Let's save the compliments to TKat for when the idol makes Johnson wipe out in a few hours.

Or is there a racer with the same initials?

WhyteRaven74: Lt. Cheese Weasel: Kaanan got smoked on that last restart.....too bad. Being first is bad, who knew?

He dominated the restart before that from first.

Wasn't he 4th on that one? Oh well, would like to see him get one eventually. Sato almost pulled it off. 2 maybe 3" off that line and he has the grip, he had the momentum. Very good racing all in all.

And Barichello finishes 11th, not bad. Be interesting to see how he does in two weeks.

If Franchitti goes down a little lower, Sato is behind him heading to the back straight, where Sato was passing people all day. If Franchitti goes a bit higher Sato zooms by and Franchitti probably can get him coming off the last turn. Then again Sato got up behind Franchitti real quick, so who knows if Franchitti could get past.

She had a Legge up on the competition.

Seriously, it just shows the weirdness of the Indy 500. She's had her car fail her almost every race this season, and winds up finishing the race.

Of course, not having a hamster-powered engine anymore probably helped.

Unfortunately not. I have a date at the drive-in with the family. Triple feature and a 9-year-old son who loves going.

Sato's butthurt. I do think that Franchitti did chop down a bit on him, he didn't have any room and was well below the line.

IndyCar does have a push to pass button, increases the turbo boost. But guess what? On a superspeedway? Not going to do much good. Especially when you're using the draft to get up on someone and get by.

Cars were running through the first turn two wide before then, so it can work out. I'm wondering if it was just a matter of Sato's car set up working best on the low line and not wanting to check up so he just went for it figuring Dario would give him the space.

Push to Pass button does not exist on the new cars. Might come back in the future, though I actually expect not, because, as today's race showed, the new cars might not NEED it.

WhoIsWillo: The push to pass doesn't exist any more

It does, but on a track like Indy it's not particularly useful. Push to pass is great for a road or street circuit, less so on an oval, and even more less so on a superspeedway.

Indy cars had push to pass in the past and were supposed to have it this year. In fact I missed where they had scrapped it so I thought they had it. But at any rate on a superspeedway, be a bit dicey.

33 cars in the field, and the one driver I didn't want to see win, won. Oh well, it was still a great race, and when Indy deems a driver worthy, I don't question its motives. As long as Franchitti doesn't get 4, I can handle him having 3.

There is talk of bringing push to pass back to Indycar. They just want to let all the engine manufacturers get a hold of things first.

If you want to see what awesome management of P2P at an oval looks like, watch last year's finish at Kentucky.

Fun fact: Indycar has decided to start posting full races to Youtube a few days after they happen. So if you missed this race or want to watch it again later, you can do so.

/Are you paying attention, NASCAR, F1?

That'll never happen.

F1 won't even let broadcasters run their own cameras - F1 selects the footage. I don't see Bernie Ecclestone posting F1's poltical crookedness on YouTube.

And NASCAR's races are, I believe, owned by the broadcasters. Do you really think Fox or ESPN would put that stuff free on the web? "Bu-bu-but REVENUE!!"

Good race, but driver idiocy and ending under yellow ruined it for me. Never thought I'd say this, but these days I like the GWC.

And this is going to sound like I'm spewing Haterade, but the series bigshots can't be all too excited that the guy dominating their series and its biggest event is perhaps even better-known among casual moto fans for flaming out of Cup in spectacular fashion and banging the cute Judd sister. Past that, their second-most-well-known name is noted for nepotism over skills and their real attraction of the past 7-8 years is currently a rolling chicane in Nationwide (and was never that good in the first place). Indy needs new names and personalities to step up and start winning the 500 and the series in a huge hurry. The series is actually better now than at any point in the past decade, but the names in headlines may very well be holding them back a bit.

That 'rolling chicane' started 3rd and finished 13th yesterday. Nice try.

And this was Dario's first win of the season; Will Power was on a 3 race winning streak. Franchitti's dominating squat right now; he just ended up with a good car at the right time.

And Helio Castoneves won the season opener. When was the last time you followed IRL, anyway?

Oh, and regardless of whether or not that had been NASCAR or IRL, the finish would have been the same; NASCAR does not restart the race if a wreck occurs after the white flag drops.

Like most moto fans, I watch the 500 and read an article about the series winner at the end of the year. And that's my point: when the guy winning championships and the series jewel was a total disaster in a more popular series, it makes it that much harder for casual fans to pay attention. Hence the need for new names. Bad for sponsor business is all I'm saying. If a baseball player goes and pitches like utter shiat for the yankess for a few years and then goes to the Royals and starts pitching like a star again, it doesn't mean fans of the AL East will pay attention to him. To the contrary, it only makes it easier for them to laugh at the competition. that's why Franchitti's success is arguably problematic at this time. Makes it really hard for the series to attract new big-time sponsors and fans when he flamed out so spectacularly in a series that gathers more eyeballs.

"Hop on board with us, we're going to plaster your logo all over marhcandise with that guy who's famous for flaming out in Cup and being married to that actress that can no longer find movie work! And that famous racecar driver's non-winning grandkid, too!" Sorry, that's just not an attractive pitch to Fortune 500 CEOs. That Hinch kid has potential, though. So too, did Graham Rahal, but that ship has sailed. They need new blood with large personalities to start winning the 500 real soon, the series is finally ready to gain some popularity if it happens.

She's got perhaps the best car in the field and finished 13th on an easy track to run smooth on. Hoo. Fu*king. Ray.
