Hmmm. Real or? Maybe time for a submission to Mythbusters.

Video is better if you pretend the 747 is gleefully yelling"Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" the whole time.

Also, can't they trim them down so wind will basically pin the planes down?

First Southern Air flight to take off on time.

I imagined a little kid in the pilots seat, pulling on the yoke going "Vroooom!"
Looks like someone forgot the parking brake on that thing... what a drag.

I wonder if that would still happen when weighed down by 350 fat-ass Americans and all their shiat.

It's the lil' brudder of airplanes.

Engines have been removed, interior has probably been scrapped. It's not actually lifting, just playing see-saw on the rear landing gear. With skewed weight distribution front-to-back that I don't imagine it'd be that difficult.

Now rewatch it imagining a text crawl explaining that it's an aircraft boneyard for planes destined to never fly again, with a sad instrumental playing that segues into a slow version of "I Believe I Can Fly"

I don't doubt that this is possible, given the right circumstances, but why aren't the other aircraft in the shot also effected in some way by the wind. I don't expect them to be lifting too, but why aren't they leaning or shuddering with the gusts?

Poor thing is trying to get in the air one last time. Would have been good with "I believe I can fly" playing in the background.

You can see some shuddering in a scrap fuselage in the back and to the left. The other planes probably still had their engines, you can't tell in the shot.

The one other plane you can see much of is at an angle to the wind while the 747 going up and down looks to be facing directly into the wind. Even an empty stripped down 747 isn't going to move much if the wind is hitting it an angle. But a headwind going fully over both wings? That'll cause some fun.

That wasn't 0 knots by a long shot, probably more like 50 or 60. And you can unstick and rotate a lot of planes well below VR, they just won't fly very well (or at all - mostly they'll just drag along on the tailskid while directional control is marginalized).

In this case the CG was aft enough (largely due to lack of engines, fuel, and who knows what other components) and there was enough lift in front of the CG (flaps and slats were well extended) and enough tail-down force from the horizontal stab to get it to rotate.

Years ago at OIA, a plane was turned nearly 180 degrees from its original position by a storm with 70+MPH winds. It made the news because it was kind of funny.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that anthropomorphized that 747 and kinda felt sorry for it.

I have that record. Haven't played it since I was a kid, but I don't think so. I hadn't realized until I posted that this wasn't the version I know, which was done by the Irish Rovers.
