(Bitten and Bound)   For the first time in the history of Idol, a finalist wimped out. The 16-year-old is too young to know about self fulfilling prophesies but she'll find out tonight. #hescoresshebombs   (bittenandbound.com) divider line 38

I will be watching my Facebook news feed instead. I'm from the area that Phillip Phillips is from, so either way my news feed will go absolutely nuts around 9:55 PM.

Holy crap. I just read the article out of sheer boredom. If this garbage is at all important to you, please just sterilize yourself now.

The first time I've voted for an Idol contestant was last night. I went for PP. His last song was great. Don't know why he didn't do "Volcano" for his second song.

All this season I thought Jessica was the Chosen One. Judging from some of the comments from the judges last night, it looks to be Phillip.

Since I take it you're of the hipster variety Nous Teeveeicus, this year on Idol has actually been musically diverse and interesting. The usual suspects were voted off early and we were left with a folksy singer songwriter that would have never made it on Simon/Quincy Jones Idol, a girl who with a little practice will really be the next Beyonce/Houston/etc, and a gospel/soul singer who could bring back a little 60/70's soul.

Hell, they had a girl sing Hendrix (meh) and Zepplin (amazeballs) this year.

Phillips being on a TV show like this is pretty great, and the fact the viewers are so receptive of him hints at pop music becoming a lot more tollerable. I didn't like the Mumford & Sonsish last song, but once he's making records with Interscope(both finalists were told the first week Ivine was on TV that they would both be signed outside of this show regardless) I hope to hear more original stuff.

I don't watch this show anymore and haven't for a while. I *do* however read the articles about it on Grantland, because I think they're fascinating.

That said, for the past, what, at least 5 years, the winner of American Idol has been the "Non-Threatening Medicore Talent Guy who Tween Girls Would Most Want as Their Boyfriend," as opposed to (from what I can tell) the actual talented performer(s). Did you really figure that would change now?

The Grantland guys were calling this guy out as at least a finalist, if not the winner, for at least 3 months now...

Wait, a parent actually named their kid Phillip Phillps? WTF?

Terlis: Wait, a parent actually named their kid Phillip Phillps? WTF?

I swear to god once I was watching Jeopardy a long, long time ago and there was a contestant whose parents named their son "Ogie Ogleson" or something to that effect.

I only watch American Idol ironically. With the sound off. While playing the Decemberists through my vintage Sansui receiver.

One of the teachers at my high school was named Thomas Thomas. Since he was a math teacher, everyone just called him T2.

Everyone I know is rooting for Jessica whatever because she's from my home town.

My M-in-L convinced my wife to spend votes on the dude from GA. 50 fking votes, and each one needs a captcha filled in. And they have a note near the bottom saying something like 'You get 50 votes, aftward each additional vote does not count'. Really? people will not only fill in a GD capcha 50 times, but if they aren't paying attention, they could fill it in more because who ever set up that shiatty site couldn't figure out a counter?

WhyTF do ppl watch and vote for this shiat?

/My wife couldn't explain it, felt she was doing her mom a favor, I couldn't help but laugh at the futility of it all

Phil Phillips will probably win at this point. He's got that Jack Johnson thing going on and the girls (the primary voters) are all over it. However, I have never seen anyone so ambivalent about the competition. He hasn't shown that he cares one way or another the whole run. Just smiles and "aw shucks". This strategy has worked perfectly.

Jessica, who was so powerful during the earlier stages, has really shown her young age and weaknesses during these last few weeks.

2012-05-23 12:36:35 PM
Not been a fan of Jessica EVER: And it really showed her weakness when she had to sing a song she couldn't imitate the original of.

P2 is prolly going to take it, since AI seems to be a haven for White Guys With Guitars.

Simon's abscence is truly painfully obvious, and this show's death rattles are drowning out the singers: which, in past two years, is more of a blessing.

Like oh my God! this is the Best show EVAR!! that Phil Phillips is just plain dreamy and his voice??!! It makes me quiver just thinking about it. And Jessica....holy crap does she have a set of.....pipes! She really can sing so just stop it all you haters out there!! Oh and the judges rock, they are always giving the best advice and I truly feel like they are good friends to the contestants also. Their so special, I love to tune in just to see what rock god Steven will be wearing each week. Long live Idol!! Long live Idol!! Long live Idol!!

I gotta agree.

Lopez preached, "Everything has to be you, Jessica, so you can be you, which is really good."

Who the fark talks like this? Gah!

And..Phil has the Vote for the Worst crowd supporting him.

I don't watch, but just from girls on Facebook commenting on there, Philip has been popping up on my news feed since about the time the show itself premiered. I figured he would win when weeks later I continued to see girls laud his performances.

Phil Squared's last song sealed the deal. He stomped that girl's lights out, lol...I'll take the Mumford-lite guy over the robotic pageant girl any day of the week.

Phil Phillips sold out last night on that last number. A marching band? Really?!!?

That's not the rebel artist Phil Phillps America fell in love with.

Doesn't change the fact shows like this have ruined music.

I read the article and it made no sense at all so I agree with the original poster, sterilize yourselves if this passes as music or entertainment.

2012-05-23 03:08:05 PM
How are pop singing shows ruining music? What else should we watch? Aside from Baseball this is one of 4 shows I watch, I enjoy it and skip through the people I don't like.

I guess I'm the rare person who can listen to music and enjoy the good songs from any genre. If kids are growing up with this show and it makes them interested in music, cool. Even if it is mostly pop crap.

The thing is though, he didn't exactly do a better job, he was just lucky to get a song that was 5 times better than what the other contestant had to sing.

So when did you have your balls snipped? Cause that attitude can be applied to everything fark covers (with the exception of some stuff on the politics tab) and fark itself.

"This garbage" is important enough that you needed to comment on it.

Or how about you just STFU and GTFO. I don't go into the threads you follow and complain about all the guys dressed as gladiators.

I just came into this thread to announce that I hate anything that's popular. Because that's how cool I am. And by commenting, I am showing how little I care. I can hardly be bothered; I'm only posting because I'm soooo bored right now. Most things that interest other people are beneath me, actually. Also, I was a gifted child.
