SOLIDLY DEMOCRATIC (186):

LEANING DEMOCRAT (61):

UP FOR GRABS (85):

Florida (29)

So if Obama holds the solidly and leaning (D), and picks up Fla, it's over. That's encouraging. He needs to flood the 5 leaning states and Fla with time and cash.

Basically.

The challenge is on Romney to covert either PA, or OH red. If he doesn't manage to do that, he's done for.

I should've worded it better.

Unless he takes PA or OH, he has no shot in winning. But even if he wins those states, he still needs to hold onto the ones that McCain held in '08.

Ohio Romney has a shot at getting, but Penn. hasn't voted for a Republican since 1988, that won't change now.

Polls before the conventions are very meaningful and will entirely predict the outcome in November.

2012-05-26 11:59:49 AM
The Huffington Post map also shows that Romney has a 'difficult road ahead'.

237 Strong Obama
47 Leans Obama
73 Tossup
11 Leans Romney
170 Strong Romney

Which means that Romney needs to win all the tossup states, and at least one 'leans Obama', which could happen with massive amounts of PAC spending, but is going to be difficult.

btw Does anyone think Arizona could be in play this time? McCain beat Obama 54-45 there, but must have had a massive advantage being a popular Arizona Senator. Just a 4% swing would make that state very close.

It'll be another decade or so before it turns purple.

With the past recent months where Arizona is about 3 idiot stories away from getting its own Fark tag, I doubt if it was a swing state this election. Seems its getting stupider there every day.

Yes, particularly as the Republicans are likely to have a well-organised convention producing a sound electoral platform, rather than having every herping-derping faction of Tea Baggers, PAULBOTS, and 'the Presidents a Ni-BONG' all screaming at the top of their lungs flinging poo at each other.

You would be surprised. They don't let the complete teabag racist types into the convention - it's all the rich, old-school Republicans. Don't get me wrong, they're very nasty and hateful, but more in the grandmotherly whispering "oh, did you know he's black" as opposed to screaming "KENYAN USURPER HALFBREED" when speaking about the president. Just like 2008, the convention will be a big bounce for the Republicans at least in the few weeks afterwards.

It's a bell curve centered around 100 as the mean, median, and mode. You remove groups with IQs above 100 and you move the mean and median downward. The point is that those states are smarter than the "average" and would actually hurt the national IQ if removed from the sample.

Shaggy_C: Just like 2008, the convention will be a big bounce for the Republicans at least in the few weeks afterwards.

The bounce in 2008 was caused by Sarah Palin as she looked and sounded great until she started getting 'gotcha' questions from Katie Couric. I doubt Romney is going to choose anyone that fires up the base and swing voters as much as she did at the 2008 convention.

They don't let the complete teabag racist types into the convention

I think the Republicans might have a hard time stopping them as they've really worked them up into a frothy racist lather. Before the Tea Baggers were organised by Fox News for the 2010 elections there really wasn't an organised openly racist wing of the Republican party, that expected to be seen and heard by the party leadership. That faction now exists and is already pissed off that the members of Congress elected in 2010 aren't holding up the TeaBagger ideal of farking up the country as fast as possible.

The TeaBaggers will want to be heard at the conference and they will be pissed if they think that they're being shut out by Romney + the RNC.

Oh......oh. I've just thought - will Palin be invited to speak? pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplea se

New Hampshire (4) - Romney has a vacation home in New Hampshire, which is next to Massachusetts, where Romney was governor. He won the 2012 primary big, but Obama peeled off this Bush state in 2008 and has worked hard to keep it. Vice President Joe Biden visited Friday. But the GOP is back in power in the Legislature, and freshman Sen. Kelly Ayotte is seen as asset for Romney.

Hahahaha. oh, wait. You're serious. Let me laugh even harder. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Something has to happen at the convention for there to be any effect on the polls. So what is it? Does Romney pick another "exciting" veep? Do the republicans roll out some sort of actual economic platform? Is there an inspiring keynote speaker, like Obama in '04, who tries to bring us together as americans? Do Ron Paul supporters start a riot?

Well, I'll give you decent odds on that last one.

I would say that there's a pretty good chance that there is a correlation between IQ and midlife salary; and, typically, the higher up the income chain you get the more likely you are to end up voting Republican (unless, of course, you start making big money at a young age, which is how you end up with the Democrat yuppies in the big cities). That being said, it doesn't surprise me that the lower income voter would tend to vote towards the left side of the aisle simply because they are voting in their own economic self-interest. They may be dumb but they're not dumb enough to vote for a Republican, in other words :) That's more the style of the middle and lower-middle class who think they're more intelligent than they are because at least they're better than "those" people on the socioeconomic rung below them.

All that has to happen is a dispelling of the "conventional wisdom" that the Republicans are evil, fire and brimstone gay-hating Christian bigots who coddle the big banks and Wall Street over the interests of the common man. Sure, they might be those things in all actuality, but when they get on stage and manage to look sane they'll pick up supporters. All they have to do is keep their base in check.

Well to be fair, the middle part of MS and AL is heavily democratic and referred to as the "Black Belt" because of it's large Black population.

So like it or not, race does play a factor in this.

Also, are you really going to assert that kids who can't read and write are just as smart as kids who can? That's ridiculous.

You should try and channel your outrage into a desire to learn. Getting mad because you're a fool will not grant you intelligence.
