Doesn't cougar mean dating someone atleast half your age or younger. That would suggest that she would be dating an 8 yr old boy. That would not be cool.

"Can a 16-Year-Old Girl Be a Cougar?"

No.

/And the chain of headlines formatted as questions having a negative answer is unbroken.

This is usually ok. If gives Grams that much more free time to provide free baby sitting services.

My dad made a obnoxious deal about it when I went to senior prom with a junior boy, saying that such a thing would never have been acceptable when he was in high school, the senior boys would have given my date hell, etc, etc.

It's memorial day weekend; the interns are clearly running the show.

/I dated an older girl when I was 14. She lived in Canada, you wouldn't know her. She just looked like the girl from all those picture frames at Target; no relation.

I'm a high school teacher. I see this all the time. I think older girls date younger guys because the guys their own age are such jerks. And, the younger guys don't expect them to put out.

When I was 18, I had a 16-year-old boyfriend. OMG, he was hot too. *GASP*

Well at least you don't need to use a condom for a few months.

Well aren't you nice for doing that favor for her. Did she pay for everything too? Did you agree to dance with her at least 5 times? Did she pay you to go to her prom?

Yes, No, No.

lol. I like your style.

On a related note, I watched a 37 year old flirt with, and discuss the virginity of, a 17 year old boy today. But if you reverse that and she'd seen a man have the exact same conversation with a girl that age she'd have been screaming how disgusting it was.

[insert twilight moms picture]

Ding!

Honestly, from a biological standpoint, 37.

Generation_D: ChaoticCoyote: My wife is a beautiful 58.

I am 50. (I'll make no comment on my beauty)

We celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary with 3 daughters this weekend.

Married at 20 to a 28? Worked for me. You mileage may vary.

And my lovely bride of 12 years met me when she was 18 and I was 37. Viva le differance.

So many opportunities to respond. Judging, reflecting on the likely psychological pathologies of an 18 year old and 37 year old who get involved...

I mean, good for you and all that, but that age difference is significant. I'm not even 30 yet and find that I have no business with or interest in a relationship with anyone that young.

I french-kissed a French-Canadian girl at camp when I was 8. Still have visions about that wonderful time. There were many tears when she went home. Marie. F*ck. If only we had cell phones and Facebook back then. (She was a great kisser, even in retrospect.) Meh... You wouldn't know her.

When I was young and full of testosterone 70s, 80s ... the surest way to find a bed partner was a baggie of peruvian marching orders.

Today you young bahstahds apparently have to swat them away like ravenous flies.

The envy, it overwhelms me

FTFA: Conlin's piece, about high school girls going to prom with younger guys, is sweet...until we get that word.

"That" word appears at the end of the every first sentence of the piece in question. Doesn't leave much room for establishing sweetness.

My 16 year old son went to prom with a hot, and much more experienced, 18 year old... so I'm getting a kick, etc etc. Sadly I've learned to expect few insights from the Times' attempts at social analysis. Wish they'd stick to hard news, which they used to be so good at.

This is what I hate about op-ed journalism. You get a one-off incident, something that said stupid journalist considers to be abnormal (because they and their tiny group of friends didn't do it), they then go desperately scraping around for another 2 examples that are out there and bingo, you've got a "trend". You get the same thing with fashion and celeb. An actress wears a bouffant and they'll find 2 other celebs with a bouffant, and all of a sudden "bouffants are in this year".

My first girlfriend was in the year above me, and so was my best friend's. Sure, it was unusual (I never dated anyone older again), but its hardly against the laws of nature. I also remember a number of other school friends later dating older girls.

octopied: A Non Amos: 'Can a sixteen year old girl be a cougar?'
I say yes! I'm writing a fantasy story with 'polymorphs', people with the capacity to transform at will between a human form and an animal form (either a wolf or one of a selection of big cats, determined genetically).

So, animorphs revisted?

One of my students reads these books. Cheapest, dumbest looking stories I've seen in a long time. There's a reason human-into-animal books are just for kids or the erotica crowd: Those of us with five-fingered grasps on reality have outgrown the kid stuff and aren't depraved enough to need to read werewolf sex scenes to get off.

J. Frank Parnell: BarkingUnicorn: On the flip side, when I was looking for a date for my junior prom my buddy's mother suggested his younger sister - who was in 7th grade. Little Katie and I looked at each other and both turned beet red. I found a date in my own class.

I dated a girl once who had a 14 year old sister that was dating a guy in university, and the parents were fine with it. Would have dinner over there during holidays, when they were also present, and it was all as normal as could be.

That was about 15 years ago now, when the hysteria wasn't quite as established as it is now. Also worth noting the 14 year old in question was fairly intelligent, and her and the guy had a genuine connection.

No.

The guy is a creep and has something wrong with him if he was searching for a relationship with a 14 year old child.

The 14 year old was being used by the parents to get at the college dude's potential future earnings and social status.

At that age girls are -generally- more mature, so it makes more sense for younger girls to date older (at least a year or two older) guys. Doesn't make nearly as much sense the other way around. But a couple years isn't enough difference to make a huge deal over if both kids are sufficiently mature.

16 year-old girls date 18 year-old boys rather than 14 year-old ones because 14 year-old boys would fark anything with boobs. Have some standards, young ladies.

I'm not sure that statement applies only to 14 year-olds.

Maybe they just want to be farked by someone with whom they have no relationship or emotional attachment. There's nothing wrong with that.
