A brony is a man who likes the My Little Pony cartoon show. They are in fact as creepy as that sounds.

Also, flash animation game? Download? ...?

There are plenty of creepy things in the world.

That doesn't make "bronies" any less creepy. It's ike having a van with "free candy" on the side.

Mentally, at least, if not physically.

So, when does "Copyright Cautionary Cavalcade 3" come out?

They're a bunch of incredibly socially inept people that used the My Little Pony cartoon reboot as a rallying point. You know the weirdos that wear the furry costumes? Think that but with a kid's cartoon instead of mascot suits.

So, you automatically equate enjoying a cartoon with pedophiles?

All those people watching Fox Sunday Nights should be targeted by the cops.

I wonder... does cartoons = pedo apply to new shows only, or is rewatching cartoons from our youth an issue as well?

I don't think I know anybody who would want to watch MLP with a little kid. They'd keep talking the whole time and make us miss the pop culture references.

I don't think "bronies" are pedophiles. Just really farkin weird. I mean, it's a show for little girls. Just watching it and enjoying it isn't too bad, but the people who tend to adopt the mantle of "brony" go quite a bit beyond that. Watching grown men prance around with My Little Pony dolls while wearing My Little Pony t-shirts and discussing the latest episode with their My Little Pony fanclub is more disturbing than I can say. And if you think there isn't anything sexual about it for some of these people, you haven't seen the copious amounts of My Little Pony porn that exists.

I don't disagree, to a point.

First off, rule 34 applies to pretty much everything. It definitely isn't strictly pony. Every fandom has its small group that wants to fark whatever it is a fan of.

Second, every fandom has its group that has gone around the bend and become kind of obsessive. Hell, some things, like comic books, are comprised completely of that small group, and nothing else.

My daughter has been watching this on Netflix. I caught a few episodes and the show is very entertaining. Good balance of quirky characters, quiet shy one, rich snooty one, sporty one, country one, and a book smart one. Pinkie Pie is quite manic and funny, reminds me of my youngest daughter

Basically, yeah.

It's kinda like how in theory furries shouldn't really be any creepier than anyone else with an unusual fetish, but in practice they really, really are. Something about it is just... unsettling. It would almost be less creepy if the "bronies" were just pedophiles, rather than grown men who unironically like a show aimed at six year old girls.

There isn't anything wrong with most of the fans of MLP. Just like there isn't anything wrong with most of the fans of Pokemon, or any other series that isn't aimed strictly at kids. Well, except maybe the Sonic fandom. Those guys are weirdos.

I don't understand the "ZOMG MY LITTLE PONY IS A SHOW FOR LITTLE GIRLS" arguments, unless they're from, I don't know, really insecure people who also rail about how Videogames are for kids why are you playing them as an adult, GEEZ, what's wrong with you?!, and such.

Because Animaniacs was a show for little kids. So was Pinky and The Brain.

But adults could, and did, enjoy watching those shows as well, because the writers threw in jokes only the adults would get, and they were often genuinely entertaining.

Like this joke. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xmAC9Qu908 .

And, though I have not watched it, I seem to absorb knowledge of things I haven't experienced (curse you, physics degree), and it seems there are, among other things, The Big Lebowski and Dr. Who references in My Little Pony.

That said, I do wish to challenge Subby's Assertion: Both X-Com: Enemy Unknown (the tatctical X-Com reboot, not the FPS), and Xenonauts are coming out this year. As is Borderlands 2.

Watched a few clips and part of an episode; current MLP isn't a little girls program, more of a generic children's cartoon. Lot of adult/pop culture references for those watching with their kids. Think most people still remember how MLP was geared/marketed in the 80's.

It Is weird how MLP has gotten.

I know Channers. I know Redditers. I know people who draw furry pr0n. I know Animu aficionados.

And you would never know. But MLP. It brings out the crowd. You know the crowd. The guy with a 5000 prescription glasses. The guy with a hair lip and giant colic. The guy who wears a fedora, wears sandals, in cargo pants and a screen print tee. The guy with a shaved head, and wears black and the 1000 yard stare. The hyper aggressive ex-military guy you is letting you know, watching MLP doesn't make you gay. The guy who runs D&D and always has 12 year old girl slaves as an important plot point.

I think it's interesting that the guys who get all butthurt about bronies say "OMG THEY'RE GROWN MEN WATCHING A SHOW FOR LITTLE GIRLS!!oneone!!11!!" rather than "OMG THEY'RE GROWN MEN WATCHING A SHOW FOR LITTLE KIDS!" Somehow I get the impression that they'd have less of a problem if it was about the new Transformers cartoon or GI Joe or something else that's aimed primarily at boys.

2012-05-27 02:31:33 PM
While the target audience may be little girls, there's definitely some adult references in some episodes. Trainspotting and The Big Lebowski came to mind. I kinda compare it to Shrek, humor that adults get but kids won't understand.

Also, Applejack is Paula Deen.

I don't think Rarity is supposed to be rich and she isn't really snooty (her role is actually the element of generosity). She is however a drama queen, somewhat vain and a germaphobe. Diamond Tiara is the rich snob of the show.
