So the sage advice of Donald Trump and Sarah Palin couldn't sway them? Oh well, their funeral.

2012-05-23 11:27:44 AM
So when is someone in the press going to point out the Romney was talking about Jeramiah Wright in his campaign stops earlier in the campaign?

Oh probably never.

Good on them.

(gasp) Why are they repressing the truth?!

GOP stops trying to market themselves to people who already have their tongues in the GOP's ass.

Film at 11.

Maybe this is the start of the GOP's purging of crazy from their party.

/too bad they won't feel truly clean for decades

2012-05-23 11:30:35 AM
They want people radical christians to believe he is muslim not that he is a radical christian.

2012-05-23 11:32:11 AM
They just need time to change their name, then they'll get contracted again.

2012-05-23 11:32:58 AM
Does "cuts ties" mean "refuse their money forever" or "temporary PR move until after the convention"?

Yeah, this is just like big show the GOP makes from handing back the check they receive every election from the Log Cabin Republicans.

Let's not give them too much credit here- So far as I'm aware, the PAC still has every intention of using this angle. All the Convention did was set up plausible deniability ahead of time. That way they get the benefits of an attack ad, but manage to avoid any possible backlash from it. After all, they cut ties with the group months before! I'm all for giving them strategy points, since it IS a good plan, but let's not pretend this was altruistic.

They are not co-coordinating their efforts. You know that thing we were told Super-PACS were not legally allowed to do but now it seems is fine?

wait i thought obama was a mooslim? What is he doing with a CHRISTIAN pastor?

I'm not advocating it, but I'm pretty sure that there's a legal distinction between coordinating with a specific candidate and coordinating with a party's convention. The law as written prohibits the former, but I don't recall anything about the latter off the top of my head. I might well be misremembering, though.

They'll use it as an issue anyway. As well as The Terrorist Bill Ayers and The Terrorist Van Jones.

/not to mention the fact that, if ()bama is re-elected, EVERYTHING WILL EXPLODE

I heard a pretty good piece about it on NPR, but other than that, [crickets].

Growing a brain or more clumsy manipulation? Hmmmm.

2012-05-23 11:42:27 AM
Who is this Obama guy? Why has no one ever heard of him? Why hasn't he been vetted?

2012-05-23 11:43:21 AM
Hmm.. for some reason it seems like those backing Romney don't want in-depth analyses of the candidates' religious backgrounds to be fair game.

2012-05-23 11:47:15 AM
Of course they did. The "leak" was the release, and injected Wright into the campaign discussion.

A knowledgeable Republican source estimated to TheDC on Tuesday that Donatelli and her firm are likely losing out on hundreds of thousands of dollars by no longer having the contract with the Republican National Convention.

...

"This shows that he's going to be milquetoast just like McCain was when it comes to taking on Obama," the Republican said. "That's the biggest concern."

So "a knowledgeable Republican source" = looney derper?

The PAC is a false flag operation made to make the GOP look stupid. This is the kind of reverse troll operation we can expect in post citizens united America.

Is it a good tactic though? The danger isn't really that the GOP gets painted in some bad light for bringing up religion. Religion is central to their mission, and mudslinging is a huge part of their traditional strategy. Their voters, and most independents, don't really care.

The real danger here is that Mormon theology will end up on the discussion table as the natural counter-point to any discussion of Wright. News programs will feel the need to fill in because they have to cover "both sides". Mormonism is esoteric and has some pretty strange traditions that are going to undercut the "real america" part of the GOPs messaging. Even worse, the conversation could easily turn to race and religion, which brings in the whole pre-1979 thing. Plausible deniability doesn't stop the conversation.

They don't want these things to air, and cutting ties is their best chance to choke off funding and support. GOP leaders have a long memory when it comes to loyalty and conformity.

2012-05-23 11:53:50 AM
Because they know that's a losing battle. If you start attacking Wright about what he said, people are going to start asking why he said what he said, and that does not make the GOP look good.

Lunaville: (gasp) Why are they repressing the truth?!

they aren't repressing the truth, we all know Obama is a secret muslim, and not a christian. he will come in the night and rape your women, and eat all your chicken.

Michael Bay will become President?

The GOP is still betting that the crappy job Obama has done will be enough to defeat him.

What a terrible use of the hero tag.

Its the bet they made in December of 2008 and, you are correct, they have never wavered.

Hero tag feels dirty, misused.

And just yesterday Barracuda Sarah advocated -- publicly on television -- that Rmoney should attack Obama for consorting with Wright.
