Does the court take Visa? Because I'll prepay and save on paperwork.

I like the angle of requiring them to pay for said opine.

Call me and ask?

Please forward some cash.

You use my opine for cash, so why shouldn't I be paid for it?

Phone harrassment, it's not a crime when a corporation does it.

This would work well on those scam credit-card calls I keep getting where they are obviously calling from a boiler room somewhere and try to scam people into believing they are calling from an actual credit card company in an attempt to steal people's identities. You use a nice loud boat horn in their ear and they aren't going to do a thing against you because what they are doing is illegal anyways and it would just get them in more trouble than it's worth. hahaha, ya i'm totally doing this!

The people are just there to work. They don't manually type in your number over and over and over again. Put on your big boy pants and put yourself on your states do not farking call list ya lazy bums.

No HERO tag? That woman rules

I'll take 6, if I can specify that they go to "Rachel from cardholder services".

Good on her. Both of my phones are on the do-not-call list, and I still get calls. Wonder if any jury would convict in the US if I were to do this...

Don't phones in Germany have volume-limiters?

Yeah, because companies that are illegally trolling for information are going to be concerned with following the do not call list.

Whistle? That's cute. I used an airhorn.

Get it, "hearing?" Nevermind...

I put the phone on my drumset & start playing.

2012-05-24 11:17:15 PM
So if I build a phone that lets me turn up the volume to levels where it can damage my hearing, I guess I can fine anyone who calls me? Actually, make that anyone *I* call, since after all it was the telemarketer who initiated the phone call.

The way I see it, the person on the other end should not be responsible for any damages. That person is merely sending data to the to other side. It is up to the receiver to decide how to handle that data, and whether or not to control for excess volume (for example, by using a volume cut-off threshold).

The lower frequencies wouldn't translate well over the phone line. You need something extremely loud and high-pitched to do the trick.

Because phones have unlimited amplification. The louder the input - the louder the input. Just like no phone ever made. Bullshiat.

Telemarketers need to pay their bills too. Blame the company they work for if you want to be pissed at them having your number.

And which of our U.S. states does this woman in Germany call so she can get on the DNC list?

How much SPL can a phone put out at a couple of cm, anyway?

The telemarketer is lying about the hearing loss. You could detonate a nuclear device next to a phone, and the signal is still just going to be clipped.

I want a button that sends 30,000 volts through the phone line. Wanted one of those ever since I worked in technical support. I promise I'll only use it for medicinal purposes. As in when somebody on the phone is giving me a migraine ;)

I'm not exagerating this story in any way:

I get home from a long day where my boss was riding me to finish off this row of lights and the ceiling wasn't playing along. I get home to try to make dinner and I get 3 calls in a row asking me to buy stuff or contribute money. On the 4th call a company called me saying they would fix my mortgage and I lost it on the girl. I don't own! I rent! I've asked that I be taken off of your list 5 times! How can I explain this clearer to you? I don't own my Home. I hung up.

Then the robo calls started every hour on the hour.

I loved and hated it. She trolled me proper but f'ing hell! I don't have a mortgage what do you want!

The whistling sound you hear will be the russian ambassadors phone melting.

Ummmm, wouldn't it make more sense for the victim in this case to sue the manufacturer of the telephone for making it with a speaker loud enough to cause hearing damage? She would make far more money and the manufacturer would probably never use a speaker in their telephones loud enough to damage the hearing of someone else from that point on.

She needs to learn to slow down and take it down a notch.

There are many ways to mess with telemarketers that don't involve being a total bastard to them.

I bet she has rage issues and I she might be a bit on the crazy side.

Also, note the fine goes to the court, not to the medical expenses of the call center woman.

Go go gadget government oversight!

I wouldn't fark with a telemarketer. They have your name, address and phone number. And nothing to lose b/c they're a telemarketer.

I just use the fart sound app on my phone.

Complete bullshiat, utterly impossible.

The cool thing about engineering is that an engineer can do a better job adjudicating legal cases than a judge can do at designing a telephone.

Call centers aren't like prank callers. Blowing a whistle isn't going to prevent another random drone from calling you again.

I had a woman do that to me once as well.
I own and run a self storage place. The woman was behind on her payments. I called to try to remind her she needed to pay something or I"m going to auction it off.
Since I own my own place, I can be very nice about things if people show me the respect to upholding their promises and at least throw me some money on their rent now and then. I don't want to sell their stuff.

But anyway, I introduced myself and next thing I know I get a loud sharp noise has she blew something into the phone. Luckily my cheap little phone speaker doesn't get very loud to begin with.

fark her at that point. She was way past the point I could legally claim her unit. So I did exactly that. And when she came in the next week trying to pay her bill and get her stuff back I was able to politely tell her to fark off.

At work, we created a voicemailbox that we use for telemarketers. It's got a recording that just sounds like a regular one...''You've reached Stacy at extension 328, sorry I can't answer your call...etc"

Someone calls for the 'Office Manager'? Sure thing, I'll transfer you to Stacy. The telemarketer leaves 'Stacy' a message and jots down her extension number 328.

When they call back to follow up, they dial her directly and we don't have to deal with them. The voicemail box is set to auto-delete any messages left.
