two words...

Who cares?
2003-11-06 04:33:29 PM
assclown = farkers who actually are surprised to learn that David Blaine doesn't *really* levitate!!!

Jeebus! Blaine should be shooting the smackdown at YOU!
2003-11-06 04:34:30 PM
"Its called dive of death. It will be from such a tremendous height theres only a couple of people who lived from that height, it is like hitting pavement."

2003-11-06 04:36:48 PM
I have seen Blane up close and he is amazing! He has made
$ M I L L I O N S $ and I guess that is proof that what he does is worth something. He might not be jumping a canyon on a motorcycle but it is just as risky! psst..he can take the panties off a girl without her knowing it. Very impressive!
2003-11-06 04:40:18 PM
shotgunjohnny: "he was standing on his tiptoes" is the explanation? I don't think so. I wouldn't be so silly as to suggest it is 'actual magic', whatever that might mean, but it's still a cool trick.
2003-11-06 04:44:53 PM
The levitation he did on his tv special was fixed to look more impressive later on. The Balducci effect doesn't look nearly that impressive.

There are other methods of "levitation" that look incredible though, and go much higher off the ground. Most of them are incredibly'd kick yourself (I did) when you found out how they were done.
2003-11-06 04:46:11 PM
Live! One night only!! David Blaine's Death!!!

I'll be impressed when he kills himself mid stunt and is ablw to revive himself without medical attention.
2003-11-06 04:49:55 PM
He's a very intriguing gentleman. Saw him on Larry King last night. An introspective man that uses his talents to make money and amaze. More power to him.
2003-11-06 04:51:15 PM
2003-11-06 04:28:37 PM melissaX

Yeah, he's an AW, but when you get THAT big of a negative response from his little pissant 'stunts' (that even Paul McCartney gets into the act) you'd think you'd just chill, count your money and fark your hot girlfriend instead of being a big shiat stain culturally...

just my NSHO...:)
2003-11-06 04:51:44 PM

Nope, he's absolutly right. Google the Balducci Effect or the Balducci Levitation.
2003-11-06 04:52:13 PM
But then again, it never stopped Fred Durst...
2003-11-06 04:52:18 PM
If he jumps from, say, 200ft he would be travelling approximately 34 m/s, or 77 mi/hr. KerSPLAT!
2003-11-06 04:52:34 PM
properly performed, the 'Balducci levitation'can be a beautiful display of "paranormal powers." Setting, lighting, preparation, etc... all working together can make it be remembered as much higher than humanly possible and appear to be "totally impossible."

the fact that he was able to entertain real people, on real streets, out in public tells me he knows his craft well.

enhanced for the tv show... who cares! Finally a magician who puts the real gut level sense of wonder into his performances.

and now, he'a making you wonder in a different sense.... ya gotta wonder why he's doing the stunts... Prolly 'cause it pays well and he CAN do them safely.... while "others" think it's kewl to blast him 'cause they cant figure out how to accomplish the same stunts safely.....
2003-11-06 04:53:28 PM
Wow, gravity...some trick
It's NOT that dangerous to a trained pro, Cliff Divers and HALO (High Altitude, Low Open) Jumpers do this all the time.
2003-11-06 04:54:42 PM
Blaine is two people: a guy that does amazing "street" magic, and a guy who does Houdini/Evel Kenevel-type stunts. Houdini and Evel Kenevel were very popular in their day, why not Blaine? I'm not really understanding the David Blaine it jealousy? Of course he's an attention whore, most people are. He's just doing it on a grander scale.

I think we should foucus our hatred on someone who truly deserves it, like Michael Bay.
2003-11-06 04:55:48 PM
Awesome! That David Blaine is amazing! I hope he survives to do another astounding stunt!

(just felt like being different)
2003-11-06 04:58:08 PM
maybe he'll die like houdini, he'll be riding along in a helicopter one day and a fan will push him out... One can only hope!
2003-11-06 04:58:57 PM
Didn't the guy on "The Hunted" do this? Or at least the stunt guy anyway. *wink*

I thought the Special Forces have to jump into water from high helicopters also. Maybe not "as high".

The endurance stuff is more impressive than the "street magic" anyway. Most of that is prepared and staged. They never show all the times when he did something wrong. The shows are edited. Hell Doug Henning did better magic with his "Wonderful World of Illusion" stuff anyway.

"I'm David Blaine street magician, c'mon pick a card any card."
2003-11-06 05:02:00 PM
Uh, did I miss something here? The guy is a magician, not the reincarnation of Hitler. The theory here seems to be "He does things that I don't know how/wouldn't be willing to do and makes lots of money for it, so therefor he is an idiot".
2003-11-06 05:02:10 PM
David Blaine, Performace Artist! Like those mimes that everyone likes.

Nevermind. Kick his ass.

David Blaine deserves all of the verbal bashing he gets. He's nothing more than a street performer, doing things like "Diving at a hieght that several poeple have lived by jumping from" Who f*cking cares? Who the hell can't do that?

David Blaine should be doing sh*t we CAN'T do - 44 days in a box? Big f*cking deal. The only reason people don't do it more often is because we HAVE F*CKING JOBS THAT WON'T LET US TAKE 44 DAYS OFF PAID VACATION.

David Blaine, you are a awesome magician, but your performance art crap makes me nauseaous. Your a f*cking mime.
2003-11-06 05:06:11 PM
He wont survive this if he does it. Search under google for "Golden Gate Bridge Suicide Statistics".

The caveat of course is that he's a "Street magician" so there is probably a trick involved to ensure his survival.

But who knows, we could get lucky.

"Ahh my ligaments!"
2003-11-06 05:06:36 PM
Bellyflop onto a lake with a smooth surface and I'll be impressed.
2003-11-06 05:20:27 PM
Well, if he dies, it'll deserve a "spiffy" tag.
2003-11-06 05:22:16 PM
Uses weighted boots that keep him steady on the way down and they would also take up some of the shock on impact with the water.
Remember the man that fell 1,000's of feet, through a thunderstorm, with a failed shute, and lived! TADA!
2003-11-06 05:22:42 PM
What's with all the Blaine hating? He's an entertainer, people! Don't like it, don't watch. If you are going to complain about somebody, complain about the cast of "Friends"...
2003-11-06 05:23:55 PM
"Blaine plans death dive"
We should be so lucky.
2003-11-06 05:30:05 PM
Dear God
I try not to ask you for much. I try to do good deeds. (remember the hippies in the VW bus I pushed to a gas station?) But God, I now need a favor. Just this once would you mind parting the river ala Moses at just the right moment. I (and many many others) would be eternally grateful. Thanks.
2003-11-06 05:32:33 PM
No, it's more like

"He does things I don't know how, don't give a shiat about, and am also pretty damned sick of all the hype that goes with it."

I mean, fark HIM. He knows how to do a bunch of pretty tricks. Oh wow. What a loser. Why does he get all this attention? At least Houdini had style...well, until he started trying to disprove mediums...fark him, too...;)
2003-11-06 05:33:05 PM
remember when magicians did magic tricks?

2003-11-06 05:35:12 PM
maybe he'll die this time. (fingers crossed)
2003-11-06 05:38:50 PM
Yeah, yeah... Boiling hot Magma is one thing.

Boiling hot SMEGMA is something else!
2003-11-06 05:40:04 PM
Is this his job? Do people pay him to do this?
2003-11-06 05:42:02 PM
Cool! So, like F. Murray Abraham in Scarface?
2003-11-06 05:42:38 PM
Here's hoping he won't do any more tricks after this.
2003-11-06 05:46:02 PM
Zardoz: " I'm not really understanding the David Blaine it jealousy?"

Hell yes! I wish I could get paid for doing this stupid sh*t he does. Let me clue you into something:

Sitting in a box for 44 days: JAIL

Balancing on a pole: DUI TEST

Jumping out of a helicopter: MILITARY TRAINING

We're pissed off and tired of reading about him. Maybe not so much because we hate him, but the fact that people are still paying attention shows that the human race is infinately stupid and entertained by the absolute lowest-common denominator.
2003-11-06 05:57:03 PM
do a flip!
2003-11-06 06:09:00 PM
I've got a good one for you.

Why are David Blaine's stunts always so lame?

He wanted to make the World Trade Centers dissappear like Copperfield but someone beat him to it.
2003-11-06 06:13:33 PM

remember when magicians did magic tricks?

Yeah, now that you mention, Ferris Bueller's magic was better than David Blaine's.
2003-11-06 06:16:20 PM
I liked him when he was a street magician, but his stupid, blubbering appearance on Larry King after his stupid, pointless life-in-a-box stunt simply cranked up the crank factor too high on this perverted dork!
2003-11-06 06:19:35 PM
I like David Blaine.
2003-11-06 06:36:54 PM
Actually most of his street magic isn't really that advanced. I've watched some videos and read books on magic and his stuff isn't that advanced. He is a master at misdirection though. Pick up "The Royal Road to Card Magic" and "Expert Card Techniques" and you can pretty much learn how to do all the card magic Blaine can do, if a lot more
2003-11-06 06:48:59 PM
2003-11-06 12:38:12 PM albo

die david blaine, die!

(translated: the david blaine, the)

OK, according to albo's German, either David Blaine has had a sex change, or there's more than one of him.

Either way, that's [image from too old to be available].
2003-11-06 06:51:41 PM
attention....whore. and so is his girlfriend. they are both attention whores.
2003-11-06 06:58:47 PM
[image from too old to be available]

if only he stayed in the box
2003-11-06 07:05:20 PM
i dont get the hate.
2003-11-06 07:23:07 PM
Half the time, during jumps like these, in addition to the fractures, brain matter gets discharged from the ear.

I dunno what Blaine's thinking he can deter...but it's not going to be internal body physics.
2003-11-06 07:33:34 PM
wtf is "internal body physics."?
2003-11-06 07:41:28 PM
Maybe I'm wrong, but don't we have a fleet of specialized military personnel that do that for training/fun? Actually, don't we have a group of morons on Fear Factor that do that every week?
2003-11-06 08:04:40 PM
ILLUSIONIST David Blaine ... Where the fark is the illusion? Daredevil, maybe ...

Anyway, I'm really excited for this stunt. With any luck, he will suffer a terrible injury, spending his last moments of life in a paralized body before finally dying (painfully).
2003-11-06 08:09:51 PM
Hey! He should be dropped from 200 feet out of a helicopter into a river while still inside his clear box!
