So in other words, they didn't want to release it to sink in the sea of The Avengers, Prometheus and The Dark Knight Rises, so the found an excuse to shelve it for a while.

This GI Joe movie at least looks watchable, unlike that first turd they turned out.

Kind of wish they would have done more with GI Joe Resolute series. Best thing to happen to the franchise in years. But at the rate they were going, they'd be out of main characters by the end of one full season. Half of them didn't even get screen time other than turning up as a corpse.

The movies it was originally going up against

Magic Mike
People Like Us
Madea's Witness Protection
Ted

It could've been number #1 and make millions easily

Except Spider Man would be released the week after and Ice Age 3 after that. It would make money only to be slaughtered weeks after. But because they need to 3D is pretty farking stupid.

/At least blame Battleship, Hasbro was banking all the chips on that

This sucks. I really was looking forward to seeing it. It looked so good. Now I will just have to see Take this Waltz, Magic Mike, and People like us. on June 29 At least I can look forward to Brave and Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter before and Spider Man afterwards. Whew...

A wise move. They saw the damage The Avengers did. They won't be able to compete with Batman, or an Alien.
At least they aren't blaming it on piracy.

I'd agree until they made a big production about remaking parts of it in 3D. If they wanted to avoid the Avengers, they could have kicked it to August. But you don't tamper with a film just because it can go against a blockbuster, you do that because nobody has faith in the film.

Also how dumb is the studio to only realize now they want 3D? A GI Joe movie would be prime territory for filming in 3D.

What more did you want from the first one? I watched it out of movie masochism expecting it to be awful, but it was better than expected. GI Joe fights Cobra, lotsa crazy shiat. They even said "Knowing is half the battle", twice!

I mirrored masked, or hooded Cobra Commander for one (the new movie seems to get that part correct). Not that mutant scuba mask thing they used. And a Baroness with a thick accent, real thick. That might have salvaged the first movie. Well that, and not having anyone with the last name Wayans anywhere near the set.

According to a Paramount executive, "We're going to do a conscientious 3D job because we've seen how it can better box office internationally. Jim Cameron did all of Titanic's 3D in post - and look how well that movie turned out."

Cameron and his people might just be a little bit better at it than your schmucks.

Most movies are converted in post with varying degrees of success. Avatar, Tron and a handful of others were actually filmed in 3d. And anything animated is rendered in 3D. Its a pretty big difference.

It wasn't 3-D'd in post production. It started out to be a 3-D film, with the option of being in 2-D.

And, fwiw, I enjoyed the hell out of The Rise of Cobra.

Nothing could really save the first movie.

The commander was all wrong. His motivation was ludicrous(People see nanites and turn to evil? They also brainwash their sisters on deeply flawed reasoning?)

The plot made no sense. I can't recall clearly but it had something to do with transport of nanites to the UN and then pulling off a theft attempt covertly in the least covert manner possible. If destro had any sense he just would have claimed his research would need a few more years before turning out a viable product. Then he could just set aside some product for sale later under the table.

Don't even get me started on that catsuit snake eyes was wearing.

What horrible reasons. They want to add 3-D to add to foreign box offices. Right...I'm sure a movie that centers on an American military force will be a much bigger hit because you add 3-D. Also, the line about how well the re-release of Titanic in 3-D sounded like a troll. I thought the re-release did horribly. I guess you can't really complain about raking in a couple extra million, but that is nothing in the movie industry.

Oh, and the Hunger Games lines. LOL. Just because a well made and popular movie does well in March does not mean everything will go well in March. Everyone already hates GI Joe because of the first movie, no one is really looking forward to this one, and everyone that was, now gets 9 months to forget about it. Good Job!

2012-05-23 11:19:47 PM

El Freak: A shiatty, half-assed action movie based on a shiatty, half-assed 80s cartoon. I can hardly wait.

Pretty much. I liked the early toys, with mostly realistic weapons, sometimes with altered names, but not too far fetched. The cartoons thew that all away, and had bloodless gun battles, apparently with laser rifles incapable of striking human flesh. Plus the people who do backflips over explosions, which seems to have been kept in these movies.. breaks the suspension of disbelief far more than any superhero movie that I've seen.

Considering the money they have spent on advertising, the advertising spots they will have to cancel with penalty, and the money to re-advertise next year ON TOP of nearly an extra year in post-production... this gamble is either going to reward an exec with a huge bonus or he will never work in the industry again.

/my money is on the latter
//a decision with this rational behind it sounds like it was made by someone who is dangerously unqualified for his position
