Thorak: mitchcumstein1: I enjoyed Drive Angry, but that may have had more to do with Amber Heard.

Drive Angry is amazing, and should be in any list of his top 5.

But you have to watch it knowing that it's a tongue-in-cheek satire of the genre, rather than a serious movie.

I'm not sure that was the intent, but that's how it plays.

I didn't even occur to me that it was satirical-it just seemed worse than his typical turkeys. Even with this fresh perspective,it'll be difficult to sit through again.

The exchange between Cage and his boss during that scene is one of my favorites from any film I've ever seen.

Cage has made one good film in his career?

That's high praise.

/actually likes about 75% of his movies

"Alva, there is no one else in this entire office that I could possibly ask to share such a horrible job. You're the lowest on the totem pole here, Alva. The lowest. Do you realize that? Every other secretary here has been here longer than you, Alva. Every one. And even if there was someone here who was here even one day longer than you, I still wouldn't ask that person to partake in such a miserable job as long as you were around. That's right, Alva. It's a horrible, horrible job; sifting through old contract after old contract. I couldn't think of a more horrible job if I wanted to. And you have to do it! You have to or I'll fire you. You understand? Do you? Good. "

/could never figure if he really did rape Alva at the end of the movie

The_Six_Fingered_Man: Screw you all for not mentioning Snake Eyes.

The first fifteen minutes of that movie were awesome. Then you might as well shut it off and watch Blow Out or Phantom of the Paradise instead.

Crewmannumber6: I liked Family Man, and yes, I know I'm the only one.

Actually, me, too. I think we'd have to turn in our Man Cards, except Tea Leoni was in it.

That's why I liked it, anyway. Ahem.

from IMDb: "...The son of comparative literature professor August Coppola (a brother of director Francis Ford Coppola) and dancer/choreographer Joy Vogelsang, Cage changed his name early in his career to make his own reputation.."

in other words there was always someone who was aware NC was a Coppola every time he tried for a part. playing down the name made sense but it's still obvious from his quality of acting that the man wouldn't have made it were he born a Jones.

Snake Eyes and Mission to Mars. Two Brian De Palma movies that started awesome but had re-goddamn-diculous endings. I believe they were back to back.

And both starred the normally superb Gary Sinise, who tried to make the best of each, but ultimately failed to save either. :(

His role in "Kick-Ass" was enjoyable.

/still wish the Nick Cage Superman movie would've made it to production. Comedy gold was missed there.

Lord of War was an excellent movie and took on a lot of issues about....fark it, no one saw it. It was good though.

The most disappointing De Palma flick, IMHO, is Raising Cain. I was glad when that biatch died so Lithgow could get back to being awesome.

How about Boy In Blue?

I guess the point is that he's a Coppola and therefore he was given more undeserved chances than an American Indian applying to college and 4 or 5 of them worked.

Leaving Las Vegas was good imho.

Subby, "one of Nicolas Cage's best, most out-of-control performances" =/= "has made one good film"

I'm not fond of Cage but his ::ahem:: performance in Kiss was, as the article so perfectly stated, taking it all the way "up to 11."

KarlMaldensNose: Bloody William: The more Nic Cage loses his shiat in a movie, the more I love it. Ghost Rider 2 was awesome.

I think you might enjoy this then. Nic Cage Loses his shiat.

Wow. That was really stressful to watch.

don't understand: Fluorescent Testicle: Con Air is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Con Air is one of the greatest comedies ever made!

Every good movie Nic Cage has been in has been good in spite of him.

Nic Cage is a terrible actor, and it confounds me that he still gets work in Hollywood.

Nic Cage is the Nickelback of acting.

Honestly, Cage plays one of the best crazy guys in film... directors that know how to let him go nuts make awesome films.

Bad Lieutenant - 'Shoot him again! His soul's still dancing!'

Drive Angry - The best part of this movie was the contrast between Nick Cage and William Fichtner, who was solid gold in this.

/that's the way aha aha I like it aha aha...

Nicolas Cage, as been pointed out above, has been in plenty of decent to great movies. He's also been in a ton of terrible ones. I think Michael Caine said it best when asked about a particular horrible movie his was in (Jaws 4, I think):

"I haven't seen it, but I did see the house it bought for my mother and it was very beautiful," he says. "They said here's a million bucks for a week's work. It's fine."

Mugato: Refer to my Coppola comment.

Nepotism will only get you so far. He wouldn't still be making movies on a regular basis for 30 years unless people wanted to cast him.

And when you hire Nic Cage, you know what you're getting.

Vampire's Kiss was our first introduction to batshiat looney off the rails Nic Cage ... we couldn't believe what we were witnessing back then.

When he actually rapes Alma and pleads for (and gets) the stake driven through his heart it was gloriously at odds with his hilariously zany brand of misogyny and live cockroach eating.

We loved it.

Sure but nepotism got him pretty far. But that's Hollywood. See The Smiths.

Vampire's Kiss doesn't even make the top five.

This. Bad Lieutenant 2 is farking hilarious. He slowly gets more and more insane as the movie goes along. Cage at his Cageyist

Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, Matchstick Men. Your argument is invalid.

He was bloody fantastic in Matchstick Men. That movie doesn't get enough props.
