It's not that Germans can't have fun, it's that the world doesn't let them have fun. Burning Jews is probably out of the question, but I don't see why they can't sack Rome every now and again.

So lines on a map turn people into different species?

I guess a scientist (ironically, probably a German one) could posit that people from different parts of the world might have differing brain chemistry but I think it's probably more of a cultural thing.

So don't be constantly reachable. All these reachability devices can be easily disabled, or even discarded.

Yes, some people won't like it when you do that. fark them.

The article's point of view might have been skewed by being unable to perceive that GERMANS ARE HUGE FARKING WHINERS ABOUT EVERYTHING, their intellectual achievements and conscientiousness notwithstanding.

Just tossing this out there...it always helps to keep a sense of perspective with these things...

The way the article uses the term, it's more of a constitutional problem than a genetic problem. They're feeling they have to save Europe and are getting a martyr complex about it.

Of course, they also have cheap health care, almost free child care, and more than a month of vacation a year, so as an American I'm not sure if they know what real stress is.

That's just what they want outsiders to think... They're actually pretty damn fun to be around... Unless you're Russian, of course.

2012-05-24 04:56:52 PM
Can't say I blame them for feeling unhappy and pressured, really.

I mean, think about it. Times are tough, and your fellows around you are breaking under the strain left and right, but you're actually doing pretty well. That's not to say you haven't been there before: you have, and some really regrettable things happened before you got better. But you did get better, and you learned the lessons you needed to, and since then you've managed to shore up against things like this. You're pretty robust against the pressures you face, unlike your neighbors.

So they come looking for help. You're a nice guy, so you help out, and you start showing them how they might be able to avoid stuff like this. But instead of taking your advice, they round angrily on you, calling you judgmental and nosy and all sorts of other nasty names. They insist that you should shut up and give them money, and they'll decide how to handle their own affairs, thank you very much. And they do, and -predictably- in fairly short order they need help again.

After a few cycles of this, it starts to feel like you're being taken advantage of. Of course you're unhappy in situations like this; anyone would be. Why would it be any surprise that Germany is feeling the strain?

2012-05-24 04:59:01 PM
I was going to make a remark about "serves the Nazi bastards right" but I was thoroughly beaten to the punch. I hope the Austrians are even more unhappy.

Yeah I was going to post something like this, beat me to it.

They revived this act for the current "Made in Germany" tour, at least for the Europe and Canada parts of the tour.

Here's the current version (NSFW) Link

They are using a water-spraying face mask in America because they don't want to get arrested again. Stupid prudish Americans.

You're welcome! I do everything I can to promote my favorite band in the history of ever.

There are about four million links just to this song alone from every camera and camera phone at every concert around the world. There are also links to entire concerts, so tell your friend to hop on over and indulge. I do, daily. I could not go see them this year but I went last year for the LIFAD tour which was AWESOME!

Yes, it's a cultural thing that people from Africa tend to be black.

I am sure you have degrees in both sociology and antropology.

---

Btw. have you ever considered that lines, especially in Europe, weren't randomly drawn, but rather the consequence of different people living in those specific areas? Or moving to those specific areas if they were at the wrong side of a line that moved for whatever reason (usually war)?

I bet you haven't. People are born blond and with blue eyes in Scandinavia because of their culture. :D

Did you read the--nevermind, we're on Fark.

The article was using the "enjoyment gene" as a metaphor, not as the actual genetic composition of German people, but you keep on thinking you know what the fark is going on.

2012-05-24 05:53:42 PM
I'd like to point out that Hitler and the nazi party stemmed from Germany and they actually started a world war. It's highly likely they still want to kill Jews today and that is the most likely reason they cannot have fun. I'd hypothesize there is a genocide gene that is just an unfortunate result of evolution/natural selection. But evolution is just a theory that originated from Charles Darwin and not a fact. He wrote a book called Origin of Species that is available in most libraries if anyone wants to check it out for themselves.
