I think it's more of a "Well I can't just tell them that I like it and it looks cool so I gotta make up some pretentious sounding bullshiat to try and rationalize and excuse my choices because I've been socialized from a young age that my body is not actually mine to do with what I please."

your body, your choice. I don't have any ink because, on me, it'd just end up looking stupid. But I have friends who have varying levels of body art - from discreet up to 'in your face' levels and hey, that's great stuff. it works for them, and that's all that really matters.

You managed to make a tattoo thread into a partisan issue?

Can't wait to see what you do to the next tipping thread.

the thread started off with a bunch of 'tramp stamp' comments and slamming folks for their choice of expression. i'm just noticing that most of our thuggish and/or neanderthal comments seem to come from the same cluster of user names. kinda makes me wonder about the people behind the login.

While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control.

I don't care whether you have a tattoo or not, but if you do, don't make it out like you've overcome insurmountable odds to get it or have accomplished something remarkable by having it.

buckler: I believe it's the law in Portland, Oregon that all females must be tattooed.

I live in Cincinnati and TONS of girls here are tattooed. In fact if I were asked before seeing this article, I definitely would have guessed more girls than guys. Not just the barristas and lesbians, mind you -- all the perfectly normal- and athletic-looking university students have tattoos as well. And I mean on their wrists, chests, neck, etc. -- very visible. It's kind of strange, actually....

This sentiment is why I never understand these arguments. While I have no interest in tattoos myself, I don't see why some concern over the tats looking poorly when I'm an old, wrinkled, fat fark should matter.

Hell, if nothing else that'll just mean nasty chicks into tats would still fark me when I'm old, fat and otherwise disinteresting. God knows noone else will at that point.
