It hurts like hell, and there's not a lot they can do besides putting on a butterfly brace.
Broke mine in a crash, sat on the couch for a week (yay, vicodin!) and then a week later rode the Alamo Challenge from Houston to San Antonio wearing a brace. If I would have crashed, it would have been a quick trip to the ER....again.
Oh, to be young and stupid again, instead of old and stupid.

TFL: The 40-year-old Texan opened up a large lead in the bike race, beating the field by more than 10 minutes.

Never saw that coming.

Apparently having the VO2 max of a large horse and a heart rate of 35bpm makes him good at other endurance sports too.

What part of that video makes him a jerk? I don't disagree that he's not the friendliest guy on the planet, but all he did was finish his race (while waving to the crowd) and then walked away. The other racer in the video comes off looking like a douche.

I highly doubt he'll win it, but he's doing well for a 40 yr old just now going back to Triathlon. Yes, it's another endurance sport, but it's obviously a different discipline than cycling alone and to be competitive at the highest level is impressive.

First he has to qualify though and that's by no means a sure thing. Only his top 3 half Ironman scores count. Full Ironman scores count more but he's only got one of those on his schedule prior to Kona. That may be a huge mistake. The top 50 qualify. Armstrong is currently 54th. As you can see what's really missing are the full ironman points. Many of the top 50 guys have 2 or more full ones in.

I'm not sure he got any useful points from his win. I think it was only a 500 point race. He got 1200 for finishing runner up in Panama as that was a 1500 point race.

Huh, I didn't know he was that far down the rankings, I just heard that he had been doing well in his 70.3 races.

Yep. He's been doing very well but he's just not participating in the full ironmans he needs for the points. If he's not careful he'll just end up qualifying for the 70.3 championship and not the full Ironman Kona.

Meh . . . Broke my collar bone, both sides, mashed the end and separated it. That's a whole nuther kind of pain. In the same wreck, 3 busted ribs, one big scab of a face, concussion (migraines to this day). Oh, did I mention in a coma for three days. Little Yamaha's and 62 Chevys don't mix.

She went down as soon as she hit the track for left wheels. That's always been a slick spot on every road. Road crud is a biatch.
