Somehow I don't imagine that the new fees will stop people from talking on their phones at inappropriate time, in inappropriate places.

goes back to talking on phone (and in someone's ear) loudly while standing in line at the grocery store

Fanning the fire before it even begins, huh chadstud?

Sprint sucks, this just confirms it. Now that I can take my number with me, Im switching. Anybody know if Verizon takes a Samsung i300 phone? They wont tell me yes or no, and I ain't switching unless I can.

2003-11-06 04:08:45 PM
On a more "on topic" note...I think half of my cell bill are fees

I agree Hack Patooey I'm dumping SprintPCS as soon as this law takes effect!

2003-11-06 04:10:02 PM
That's why I stick with my pre-paid phone. I never use it anyway, why should I pay so damn much?

2003-11-06 04:10:51 PM
More proof in my book that T-mobile is one of the better cellular providers.

2003-11-06 04:12:44 PM
Nextel sucks too... The only good cell I've used lately is Verizon.

But then again, they all suck.

But I do enjoy talking on my phone while driving, standing in line, in church (joke i'm not a x'tian, lol), etc. just to piss off the idiots who have a "your not driving a phone booth" sticker hanging in the car window.

Enjoy!

Have you ever woken up with a puncture wound in your thigh, and not been able to remember how you got it?

2003-11-06 04:14:19 PM
Keep in mind that even though now you have the ability to switch providers, you still might have to pay the fee to terminate your contract (sometimes many many monies).

Portability's cool, but you still don't have a free pass out of your account.

2003-11-06 04:14:22 PM
I think I should be able to charge Verizon for coming up with that "can you hear me now?" guy.

Lebowsky

No, but last night, in my sleep, with no memory of it, I completely disassembled my computer chair and left the parts all over the floor.

what. the. fark.

T-Mobile's coverage in my area (Milwaukee) sucks!

2003-11-06 04:15:16 PM
I haven't noticed that on my Verizon bill (yet)...but what pisses me off is the close to $10 I have to pay in taxes...city tax, state tax, federal tax, rape in the arse tax.

2003-11-06 04:15:19 PM
Can we level some extra charges on the phone bills of kids who spend all class long fiddling and changing their background? Or if it's at lunch their ringer?

The cell phone has become an extension of the arm for the middle-class white kid, and I don't see WTF is so damn awesome about them.

-turns off cell in protest

Smartypants

I spend all day at work fiddling with my cell phone.

How the fark does it affect you if people are changing their background, since you already said they're not using the ringer in class.

Find something better to whine about.

2003-11-06 04:17:12 PM
Could be worse...Florida charges fees and taxes on every little thing. Adds about $8 to my bill.

T-Mobile's coverage in my area (Milwaukee) sucks!

T-Mobile's coverage in every area sucks :(

2003-11-06 04:19:38 PM
I just did 2 weeks of research on this and have decided that Verizon Wireless is the best carrier for nation wide reception but that T-Mobile, if you live in Metro area, will be a much better value. Verizon uses digital as well as analog towers while T-Mobile is digital only. But be careful! If you buy a Verizon phone that doesn't have analog capability, you'll be stuck with digital only access that may not be suitable for your locale!

It's not the fiddling part that annoys me so much as the fact half of my friends for a reason I don't understand feel their life may end if they, heaven forbid, leave the thing in their car or in their dorm for an hour.

And you seem a little bitter there, it's ok.

2003-11-06 04:22:01 PM
I just checked my Sprint bill and there it is $1.10. This makes me so farking angry it isn't true. The only reason they were forced to include portability is so they couldn't screw consumers and to ensure that fair competition took place.

2003-11-06 04:22:35 PM
I used to have a cell phone. Then I realized it was tying me down to the desk even when I wasn't there - there was no real POINT to having one, and there still isn't. People got along fine for umpteen years of city living without cell phones, and people were a lot more polite then, too. Not like you farkers now adays, damn assholes, shut up, I'm trying to talk dirty with my gf over here, jerk.

2003-11-06 04:23:05 PM
please do us all a favor and don't get cingular.. as soon as I can, I'm getting the fark outta there

hahah i'm really not bitter. just annoyed because i want to go home. well... the bar. which is like home.

2003-11-06 04:23:43 PM
and yet people still hate verizon, calling them the devil

and they give me the most minutes, features and best coverage - and -dont- charge me for number portability.

but you post a pro-verizon note on /. - and those nazis slap you -1 Troll... i mean, wtf?

just cuz they're winning doesn't mean they -aren't- the best bet for most.

2003-11-06 04:23:51 PM
I supposedly pay $29.99 a month for my service. What I really end up paying is around $42. WTF? $12 worth of taxes and fees? That's not including the $1.50 they charge me to use their directory assistance service. I can call 411 and pay less than that.

2003-11-06 04:23:58 PM
Cancel your phone subscription.

I did. I'M FREE!

2003-11-06 04:24:50 PM
Sprint can blow me.

As a corporate customer who had an account with them for three years. I realized I was using fewer minutes (my original plan was for 500 minutes / month) and wanted to drop to a lower plan in the same category (200 minutes / month).

They told me I would have to sign up for a minimum of 1 year of service. (with a penalty for termination).

(switched to Verizon months ago, never happier)

2003-11-06 04:26:16 PM
What they need to do is attach a volume detector to all cell phones. Then, as soon as some moron's voice passes "1 foot voice" level and into levels that annoy passersby, the new "Moron Irritator Tax" should kick in. I'm thinking about $10 per 10 seconds of loud talking. Those who can't pay can have their bills negated by standing in line to be beaten about with a baseball bat for about an equivalent amount of time.

2003-11-06 04:26:26 PM
Switching to T-Mobile from AT&T was the best choice I've made in a long time. T-Mobile is a great value and I've had no trouble with reception since I got the thing. Way to go T-Mobile on not charging a portability fee! Woohoo!

2003-11-06 04:26:57 PM
This guy was taking a dump and talking at the top of his lungs. I wanted to shout out, "I'll need five more dollars for what you just asked for sir!"

I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I FARKING NEW IT!!!!! Oh and Cingular sucks too.

2003-11-06 04:27:25 PM
Oops forgot to include Sprint is my service(anal rape) provider. They're service has always been excellent (only a couple dropped call in 3 years) but the fees are rediculous.

2003-11-06 04:27:50 PM
I think I am the only person in Scandinavia over 9 years old who does not have a cell phone. And it'll stay that way.

2003-11-06 04:27:51 PM
The wound-in-the-thigh thing pisses me off because generally I am very careful about getting into situations I might regret the next morning.

Yet here I am with a crescent-shaped wound in my thigh. Did I antagonize a wood carver, or what? Fark if I know, but the fact is that sometime during the past 24 hours an edged instrument with a crescent-shaped design penetrated my thigh.

2003-11-06 04:28:33 PM
Also, there should be a Cell Phone Moron Tax on all asshats who ever have their phone set on anything but "vibrate". Every audible ring in public should cost thost shiatbrains $20. You let it ring 3 times, that's $60. Morons. No cell phone ever needs to be on anything but vibrate.

2003-11-06 04:28:45 PM
another vote for t mobile. they rock. and Catherine Zeta Jones is farking hot!

2003-11-06 04:29:35 PM
oh, and for the people who complain about the cell chaining them to their job...

fark em. if your employer wants to call you away from your desk, they need to pay for you to have that phone. (if they are paying for it, then you got no room to complain).

me, i keep the cell for convenience. you know - for the ability to call other people - not to -be- called. i turn the damn thing off at work ( i got a work phone ) and when i dont want to be bothered.

and i don't get the people who get all upset about cell phone users in restaurants. i mean, so long as they aren't letting their annoying ring go off all the time, what's the difference between them talking on the phone and them talking to their companions? i mean, it's rude to anyone else their with - but if you aren't in their party, who gives a fark?

Sprint PCS: Collects $1.10 a month for "Federal Wireless Number Pooling And Portability."

Um, could someone explain to me what this means? What exactly is "Wireless Number Pooling And Portability"?

2003-11-06 04:31:03 PM
We dont get number portability up here on our tin cans with string.

But if I were to flip over to another network I would take advantage of the 'testing' period that all networks are required to give you before the contract actually takes effect.

Here is a decent article which may help ex0plain the costs though.
http://www.amlnet.com/newsstory_details.asp?id=968&type=

Yea, I havent taken the time to hyperlink the text, too busy changing the label on my tin can.

2003-11-06 04:31:07 PM
Oh, and if you have one of those farking designer rings or stupid songs instead of a ringer, the audible ring fine doubles to $40 per ring. And anybody near you gets to punch you in the eye.

2003-11-06 04:31:56 PM
I hear ya absolutben.
I just bought a cell this summer. $39.99 = $50 and change.
Oh, and AT&T hasn't given me any problems in and around Chicago. (Signal came in 3 hours north to Fond du Lac, Wi, to boot!)
I was reading that some people might be able to reduce the "FEES" on their bills by not having itemized call list on your monthly statement. I forget which company was doing that, though.

2003-11-06 04:33:05 PM
Any word on what US Cellular charges for this? When I switched a month ago, I was told that I could not bring my Sprint number with me yet. If I get charged for this shiat, I will be very unhappy. Oh yeah, US Cellular has been great so far.

2003-11-06 04:33:12 PM
did this start already? somebody told me it starts Nov. 24th...

2003-11-06 04:34:14 PM
T-Mobile fees:

39.99 bill
04.29 taxes

Not bad, less than five bucks. I'm ok with that. Go T-Mobile!
