IIRC, Peter's character was originally the 'fat comic relief' of the show, and when Peter lost a lot of weight one off-season, it caused a minor problem.

Also, is Johnny Depp 12 years old in that promo?

Peter DeLuise is currently a very successful TV director in Vancouver. Stargate, The Haunting Hour, Andromeda, Jeremiah, Sanctuary. Pretty decent resume.

COPS and The Simpsons were always there to help them get through lean times.

I had it in my mind that The New Monkees were a FOX show. Maybe they just ran it locally in syndication before primetime.

/not that I watched it...or anything

They start until 1989 though. Without Married With Children the Simpsons may never have existed.

Yeah, why not? Remember when they started, they were merely showing national programming 2 (?) nights a week. Until 1989 when they added COPS and The Simpons on a 3rd night.

They grew slowly, and used an affiliate network of stations that already had a built-in audience for local shows/news/syndicated shows/etc.

You obviously never saw Werewolf. Was a good show, had a good lead in and follower, but the half hour premise for what should have been an hour long show, plus the fact that good horror television was a rarity until recently, really killed that show

If you don't remember it, then you probably didn't see it. There are only a few of us who not only remember the show, but actually liked it. The main villain was none other then The Rifleman himself, Chuck Conners, sporting what may be the evilest looking eyepatch

I remember watching The Tracy Ulman Show and then they started showing the Simpsons and Get a Life. Fox became my Sunday night TV destination. To this day hearing the Gracie Films jingle still reminds me of bedtime and dreading a new week of school.

if anyone could find them.

At least they future-proofed that promo by shooting it in 16x9. It'll never look dated.

Holly Robinson & Christina Applegate have both aged pretty well, in my completely meaningless opinion.

I remember having to be sneaky about watching Married With Children, because my mother thought it was a garbage show and not appropriate for a 7-year old.

Not like sexually inappropriate or anything, just trashy.

Strange enough I watched it with my family. Most of the adult jokes just went over my head for the most part. I think I had the coolest parents in that regard.

And all and all, I still turned out ok.

Your mother was right. It was trashy but if you sustained any lasting damage from watching it, it probably had more to do with having to be sneaky about watching it rather than anything on the show itself.

Of course- it had Yeardley Smith aka the voice of Lisa Simpson. Remember Woops? It was a post apocalyptic sitcom from the same era. Absolutely horrible.

My stepsisters, who lived with my dad and his godbothering wife, were not allowed to watch the Simpsons. I am so happy that I was raised by my mother and my awesome step dad. I make Simpsons references and my sisters are completely clueless. It's like growing up in the 70s and never having seen Star Wars. It's almost a social handicap.

Missed Sunday nights back in the late 80's while stationed at NAS Miramar. The chorus of "Married With Children" reverberating throughout the BEQ was classic.

It is a garbage show, but that was kind of the point. I was a prudish good little Catholic boy and I remember when I was like 8 I was watching it when I had nothing else to watch one afternoon, there was a punchline and I thought: "Why..they're talking about sex!" And I changed the channel.

So glad I got over religion. Really love that show now, and this was neat to see all the actors in their prime running around again.

Rickj: Beans Baxter

From imdb "Teenaged Beans Baxter's mailman father disappears one day and Beans discovers his dad was really a courier for a secret government agency. Soon Beans is drawn into espionage, becoming a secret agent for the government. Beans has many adventures while his mother remains completely oblivious. Beans' ultimate goal is to find his kidnapped father who is being held by enemy agents."

I thankfully had either managed to avoid it or just drank that particular memory away.
