Ed Grubermann: buckler: I'm glad for this thread, because it allows me to point out that this woman is the worst ventriloquist I ever saw.

The evangelizing religious ventriloquists are always the worst. No talent at all.

They tend to suck at puppets in general. It's like they just don't care.

I like how Mrs. Bishop doesn't even warrant being listed by name while a piece of wood does.

Always found it interesting that some evangelist thought it would be a good idea to have a gimmick or "Shtick". I mean having a dummy side kick to help spread the word?

I was talking to my sister the other day and she told me about how she was recently watching the two sons of some family friends. One of them is about 14 years old, autistic, and into ventriloquism. She said the kid was quite good, but the way she described his act made it sound like a scene from a David Lynch film. His face remained expressionless, and for a few minutes he listed space and animal facts with a cadence as if they were jokes. There was no back and forth between him and the doll at all. He just stared ahead.

I wasn't expecting that and actually yelled "Judas Priest!" when it popped up. 0_o

What exactly is the deal with these creeper evangelist ventriloquists (ventrilevangelistoquists)? I see all the old album covers from the 60s-70s and never got the connection between Gawd and Jerry Mahoney.

For a brief period in 1969, Richard Carpenter and Joe Torre gave up their dreams of music and baseball stardom, and began living a secret life in Peoria with their adopted son, Timmy.

skinink: No thanks subby. I was young enough to have seen the commercial "Magic" which scared the crap out of me.. I wasn't old enough to be able to get in the theater to watch the film, though. Great film.

Same here. The parks service was running a "don't be a dummy" forest fire awareness ad constantly at that time. One day, I looked up from drawing because the ad sounded different and the dummy (unaware that it was an ad for "Magic") goes, "Magic is fun ... you're dead", and its eyes roll back in it's head.

Well, I missed the trailer, saw it on TV as a kid, maybe 8 or 9? Single most horrifying thing I ever saw. Until I saw the Shining, again at an inappropriately young age. Both still give me the shivers...
