Not entirely sure how traffic laws work in China, but I'm pretty sure here in America that kid had the right of way and all those vehicles (including two buses!) that almost ran him over deserve tickets.

Why did they blur the kid's face? They all look alike, don't they?

Cardboard box?

You were lucky. We played for three months with a brown paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six o'clock in the morning, clean the bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down mill for fourteen hours a day week in-week out. When we got home, out Dad would thrash us to sleep with his belt!

I would like to say that if I was driving down the road and came across a little kid riding a peddlebike in the middle of the street that I would stop and get him the fark out of the street. Not drive around him and continue on my way.

This is what happens when you live in a country with 1,800,000,000 racing toward 2,500,000,000 people. Humans become expendable, even little kids.

Do you have any idea how many Amber Alerts would go out if you stopped in the middle of the street in the US to put some kid in the back of your van?

Although he has ADD (Asian Driving Disease) around here the kid would now be in protective custody.

Kid is lucky to be alive. Local news here reported the kid traveled about 2 kilometers before he was picked up by the officer.

I don't see where anyone attempted to help, clip cuts straight to cop and grampa.

I guess if was a girl, the cop might of just let her ride a little more to "see what happens"

From a number of places I've gotten the impression that China is very "family oriented" - you are supposed to care for members of your family, and people that need help should be helped by their family. There is very little notion of helping strangers. If a fight occurs between two strangers it is generally regarded as entertainment, not something to be stopped.

China has advanced somewhat in that the State (e.g. police) is seen as tasked with helping strangers - which may enhance the notion that it is not an individual responsibility.

This attitude in part may come from a long history of repeated famines where survival of a peasant family depended on not helping outsiders.

China traffic rules are completely different than US traffic rules. We just watched Friday night traffic for hours the first night we were there in astonishment that no one COMPLETELY DIED A FIREY DEATH in the streets....but there is a different rhythm over there. It's really weird, but you get used to it. What I saw was a pedestrian crossing the street, and all the vehicles swerving around him. That's just how it's done.
