Great. My parents just left port on a cruise to Bermuda. Now I'm going to be worried for an entire week. I hope they will be ok.

"But business was booming at Red Dog Surf Shop in New Smyrna Beach, where customers flocked to buy boards and wax in anticipation of the storm's high waves."

Yep.

Something to note: This is the first time we've had two named Atlantic storms before the official start of the Hurricane Season (June 1) since they began naming storms (1950.)

Also had a named storm in the Pacific.

I'm in Jax and not much weather so far. Radar looks like thats going to be changing real soon though.

Indubitably:
Change yer calculations and calendars.

Why? A minor tropical storm in late May isn't exactly bizarre. They're not common, but it's not that far out of the ordinary, either. There have been actual hurricanes in May, for that matter.

Crappy Network News must be thrilled. Now they can go into all hurricane all the time mode.

Lot's off wind and high waves out on Tybee Island this morning. Feeder bans coming through with wind, but no rain. No raiding of Publix\s either.

All but six members of my family tree live in that area, so I'm keeping a close eye on it. I guess they've had some fire issues or otherwise dry weather, so this might help.

Hrm...this might be good time to update my emergency kit for the year.

I'm in southern SC. We had about three minutes of rain this afternoon, and then the sun came back out. It's supposed to hit harder tomorrow, though.

And my wife wonders why I hesitate to move us back to my family's ancestral home. I'd like to do it, but there's a very slim chance I would.

Eastern N C just saw a band of the storm blow through too.

Much like your mom, Beryl will be blowing the entire southeast coast of the United States.

I'm in Charleston and we're just waiting on this thing to come. No panic or mass chaos, just caution being paid to water activities.

Getting some fairly decent rain bands in Brevard at the moment; Beryl looking very impressive on the GOES floater.

If it were over the Gulf Stream for longer, we could be looking at a Cat 1, but doubt it'll get much beyond its current state.

Ah, there it is. Usually take the bookmark off in October and can't remember until you post it again in May/June.

Same in Mt. Pleasant. Windy as heck all day but pretty much sunny and business as usual. These things never really seem to hit us, do they?

Checking in from Jacksonville.

Local news is saying Beryl is going to have hurricane force gusts. They also seem to be implying that the storm could possibly be upgraded to a Cat 1. We'll see how it goes.
