I almost bought a classic Alfa when I was looking for a new car, but since it was to be a daily driver I got an '06 Miata instead. I can't wait to see what this thing looks like and how much they want for it.

Considering the advance press for the new Mx-5 says it will drop about 200-300 lbs and stay at the same power level it should be a fun little roadster.

Alfa Romeos are generally good at one thing, and they do this better than any car on earth.

That one thing is looking absolutely beautiful while broken down in a cloud of steam on the shoulder.

I've always been impressed with the MX5/Miata's reviews in various trade publications - one of them said "It's like getting 90% of a BMW Z series for 30% of the price"

I love my Mazda 3, would have gotten an MX5 if it weren't so impractical for commuting.

As someone who has commuted in one for years now I can say unreservedly they are completely practical for commuting. They are, however, almost completely impractical for big shopping trips. Also my golf clubs only fit in the passenger seat.

Good to know, but I do like having the back seat. D&D books, bicycle parts, and softball equipment seem to clutter there easily.

The worst part is you can't tell until you've passed them, and by that time you've totally given them the wrong idea by staring as you go past.

That's part of the reason I got a two-seater... I can't throw clutter back there! As for the size, I just grab my fiance's little sedan when we need more space, or bum my dad's SUV when we need to haul stuff. Also, when going out with friends a two seater keeps you from ever having to chauffeur.

I've only driven a Alfa Romeo once. When I stopped at a stop sign, there was so much smoke that I thought it had caught fire. Called my BIL and he said, "That's normal when the oil gets low." He added that the car got about 75 miles per quart.

Win the lottery, then buy the Mazda version to drive every day, and the Alfa to take to the car shows on the weekend. Perhaps on a trailer pulled by the Mazda.

"Nothing bad can ever happen to a person who buys a French or Italian automobile... it already has."

"I once owned a Ferrari for 35 miles, then the engine seized because I had used "aggressive" shifting in the vehicle. I didn't know that "aggressive" meant going down to 2nd gear at only 13!" ~ Sterling Moss (166MM)

"Federation for Intentionally Assifying Transportation - F.I.A.T." (old SNL sketch)

"The Renault 'Le Car Crap' was the first time in History an advertising campaign attempted a "bandwagon" advertising campaign through mutual humiliation and shame." (Mine, use as needed whenever someone mentions the track version of the Le Car. Great in GT5, a legitimate sports car! (Still looks and smells like a Saucony shoebox circa 1985, though.)

"'Italian Performance' is a really nice way of saying, "You're going to get your ass handed to you by something that costs a fraction of your down payment." ~ Colin McRae

"For Ferrari so loved the World, they canceled the 1964 FIA-GT-WC because they'd rather the title stay in generous and kind Italian hands that would cherish and preserve it, rather than hand it over to the best car which soundly thrashed them. Outside of their class, no less." ~ Bob Lutz on why Dodge needed to produce the GTS-ACR Viper for GT2.

"Because Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, FIAT and DeTomaso won't do it!" ~ Carroll Shelby on the GT-1KR in 2011... and why he built a naturally aspirated 1000 horsepower muscle car... and there's a 1500+ horsepower DSC version coming in 2013... and HKS (in Japan) is building NHRJ/NHRA-sanctioned 2000+ 35psi twin-turbo monstrosities for modified.

/Let it be said: the F40 ($300,000) and F50 ($550,000) and F60Enzo ($dontevenaskyoucantaffordit) are jaw-droppingly awesome vehicles. Sadly, they are also inferior and easily slaughtered against either a GT2-equipped Shelby Mustang SVT-Saleen-S3C Cobra R2 ($125,000 - and FR) or a Nismo-tuned Nissan GT-R (AWD and $131,000)

I could go on a while with that, but it's sort of immaterial. Personal taste and all. It just causes me cognitive dissonance that I hate Ferrari so much, and still my eyes are drawn to them when I see them. Some of them anyway.

I'd love to own a Ferrari Testa Rossa, Testarossa, F40, etc just so that I could occasionally drive it around a track, then immediately place it back on a trailer and deliver it to my mechanic

They designed a car just for you. I think it's the FXX or something. You pay them a million, then they keep the car. They will meet you at the track so you can drive "your" car. And when you're done, they take it back to Marinello for you!

I've thought about trying to pick up a Ferrari- ones like the 328 GTS, Mondial, and 348 aren't all that horribly expensive, all things considered. Then I looked at what maintenance tends to cost on the things and those dreams disappear in a real hurry.

Pic was trying to prove a point. I wouldn't want to mislead.
Mine's a 2000 GT with staggered black bullits (9" upfront 10.5" in back), triple black, Mach 1 grill delete, '03 Cobra hood and front bumper, Eibach ProKit drop springs, Magnaflow catback. Mostly cosmetic and sound improvements. Nothing special, but it looks good, sounds good, and is paid for. Plus it makes the shortest, most boring errands waaayyy more fun.

So get a De Tomaso Pantera Italian body, ford engine

I wonder if you could shoehorn a chevy engine into a ferrari

If I did this would I need witness protection?
