For some reason my cats aren't afraid of thunderstorms. They like to sit in the window and watch. Don't tell them I said this but they share 1 brain cell between them, & I don't think they know they're supposed to be scared :-)

akimbotoo: Totally off subject, but the link does go to a cat related page on the website I found. This is a wonderfully bizarre website called "Regretsy" that I had heard about a week or so ago. It shows strange or different items which were for sale on Etsy. I don't know when I have laughed so hard in a very long time. Link

Of course the first things I looked at were under the "cats" category.

Ha! great site, thanks for sharing

You're welcome! I couldn't believe the bag of used cat litter. You could even have it gift wrapped!?!?!?!?!?

One of the pictures of a cat with a summer "lion cut" in the thread reminded me of an old friend, "Toby". I was a government contractor and when at a base in NC I stayed at a motel that had cabins instead of a normal hotel. The "Owner" was a long hair called Toby. It was understood that when I was there, Toby could usually be found in my cabin. I showed up one summer day and Toby was in his usual position on the check in counter - but instead of his usual "greeting guests" it was obvious he was in a foul mood because they had cut off all of his hair except for a ball at the end of the tail. i was fourth in line when I got in, Toby saw me and "yeowled", jumped the long distance into my arms (I had to drop my bags) and settled in to be held and comforted. The people around were in hysterics laughing when I was talking to him going "yes, they are awful parents, how anyone could do such a thing, etc....). I pulled out a catnip mouse that I had brought up for him, he grabbed it, put it in his mouth and went to sleep purring. The owner's daughter brought my bags to the cabin with me because poor Toby got very upset when I started to put him down. RIP old friend.

Once again I'm looking for donations to stop diabetes. I know many of you have had to deal with it with your furry babies and maybe in real life. I'm riding in the Tour de Cure next Caturday in Minneapolis.
If you are interested in riding, send me an email. If you are interested in donating to STOP DIABETES, here's a link: Link

Thanks.

And a picture of Chloe getting ready to ride:

Salem Witch: Poor Suzy had a terrible night. We had a pretty good thunder storm over here. The little girl was terrified. Her eyes were dialated, she was running around the house trying to get away from the noise. I ended up sitting in the bathroom with her with the door closed until it stopped.

We have a den set up for her under our dresser and she finally crawled in there for the night.

She is now curled up in her chair, snoring.

Poor little girl. Give her a reassuring hug for me.

My Uncle in law (92) wants to bring his obnoxious friend over for dinner with him. I do not want. She was rude to my kid the first time she was here, and keeps inviting herself to family stuff. She is just a neighbor to my Uncle. She acts like his second wife. And she wants to know private family stuff. Excuse me? None of her business. How am I going to do this without telling her to Fark Off?

Can you tell him she's not welcome and leave it to him? Or specify the events are "family only?"

Otherwise you can tell her "That's none of your business," when she asks personal questions, call her out on her rudeness and generally make her totally uncomfortable. Then tell her to fark off :)

Good luck on your ride. I really wish I could donate, but with two emergency cat surgeries and home projects (many of which will have to wait) I'm completely tapped out right now. :-(

A little over a month ago a dog walked out of the woods behind my niece's house.
She cleaned him up and took him for a drive to see if anyone was missing a dog.
There are only three house on her street and the rest is farms and woodland.
She then to took him to her vet to see if he was chipped. She called the local animal shelters and left a message of a found dog and put an add on craigslist.
She spoke to the animal enforcement officer and he told her since it was a weekend she could look after it until Monday and then take it to the shelter if she wanted. So over the weekend the family fell in love with the dog and that Monday she took him to the shelter and told them that when they put the dog up for adoption she wanted it. The following Friday the shelter called and told her she could have him and that they had given him all his shots and been neutered.
Flash forward two weeks and she gets a phone call from a guy claiming to be the dog's owner. She told him she would need proof of ownership like a picture of the dog or a really accurate description. He got angry and accused her of stealing the dog and he was calling the police. She then informed him that the animal shelter had neutered the dog. He went ballistic and threatened to sue because he had planned to breed the dog. The dog is a mutt not an AKC champion.
He showed up at her house last night with the Police to have her arrested for stealing his dog. Scared her kids and terrified the dog in question with his yelling and gesturing. She explained the situation to the Police and showed them the papers from the shelter. The Police turned to the guy and explained the legally the dog belonged to her now and if she chose to give it back it was up to her.
She gave him the dog mainly because she was terrified about what he would do
if she didn't. And now it looks like she will probably have to deal with him sueing her. And the poor dog will probably be abused judging by the guy's temper.
I guess the old saying is true
No good deed goes unpunished

Salem Witch: Have you looked into a "Thunder Shirt" for Suzy? They have a money back guarantee and are around $40. It's essentially a dog shirt that "hugs" her and helps her feel secure.

GGracie's daughter: Happy birthday to a fellow Gemini!

Sherpa18: Have you tried Melatonin? Supplemented with a Xanax? Best wishes for future sleepytimes :)

Lefftteffticle: Hey! Nice to see you and Minmin and Shiva and Muggsy and that guy with the hairy knees!

Q_J: Sooooooo, whatcha doin with all that choclit, hmmmmmmm?

That sucks - I trust she can counter-sue to get her lawyer's fees back?

My abandoned dog story (I am a cat person). I lived in the country once and while working on my car in the driveway a large black lab came up and said "hi". He was obviously thirsty, so I gave him water. That night I woke up and freaked out as I tripped over him going to the bathroom - he had clawed open a screen window and knew that he was his job to sleep at the foot of the bed. I found my cats and made sure they were OK. I called a friend who had recently had a dog die on him and he came out to see the dog. He fell in love and took him. A week later the dog had to be put down - he had cancer in one of the legs. Apparently some low life scum abandoned this wonderful creature due to lack of love during lack of love when they found out about the cancer.

Update on the baby/Pico story: I have a nephew as of 6:47 am this morning!! He is a big boy at 10lbs 7oz. No name yet but baby is doing well but mom is having a rough time. The not-so-lil' man decided to come out on the day I am supposed to leave so now we are scrambling to get things arranged to have my niece looked after. I have been here 2 full weeks and my other sister can't come up for 1 night despite being jealous about me being here. *sigh*

Poor Pico has been so good and quiet while we have been here but I still don't look forward to the trip.

step 1: pack belongings. check.
step 2: lug things down two flights of stairs into moving van. check.
step 3: drive five hours to get back "home". check.
step 4: find someone willing to cat sit my two monsters. temporary check.
step 5: find a storage unit for our belongings until we have place to live. check.
step 6: find a place to stay until we find a place to live. uhhhh, not so easy.

soooo, yeah. it took about twelve hours to pack the truck like a giant 3d tetris cube.
i105.photobucket.com
bringing things down from third floor really sucked. going back up to get more was even worse. my calves feel like knots of wood and i can't walk without limping. head cold just now easing up after a week and a half but now when i clear my nose and can breathe all i smell is baby poo. hubby and i managed to get the truck unpacked in under two hours and set up the storage unit like another big tetris puzzle. we had so many people say they would help us with the truck when we got here but when called upon they all had prior commitments. the bro-in-law was supposed to drive out to maine to help but instead rearranged his schedule so that he could go to new york with his barely legal girl on his days off. he then called as soon as we were returning the moving truck and said he could help. wtf.
we're house sitting this weekend for the friend who is cat sitting so we actually get to hang out with our cats to get them calm. funny story. one of the three guys who live here met the cats for the first night and jake ran around like a fur tornado and the rushed up to him and jumped claws first into his crotch, snagging some skin through the denim. his "Holy Fark!" was heard in the shower by another roomie.

having fun with photobucket's newish editing stuff. still not photoshop but close enough. it's kinda nice to not have to work. the three of us can hang out in our pjs as late as we want. usually one or the other of us is more dressed than the other or has to work. today we have no obligations except going back to the storage unit to find the quick fix foods like ramen and ravioli and soup. and as tired as we are right now i'm thinking of dragging hubby across the street to take a lil walk along the river by the falls since it's a gorgeous day out and i don't have to take any stairs to get things out to street level.
i105.photobucket.com
hubby took part of the carpet off the cat tree and wound some sisal around the post to replace it. the rope didn't even make it onto the post before the cats were into it.

I've been reading Caturday here for years but only recently signed up for a username on Fark. I've been a lurker, I guess. Wanted to introduce my cats, Beatrice and Benedick. Bea is the orange girl in this photo (if it worked). She has small cell lymphoma. We were told 3 months to 2 years (and to expect to be on the shorter end of that scale). That's 2.5 years ago. We've been happy to have her. They are 13 years old now.

Feel free to caption the photo. I'll try to post occasionally instead of always reading silently. I feel like I know all of you already from all of these years.

If I'm right in my guess, she looks like she's about 15-18" tall at the shoulder? I think they get about 50% bigger than that full grown. She should be about as big as a really poofy German shepherd.
