spamdog: I really wonder what right wing pundit puts out all the Chris Matthews hate, because these guys are all GRRRR HRRRR STAMPA STAMPA over him.

He is, to them, the liberal boogie-man they so want every liberal to be. He is the epitome of everything they imagine to hate about people they claim to know, and hate, yet know nothing about. Quite simply: they need something to hate. Not much more to it than that.
Its just getting really sad now. It is becoming more and more obvious how much they hate themselves what with all the projection and vitriol which only serves to highlight their contempt for their fellow man. They want a war. They want a fight, by any means necessary, even if it means its with their fellow countrymen. To prove how much they "love" something.

If you farktards would quit trying to tell everyone what people with whom you disagree are thinking, you would sound MUCH less stupid, and might occasionally get within shouting distance of the point, as well.

I stand corrected. But even though he's worked for Democratic campaigns (and Carter) in the past, he was raised Republican, he considers himself a conservative, and he voted for Bush in 2000. He certainly doesn't agree with Republicans these days, though...

On television he's a partisan hack.

Matthews is even a worse Hack. He's a Ratings hack. He was totally pro-Clinton when he was up in the Polls and turned against him when he was down in the polls. He was totally pro-Bush when he was up in the polls, then turned against him when Dubya's popularity ratings plummeted.

He's only pro-Obama because his ratings are near the 50% range. If the polls turned against him, he would do a 180°. He'll be totally partisan when the Dems have a chance, then turn on them when they are down. Anything to keep his huge Irish mug on screen.

Why I like Rachel Maddow more. She's unabashedly Liberal. But she tries to put forth a clean, articulate case for what she believes. And openly invites Conservatives on her show to debate her.

I remember "Firing Line" on PBS Sunday Mornings, where William F. Buckley, one of the Fathers of Modern Conservatism, would host a show where he would regularly EVISCERATE Liberals who dared to come on his show.

"Thank you, Steve, for serving up that little soufflé you have been working on since last night sometime when your brain exploded with this idea that you were going to ask me about it."

Matthews is an ass and an arrogant prick, and that's the only thing that exchange and that quote shows. This is not an 'oh snap' or 'boom headshot' moment for Matthews. It's a 'I'm so blinded by my partisan rage that I can't understand the difference between an honest question asked and good faith and a personal attack" moment. It's an "I've nothing intelligent or respectful to say so I'm going to resort to undeserved ad hominem attacks" moment.

Matthews is so blinded by rage at the fact that "right wingers" have used that quote against him, he didn't even stop to realize that it wasn't being used against him in this case. He was simply being asked if he's still excited about the Obama presidency. That's all. He's attacks Steve Scully for no reason. Steve Scully is not a 'right winger' he's not a 'horse's ass' and, unlike Matthews, he's not a partisan hack. He's a senior producer on C-SPAN for goodness sake. He was president of the White House Correspondent's Association. He worked for both Joe Biden and Ted Kennedy. He's a man who has strong political opinions, but unlike Matthews, doesn't feel the need to let them taint every single thing he touches as a journalist. He's well respected and is the kind of person who should be a mainstream journalist in this country, but who is instead relegated to the backwaters of C-SPAN because partisan farkwads like Mattews can get better ratings passing off their opinions as news.

I'm not a matthews fan. I think he's kind of an ass a lot of the time. I have watched his how a few times over the years. My read is that he's a political history geek. Loves the stuff. hence the reason he has a show.

Having said that...
Am i the only 1 in 2008 who took his "thrill up the leg" comment as the thrill of a model rocket geek seeing a nasa launch or a stamp collector seeing that upside down airplane stamp? It wasn't a political comment as much as a comment on the historical significance of the event.

Maybe it's just me...*shrug*...and my books and stuff.

It's the right-wing Pavlovian response. Whenever they are presented with one of their mental triggers, they must respond.

Matthew = "thrill up my leg"
Ted Kennedy = drunk guy that killed Mary Kopechne

There's others, but I don't recall them this early in the morning.

Yes, I took it that way as well. As a political history geek, that would have been a pretty thrilling moment to be there watching that moment in person.

GeneralJim: It's nice to see he finally worked up a response for when he is chided for possibly the stupidest comment he ever made on television.

Fixed...but still, that "tingle" comment better get in line.

MATTHEWS: What do you make of the actual visual that people will see on TV and probably, as you know, as well as I, will remember a lot longer than words spoken tonight? And that's the president looking very much like a jet, you know, a high-flying jet star. A guy who is a jet pilot. Has been in the past when he was younger, obviously. What does that image mean to the American people, a guy who can actually get into a supersonic plane and actually fly in an unpressurized cabin like an actual jet pilot?

MATTHEWS: Do you think this role, and I want to talk politically [...], the president deserves everything he's doing tonight in terms of his leadership. He won the war. He was an effective commander. Everybody recognizes that, I believe, except a few critics. Do you think he is defining the office of the presidency, at least for this time, as basically that of commander in chief? That [...] if you're going to run against him, you'd better be ready to take [that] away from him.

MATTHEWS: Let me ask you, Bob Dornan, you were a congressman all those years. Here's a president who's really nonverbal. He's like Eisenhower. He looks great in a military uniform. He looks great in that cowboy costume he wears when he goes West. I remember him standing at that fence with Colin Powell. Was [that] the best picture in the 2000 campaign?

MATTHEWS: Ann Coulter, you're the first to speak tonight on the buzz. The president's performance tonight, redolent of the best of Reagan -- what do you think?

MATTHEWS: He looks for real. What is it about the commander in chief role, the hat that he does wear, that makes him -- I mean, he seems like -- he didn't fight in a war, but he looks like he does.

MATTHEWS: We're proud of our president. Americans love having a guy as president, a guy who has a little swagger, who's physical, who's not a complicated guy like [former President Bill] Clinton or even like [former Democratic presidential candidates Michael] Dukakis or [Walter] Mondale, all those guys, [George] McGovern. They want a guy who's president. Women like a guy who's president. Check it out. The women like this war. I think we like having a hero as our president. It's simple. We're not like the Brits. We don't want an indoor prime minister type, or the Danes or the Dutch or the Italians, or a [Russian Federation President Vladimir] Putin. Can you imagine Putin getting elected here? We want a guy as president.
