assjuice: No, liking this does not make you any more ironic or unique than someone who claims to be afraid of clowns or pretends to idolize chuck norris.

Who said it did? I like the show because I find it entertaining and I enjoy watching it.

It may be hard for you to accept but not everyone shares your opinion on what is or isn't a good show.

You know, Lauren Faust designed the show so that parents could watch it with their kids and also enjoy it--including Dads. I'd say she's been smashingly successful. The creator's track record (PowerPuff Girls, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends) really bears that out. No more Animation Age Ghetto.

It's a great show, with talented writers, voice actors, and animators. If you don't like it, then that's fine.

Completely agree with you.

I'd say that the cartoon is about pastel colored marshmallow ponies is completely secondary. It's the quality upon it's built what makes it good. Oh, and don't forget the music, the music is amazing!

Some people are just too concerned about the wrapping to see what's inside the box.

If the show is funny and you like it, then watch it. Bronies aren't pedophiles any more than Family Guy fans are necessarily retarded.

Skyfrog: CapnPlaty: My daughter has been watching this on Netflix. I caught a few episodes and the show is very entertaining. Good balance of quirky characters, quiet shy one, rich snooty one, sporty one, country one, and a book smart one. Pinkie Pie is quite manic and funny, reminds me of my youngest daughter

I don't think Rarity is supposed to be rich and she isn't really snooty (her role is actually the element of generosity). She is however a drama queen, somewhat vain and a germaphobe. Diamond Tiara is the rich snob of the show.

Her 'Summon Fainting Couch' spell had me laughing like a madman. Mostly because I know girls who do that if they could.

Kaybeck: jaylectricity: Can somebody please explain what a brony is? I keep associating it with a jabroni like they talk about in Always Sunny.

They're a bunch of incredibly socially inept people that used the My Little Pony cartoon reboot as a rallying point. You know the weirdos that wear the furry costumes? Think that but with a kid's cartoon instead of mascot suits.

I love how people on Fark think they're mainstream enough to harshly judge their fellow nerds.

Its like the idiots on 4chan whining incessantly about furry porn and then posting 200-picture threads of shiatting dick nipples.

I have a theory that the folks that say 'It's a GIRL'S SHOW!!!!11!!1' to slam bronies are actually dealing with their own sense of shame at some of their first wank material being Jem and She-Ra when they were kids. Kind of like how many of the most vitriolic anti-gay rhetoric come from closeted gays.

It's a bit different then that. People into shiatting dick nipple porn? They realize it's a weird fettish. They don't defend it. They just say "this is sick weird assed shiat and I love it." Furries? They get all bent out of shape, try to justify it, defend it, swear it's perfectly normal, etc.

This is why the bronies always go on about the show teaching tolerance, because every other social group rejected them. You see the same thing with gay kids and Lady Gaga with the Little Monsters branding.

And that's all well and good. It's nice that people have a place where they can fit in. However let's call a spade a spade, and stop pretending the primary appeal has anything to do with content for adults, or voice acting or what have you.

Dhusk: I love how people on Fark think they're mainstream enough to harshly judge their fellow nerds.

Alright, I avoided the urge to respond for like a kazillion posts now.

You now what? I watched the Pony cartoon. Two or three episodes. It's not bad! It's not that great, but it's not bad. I planted my face on any number of shows which are just not bad, but not great, so I'm not arguing against that.

I don't know how in the nine hecks the people in this thread instantly leapt from creepy to pedo. I've seen some damn creepy shiat in my little time on the webs (and sadly in the RL), and only very rarely does creepy stray into the pedo territory. In fact, I would go so far as to say that creepy is almost never pedo.

My complaint against the "brony" is the 20-something dude who loudly and proudly proclaims his aficionado status with a cartoon aimed at tweens. You like a show, you watch a show, you do it in private? Cool. You project your inner brony into the public square? I'm going to be necessarily a bit squicked out by your noise.

Admittedly I haven't watched many episodes, Rarity is a clean freak fashionista, probably a more fair descriptor.

Just watched an episode where the dragon (Spike) feel asleep in the punch bowl and Pinkie Pie said "the punch had been spiked!" Everyone but my eight year old laughed at that.

The show is cute and entertaining, plus it keeps her from watching those insipid Bratz movies on Netflix. Those have none of the humor or entertainment value of MLP.

Just watching it and enjoying it isn't too bad, but the people who tend to adopt the mantle of "brony" go quite a bit beyond that. Watching grown men prance around with My Little Pony dolls while wearing My Little Pony t-shirts and discussing the latest episode with their My Little Pony fanclub is more disturbing than I can say. And if you think there isn't anything sexual about it for some of these people, you haven't seen the copious amounts of My Little Pony porn that exists.

Crazy people will make rule 34 of anything and everything. Rule 34's own closing text is 'no exceptions', after all. These people are called 'crazy.'
If one is going to dislike everything on the internet that's ever has rule 34 made of it, there's not going to be much internet left over; think about it.

Similarly, there are people who get married in the Klingon language, in full Klingon regalia. That doesn't mean Star Trek sucks, or that everyone who has ever watched Star Trek is that far gone. It's still okay to enjoy star trek.

You're welcome to your opinion of course, but when it comes to why I like the show I must say you are wrong. I enjoy it for the same reasons I enjoy any show. The characters are well written and entertaining, I like the animation style, great music and yes the voice acting is all very good. I realize that not everyone has the same taste in entertainment but I don't judge people for not liking the same shows or music that I do. You really shouldn't either.

What is freakishly interested? There are fan clubs for pretty much everything, from Chess to Star Wars to classical authors. You're just picking on this particular show because you are under the impression that it is only for children. Why, because it is animated? Family Guy is animated and it has talking animals, is that only for little children?

Is it because in the 80s MLP was a shallow girly girly show based on a toy line for girls? This show is nothing like it at all. Lauren Faust made it a point to change the stereotypical goody goody just for girls stuff into something intelligently written that could be enjoyed by all ages.

If you have watched the show with an open mind and you still don't like it that's all very well, I don't like Bob's Burgers but I understand that plenty of people do. If you haven't even watched the show and are just bashing it on some preconceived notion that it's just for kids well that's called ignorance. Either way live and let live, the show is very popular with adults and nothing you do or say can change that.

No, the problem is that you think what's happening with My Little Pony is unique.

Let's recount other pop culture fads and their various initial detractors throughout the decades, shall we?

--Anyone who like Rock and Roll was a communist or a delinquent.(50s)

--Anyone who likes Star Trek/Star Wars is a nerd and a forever virgin (70s)

--Anyone who played a role-playing game was a satanist(80s)

--Anyone one good with computers is an asocial nerd (80s)

--Anyone who watches anime is an ultraviolent rapist.(early 90s)

--Video games cause ultraviolent behavior (90s)

--Gamers are slackers and losers (2000s)

--Anyone over 10 who likes the Muppets/Spongebob/Animal Crossing/Comic Books/Anything but approved sweaty machio bullshiat is a Pedo. (2000s)

I'm sorry, are you detecting a pattern of complete and total horseshiat yet?

Do you understand exactly where you stand with your idiot accusation of claiming that someone who likes a cartoon automatically makes them a 'Pedo', which suspiciously seems to be your favorite word?

Spongebob Squarepants started out exactly like My Little Pony is--a well-done kid's show that garnered a huge following among adults, especially college students. Are all adult fans of Spongebob--millions of them over the past 10 years--pedos too?

Another thing about the show is that there are positive male role models. Shining Armor is the most recent and probably the best example, with Big Macintosh a close second.

Yes, all the main characters are female, but at the same time it doesn't lapse into the "men are stupid" thing that so many shows do. What a concept!

So basically it sounds like you're a sad bitter man who is so insecure in your masculinity that you feel threatened when others enjoy watching a cartoon that you believe is just for little girls. Everyone should feel good about themselves even if they have to resort mocking others to feel that way. Its sad the world has to be like that but there will always be people like you who look down on others. So you just go on with your crusade of hate over a television show and we the rest of us will go on enjoying it. That way everyone is happy.

Kaybeck: Like I already said, if you pony boys want to hang out and enjoy your pretty pony show, do whatever makes you happy. Just don't fool yourself into thinking that because a bunch of you think it's not weird that you're watching a little girl's show, (and yes I've watched the show to see what the deal was) that it's not actually weird that you're watching a little girl's show.

How dare people enjoy something not officially sanctioned by the Nerd Gestapo?!? That's like watching Battlestar Galactica more than Firefly! It's enough to make a REAL man want to burn his $10k Anime collection and stop pretending to be expert on all things Japanese.

Kaybeck: Hand Banana: Yes, lets all stop pretending that people can like a show that Kaybeck doesn't. Kaybeck is the authority on what and what isn't suitable for adults to watch, and if they don't watch something that Kaybeck approves of they are clearly deviants.

Or...if could be that people truly do like the show because it is well written and entertaining and Kaybeck is just a pretentious douche who's manhood feels threatened by something he doesn't understand.

Never said you were deviants. I said you were socially inept. Look at Lady Gaga's fanbase, how rabidly devoted they are. A lot of them are ostracized gay kids that don't fit in. Now they're part of their little fan club where they do fit in. You're no different.

Lol, christ, what are you, 15?

You sound like some spineless bully's toady trying to prove how manly he is by calling other people gay or something.

The world isn't high school, junior. No one in the real world actually cares who watches what. We have rent to pay, we have jobs to work at, we have real problems with real people to deal with. If you don't like us taking a half hour out to watching a show you don't like, well, that's really a lot more your farking problem than ours, isn't it?

If you think 'bronies' are pathetic, how much more pathetic are you, wasting all your time and effort hating on them? You didn't have to come into this thread, you didn't have to respond to any comment. You could have been off doing your own thing completely unrelated to bronies or ponies or anything. How much of your life have you just wasting biatching at something you supposedly hate when you could have been doing something you enjoy?

Its not the bronies who are the pathetic ones here, junior.
