Compared to Chelsea Clinton, he's Edward R. Murrow.

Damn, I was expecting to find easily that his father and/or grandfather was a bigwig in news.

I'm no fan of legacies, but if you're going to compare these two, you should remember that Chelsea Clinton actually has connections and access to people in power, and a perspective that Russert's kid will never know.

Having survived Jenna Bush's first report which was on "woofs" I gave Chelsea's first puff piece high marks because she sounded less like a four year old. Edward R Murrow? No, but really, woofs.

He's better than everyone at FOX, combined.

Why does it matter who reads that day's left-wing talking points on air for NBC?

I liked his father. He's nothing like his father. He'll never achieve that same stature.

So, who the f*ck cares? We get it, you're bitter that 'lucky sperm' have it made. We get it. Have another drink. You'll be fine.

What's wrong with Chris Wallace? He's seems exactly like every other anchor type that has ever been on tv.

I didn't see Jenna's report, but I have no doubt it was as bad as you say. What is with NBC? Are they trading journalism jobs for access?

2012-05-26 07:42:56 PM
TV journos are pretty boy and girl whores. nothing they say is needed or useful. If you aren't getting your news by now from internet primary sources, you're an idiot or are 10 years out of date.

Actually it was a nice puff piece about wolves and if she was capable of pronouncing that word it would have been fine. As it stands to this day as soon as she appears on screen my wife and I both say "woof".

Oh and NBC, just like all the other TV media today, are whores who will do anything to get eyes on the screen. Well anything except actual journalism that is.

The accusation is that FOX is right-wing, and Wallace is their biatch.

That strikes me as highly obvious.

Wallace actually strays off the reservation from time to time, which usually leads to much hilarity from the guest.

"f I may, David, the question I have for you is: if the president feels so strongly about tax fairness, is he going to he contribute money to the Treasury and they have a special department just for this, to help with the deficit?"

In no way does that comment to David Axelrod track the right-wing talking points spewed by internet trolls.

Then again, there was his questioning of some Romney mouthpiece on his tax plan where he pointed out that the increase in taxes on people making less than 50k was MORE than offset by the reduction on taxes of people making over 250k.

I don't feel the need to defend Wallace in any way, but like I said before, he seems exactly like every other anchor type that has been on the news since I started watching the news. He's not a right winger. His pedigree would suggest that he is quite the lib. Pointing out hypocrisy in our elected officials is something that the news should do more often. Liberals that say "We should pay more in taxes" can actually pay more in taxes. No one is stopping them. The IRS will cash their checks.

Gawd, I miss his dad. I'm willing to watch the kid simply because his dad was so great. It would be the same if my favorite porn star died and her daughter tried to take up the profession. I'd fap out of respect. I'm loyal like that.

Except for the anchors of the lamestream media, who are shills and mouthpieces for the liberal elite, right?

I always thought his dad was kind of overrated. Maybe that's because I grew up watching BBC journalists actually grill pols, but he always seemed kind of fawning of people in power.

2012-05-26 08:56:09 PM
"Kind of"? He was famous for his fawning.

This just feels like a poorly written hit piece. Really, instead of attacking his journalistic quality, you're going to make the article about his upbringing, almost entirely, and throw in that he isn't impressive on TV?

It seems like he was a fairly solid Boston College kid who used his connections post grad to get a good job in the media. This is how the world works when you are born into a good family with good connections. You inherit some of your parents' base of wealth and power. Welcome to human civilization.

2012-05-26 08:58:57 PM
Pretty much the entire mainstream US media fell into line and helped beat the drums during the lead up to Bush's invasions, Russert among them. I lost all respect for them at that point.

It's still constructive discuss these cases in order to dismantle those "Myths of the Bootstrap" that are foisted upon us so often.

I'd prefer a system under which we are all tested for our future careers; that would theoretically stave off nepotism, but it also betrays my totalitarian sympathies.

Came to say this. British tabloid journalism is very different from respected institutions like the BBC. The_Gallant_Gallstone has clearly never seen Hardtalk. Our politicians wouldn't dare step foot in that studio. But nationalist types can't take any small amount of criticism of the greatest country on earth.

I guess his way of getting pols to admit to things was subtler and softer. Of course, Powell himself was remorseful by that point- I just wish Russert had asked those types of questions in 2003, but hardly anyone was.
