What a picture on Facebook could look like:

Who would steal a phone, unless it was for data or pictures or something that's in it? I couldn't get a dime for my 2 year old iPhone and they're traceable unless you rip out the battery, which anyone who would steal a phone probably isn't smart enough to do.

Williams, a former New York City prosecutor, said the description she gave police closely matches the man on the left, but she can't be absolutely certain. It happened so fast.

he uploaded his picture onto your facebook page with your stolen phone. You can be absolutely certain, dumbass.

These two geniuses probably saw the facebook app and thought they were posting to their own page.

You can get quite a bit for them actually. If they are in decent shape.

Really? I didn't really care so I guess I went to the wrong place but still, they're traceable, you have to wipe your prints off it, etc. Seems like a lot of trouble for a petty thief.

It's hard to look gangsta when you're balding.

BTW, take note. This is what kids in the city are wearing now. If you're wearing baggy pants hanging off of your ass then you probably live in the burbs... or the MIdwest.

I bought a 3GS this week for $250. Of course it was brand new and factory unlocked.

Not sure where you're getting your details from.. I still see it many times a day here in Brooklyn. They're still doing things like this.. I took this on the Q train a couple months ago for the lulz.

It's not really the worst thing they could have done, either--they haven't gotten caught because of it.

With this story and the saga of Nelson, the Disney Cruise Lines employee (if he hasn't already been severely fired), it's been a rough week for iPhone thieves.

The police are actively encouraging the street youth to wear their pants like this. They run so slowly in them that even the bloated doughnut jockey cops can chase them down before the cop succumbs to a coronary.

You're more right than you know. 10 years spent in DC public schools makes me certain that picture was taken in a DC school, so apparently they left school on their lunch break, stole a phone, but made sure to get back in time for math class. That's serious nerd cred right there.

Mugato: I couldn't get a dime for my 2 year old iPhone

I just got $135 for my 2 year old 3gs 16gig iPhone in almost-new condition. Would have got more from a Craigslist buyer but a friend of mine wanted it so I sold it to her for the price I paid for my new phone.

I just had this dumbass in court yesterday: he stole an iPhone off another kid on the subway. He takes the phone and starts using, logs into some social networking chat site app I've never heard of and starts broadcasting himself to his victim's friends, who are kind enough to screen capture the idiot. The idiot changes the nick to his own without changing the actual account, so now is streaming his nickname to his victim's friends. All of this goes to the cop, who google the nick and match it to twitter and facebook accounts, one of which lists his school. They go to the school, and the admins say yeah, that's X, he transferred out in January.

Cops run X through the juvenile court computer and find that he's in the system, and has a hearing coming up. They show up, and arrest him in juvenile court. The case he was in court for was a robbery. The moron brought the phone with him to court, still in the same distinctive case it was in when he took it.

Hey man, you brought the proceeds from a robbery to your case for a robbery, so I put a robbery in your robbery.

Weapons grade stupid.

I sold my my 3GS and my wife's 3GS on eBay for 165 each. The 4's (not 4S) that replaced them cost 100 each on an upgrade, so we actually came out 135 ahead.

But we had all the original packaging for the 3GSes, so I suspect that's where the high sales price came from.
