fisker: iron_city_ap: Justin Bieber is a more powerful celebrity than Speilberg? More popular right now, I'll give her that, but more POWERFUL !? The same argument could be made for soo many on this list.

Yes, and the people that control Justin Bieber are 12 year-old girls. They are controlling everything. 12 year old girls.

Our economy doesn't know what to do with itself right now so we are yoking the strength out of our 12 year old female human beings.

Thank God that 12 girls aren't allowed to vote in the Presidential elections, or else Obama would have lost in 2008 to the Jonas Brothers.

Skrillex has made some of the most aurally reprehensible cacophonies I've ever heard in my life. Thanks, but I don't enjoy the sensation of thousands of tiny dicks trying to penetrate my eardrums. I'd rather listen to some music that takes actual farking musical talent, not something that can be made by pushing a bunch of buttons in Fruity Loops and Audacity.

Actually, they did listen to noise back in the day. It was called Metal Machine Music. The only difference between now and then is back then it was considered a farking joke / career suicide. Now it gets you $15 million.

Nope, I'm young enough to remember being a teenager, and I guarantee you I wouldn't have liked dubstep. At it's best, it makes for some decent background music that you barely pay attention to.

Ok. help me out here Farkers. In "Grandma's Boy" there was a guy named JP who was very anti-social and weird who wants to steal basically everything the main guy has. JP thinks he is a robot and at one point in the movie he is on a Segway in his apt chanting... My name...is Skrillex.... My NAME....is....skrillex

Is that really the name he used or was it something very similar?

I don't even know enough about Skrillex to comment on him.

2012-05-26 07:52:52 AM
You may not like it, but the guy's Youtube videos have views into the tens of millions. Kids are tuning in and buying his stuff, and there's a good bit of power that comes from that.

I'm 30, and I've liked dubstep for a couple years now. I even like some Skrillex.

I also like Graham Parker, Cults, The Vandals, Goatwhore, Waylon Jennings, The Naked and Famous, David Allan Coe, etc...

Some people are just fans of music, others are fans of a particular style or era.

I don't think he actually made a single sound present in that 'music'. More like took a stock reggae commercial song and raped a little kid while putting his hand over their mouth at random intervals.

2012-05-26 11:07:02 AM
I don't care much for most of it really. The first dubstep I heard was Existence VIP and it's still one of the few I like.

Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places though. As far as Skrillex I'm not a huge fan of most of his stuff.

So.......basically a Skrillex has the same level of talent any other person could have if given the time and a mixing board? There is no vocal talent required, no musical talent required, and no personality required?

What do you feed a Skrillex? Is it male or female? Does it vacation in warmer climates, or cooler? What holidays does a Skrillex celebrate? What are some of the do's and don'ts of Skrillex society? Should we let them breed with our women? So much to learn!!

When I think of dubstep I think of Burial. I'm not sure how Skrillex is considered the same genre. Dude loves himself some Aphex Twin and WaxTrax tho evidently.

There is talent required. Good sound design can be extremely complicated, which is why Deadmau5 hired guys to build Skrillex a sound library for his album and master it.

Skrillex is just like any other pop musician. The "artist" is a disposable piece of trash, but behind the scenes there's quite a lot of actual talent doing all the work.

Supposedly Skrillex dissed the guys who made him successful, so here's hoping he falls off.

Of course, if he really does have $15 million, which I seriously doubt, he could always hire a new crew.

Doesn't take a good one to spot a bad one. I guess he either wasn't a very good guitarist or he took the easy way out. Maybe both.

No, he was the lead singer in a screamo band. Screamo is a genre of music where whiny teens sing in a Cookie Monster voice about cutting themselves because their mom got them socks instead of an XBOX for Christmas

Ryker's Peninsula: Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: I can't tell if the nickname "Skrillex" sounds more like an infomercial product or a Decepticon.

I thought it was a rival to RedBox and Netflix.

Nothing will clean caked on grease like a good Skrillex pad.

I have to say I don't hate his music. It's not very talented or technical, but it has something that grabs you if you have the ears for it. Of course, I'd never buy anything of his... I was writing music that was similar but more ordered and less cacophonous when I was 16 years old. I think I may have missed the proper window for my music to take off... I should have published the stuff I wrote in the 1980s about four years ago. Oh well.

Dubstep is just Detroit Industrial without class, taste, melody, or harmony.

I can't view the stupid site but I did catch a glimpse, which has Jennifer Lopez at No. 1.

That's sick. I don't mean in the way the kids are using the word. I mean diseased.

America, you are sick unto death. Should I send flowers or make a donation to the Cancer Society?

Oh, by the way, did you see that movie that Bobcat Goldthwait directed about the middle-aged guy who goes around shooting annoying people with a sociopathic teen girl as his sidekick? It's derivative at best, but it might be a companion piece to Idiocracy. I don't know yet. Probably not a trend to be encouraged, seeing as everybody is somebody else's a-hole, even the innnocent victims.

If Skrillex had anything to do with the visual direction on the example video, I will absolutely give credit to the talent displayed. Very well done video, creepy kid and over all interesting concept. The music itself, I am sorry, I have to disagree. It did nothing for me. It was a jumble of noise. But I do concede that this generation of music is not mine, I had my heyday and it was good while it lasted. I just don't think DJ-as-a-musician qualifies the same as say, Bono or Eric Clapton.

Oh, no! The Skrillexes are attacking! Raise the dome! Staff* the laser cannon! Put the Starfighters on high alert!

Was I close? (giggles)

*Formerly, "man" the laser cannon, but since half of the humans are women and half of the troops are not human at all, they had to find a new verb.

Well, all Mozart or Vivaldi ever did was string a few notes in a row on different instraments to make some dumb songs. If you can't see that Skrillrex is doing the same thing, then you're just a tool of the MAN!

THIS x1000!!!
Ronald Jenkees kicks Skrillex's ass in the "musical talent" department any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Saying that someone is more talented than Skrillex is like saying that you know a guy who can beat Super Mario brothers faster than some Chinese dude in eastern Asia.

You can't.

It's not true and you are lying.

==================================

You can deny it and call me a liar all you want, but that will never, ever change the FACT that in my opinion I am correct and you are an idiot for not agreeing with me.

The list of transcendent artists w/o Grammies is very impressive. In terms of "worth,"

Oscar
Tony
Emmy
Golden Globe
SAG Award
Screenwriter's Guild Award
Razzie
Webby
Cable Ace Award
Kid's Choice Award
Grammy

Looks about right, but I'd put the Webby Awards further down the list. If you have to fork over cash to get a "nomination," it's about as meaningful as buying yourself a trophy. Similarly, I'd bet that Grammys are awarded on how much the artist made for the record industry that year.

Jennifer Lopez #1? She'd never be the top-billed star in a major movie, her music isn't that successful, American Idol may have the highest ratings but replace her and it still would have been first, outside of the Latin specific awards, I don't think she's won many. I guess Forbes has a special ranking system developed by top scientists.
