Yeah, him and Boteach have had a long friendship. Talmudic studies are absolutely fascinating regardless of what you think of religion. They're the equivalent of say studying court decisions if they were a) funny and b)involved everyday life and moral issues.

Fiqh in the Islamic tradition is the same general concept.

Even religions which hold their books to be infallible words of god recognize the need for interpretation and application to modern life.

And yet in this country any attempt to do so is evidence of "activist judges"

Cory definitely sounds like a great guy, but sorry, he stepped in some shiat in the realm of national politics. You can't go on TV and say that talking about Bain Capital is the same as talking about Jeremiah Wright, especially when Romney likes to tout his private sector experience and why that makes him economaster of the universe.

A thoughtful piece. Its too bad that the conservative/teabagger/Republican response to this is going to be screaming RINOOOOOOOOO!!!!! as loudly as possible.

A rabbi who wrote a book called Kosher Sex is a Republican?

Wow, the North is really different ... and in a really good way. If there are any Northerners on this thread, this Southerner wants to say "Well done, keep setting an excellent example for the rest of the country."

There's more than enough derp in the North as well. Wisconsin, Michigan for examples. Pennsylvania is... a bit odd. The Atlantic states seem to be a bit more sane, but that's probably just an image.

being one of those northerners and a NY'er I have to say that Cory Booker actually makes Jersey look like a nice place. I mean the guy drove around in his pickup truck helping residence dig out of the xmas snow storm and had Newark cleaned up while Bloomburg was being and idiot suggesting all snowed in people who's streets he didn't plow for 5 &^%$^^& days go see a show on broadway.

The guy is a real person unlike almost all politicians
