who would disagree. England did not let us go quietly. Moran.

SO basically, Chris Hayes makes a pretty smart comment on his show Sunday morning. He basically said that he doesn't feel comfortable calling fallen US Soldiers "Heroes" because very often political forces in our country use blind allegiance of the armed forces to justify our military excesses and to shore up their own domestic power. Then he had a Soldier's mother come on talking about the high rate of suicide among veterans. It was hardly controversial at all until the mouthbreathers took one quote out of context.

America, this is why we can't have nice things.

Anyway, let's say your brother heroically saves some people in a dining facility by diving on an exploding iBook. Well, it still killed my sister so she's a hero who was killed in action running the register. And the guy who was so traumatized he can't eat lasagna anymore and so on til Elvis gets the Congressional Medal of Honor and we can't question LaToya's analysis of foreign policy So now we're invading Australia to get the kangaroo's purses that rightfully belong to our Exceptional Great Americans.

The point is the UNIFORM didn't make your brother smart and it won't make him a hero, either.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

This is what many Americans actually believe.
Never mind that the first did everything he could to stay away from his generation's war, and the second was a decorated bomber pilot in the most dangerous theater of all.
Waving the flag and talking tough from a position of safety is all it really takes.

And you know who earned his bones destroying George McGovern by lying about his war record?

That's right. Turdblossom. He's currently working on getting Mitt Romney elected so we can go to war with Iran. You know, so we can have more to celebrate on Memorial Day.
