It's just a little wind, golfing weather. Wimps.

She goes white bridal gown and he wears jeans?

Yeah, you're in Kansas, but you can still "be country" and wear a big belt buckle and cowboy hat with a suit too. he looks like a regular guest taking a photo with the bride...except for the whole kissing thing.

So this is a new thing now. Getting married as disaster happens and the world goes to shiat around you? I had a green link about a couple married as their resort burned in flames behind them (w/pics). I expect next we'll see a wedding video of vows taken during an earthquake... a walk down the aisle during a flood...

Barrel racers aren't known for their ability to throw a rope or tie a piggin' string, but most of them can do it in a pinch.

Having known more than one cowgirl in my life, you can bet your bottom dollar that she stayed on for a full ride in both the first and second go 'rounds.

Remember the Chicago bride from last week whose wedding was "ruined" because people dared to protest the NATO summit?

Yeah, about that.

yeah but this couple was going to be outside watching the tornado anyway, this is just country multi-tasking

Eh, I think it's cool, them all wearing what they want. But you KNOW the bride was like "fark that redneck shiat, you're buying me a DRESS, Cowboy."

Also, if that kid doesn't look like he's one horse ride away from a Brokeback moment... I don't know who is....

Seriously, that little rope was an EF3?

I had a pair of friends get married while an EF2 tore through a strip mall and a couple neighborhoods about 5 miles away. Me and Mr. C were driving by said strip mall and I looked out my window and saw the telltale swirly clouds right before it touched down. Had to take quite the detour around the debris path to get to the reception, and one set of friends were stuck in their house, close to the path, and missed the creemony, barely making it to the reception.

/not Kansas

Meh. It's cultural. You wear a tie. He wears a turquoise shirt. Men in Kerala wear lungis.

Ugh. I'm no fashion guru, but a groom wearing Stetson & big belt buckle to the wedding? That's just tacky. or trashy.

2012-05-25 12:21:23 PM
As a native Kansan, I can tell you that this time of year, if you wait until there ISN'T a tornado somewhere within 10 miles of you, your wedding will never happen.

2012-05-25 12:22:51 PM
That is the absolute epitome of "heartland Americana" right there. The tornado was just a bonus, and the photographer made pretty good use of it as a backdrop.

I half expected the article to end with "And they purchased a marriage puppy (similar to a Love Fern) and named it Toto."

A bit torn on whether this is badass or poor judgment. At least subster didn't go with "It's like Tornadoes, on your wedding day" and the Ironic Tag.

It is not a position which allows him to jump off.

Eff the haters of the groom's denim and ginormous belt buckle as wedding attire - I think it's completely tacky as well, but you what? It's his choice. Who died and made you the fashion mavens?

They'll probably be separated in 6 moths. She'll shack up with an ex-con in trailer behind a giant honky-tonk. He'll take up with a wealthy wheat heiress from Wichita Proper. Eventually, he'll defeat the ex-con in a mechanical bull riding contest and these crazy kids will remember that they were meant to be together.

Fine, forgit it!

Im slightly disappointed I missed out on that wedding now. Only slightly though. Its a rather...odd situation, from what I know. Plus, I would have been laughing too hard to sit through the wedding. The jokes relating the natural disaster to their marriage would have been too obvious

This reminded me of when foreign correspondents are doing stories about inaccessible war-torn disaster areas or places in the middle of nowhere and the dateline is from the nearest city. Maybe they got to Kansas City and couldn't find a native guide to take them into the unpaved beyond.

the AP office is in KC MO, the newspaper running the story is NEWSOK, an Oklahoma based paper, but the story takes place outside a town in South-central Kansas
