Is the software they used in Jurassic Park freeware now or something?

They really missed their best chance for a Gilligan's Island movie. They should've done that in the early 90s.
Marlon Brando as the Skipper.
Woody Allen as Gilligan.
Maybe Carl Sagan could've been talked into playing the professor.

The thought of Marlon Brando chasing Woody Allen around a hammock trying to hit him with his skipper hat just makes me feel good inside.

This movie? This movie looks like it will suck.

This should be a SyFy monster flick rather than the absurdly expensive CGI debacle it's destined to become....

We believe that the Dinosaurs had culture. They didn't speak, but they did have other ways of communicating. It won't be a problem, and it will be pretty fantastic.

What kind of weapons do the dinosaurs have?

They actually a few weapons, they learn from the aliens. They're very smart - that's one of the things about the dinosaurs. That makes them possibly the way they really were. They have rudimentary things, but they learn as they go along from the aliens. You now know more than anyone else about this [movie].

WTF am I reading?

Bet it'll do as good as Cowboys vs. Aliens.

Actually, I doubt this movie will ever go into production.

We need more dinosaur films, I'm always amazed at how realistic the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park looked, nearly 20 years ago. If you go back 20 years before that it was all lumps of clay, and today it's all clearly fake CGI dinosaurs. Unless I've missed some stuff I haven't seen anyone do it better.

I'm probably going to be in the minority here, but that sounds incredibly awesome.

Well, Jurassic Park did it right and didn't JUST rely on CGI. They used a very healthy amount of animitronics too, and I love the way it's held up.

It's like Hollywood got together and said "What could we do to completely waste Grant Morrison's talent and make sure he never has a chance at making movies again?"

Cowboys & Aliens had the potential to sink to SyFy level of suckage, but it was played completely seriously, and you know what? It actually *WORKED*. It was a decent (though not perfect) movie.

That's the kindest I've ever heard anyone be to that movie. The rest of us, at best, have to resort to mumbling something vague about some of the actresses being not unattractive, because it didn't really have any redeeming qualities otherwise. It lacked the fundamental ridiculousness of the comic because the references to old-school comics didn't really translate.

As for the movie in TFA, if you're going to have dinosaur gun battles or whatever, why not just make a Dinotopia movie? 80% of the art direction is done for you, it would have some awesome visual setpieces, and the plot is simple, concise, and has the right amount of emotional weight for an action flick.

Well, it has to be judged for what it is. On that level, it works as a film. It's not utterly ridiculous given the premise of the film, it's not played for laughs, and both Craig and Ford are very effective in the film.

I'm not saying it's Oscar material, but it's a fun film to watch.

Yeah but he's right. Even the stuff that was clearly CGI looked better than a lot of stuff today. It's probably because it's the first time they tried it (they were using stop motion halfway through production) and they really had to prove it would work. Now it just a matter of course.

Agreed, but at least Watterson stopped while the strip was still good. Sad that the near-daily reminder is copyright-infringing Calvin praying stickers on the backs of minivans.

As for the pic, I'm surprised nobody beat me to posting that.

I liked Cowboys vs. Aliens. The ending was very very meh... and *SPOILERS for the few that give a fark* Olivia Wilde being an alien herself was unneccesary, to me. But I really liked Harrison Ford in that movie. And that's rare these days that I feel I can say that. The trailers kept playing him as "the villain" of the movie, but I found his character to be probably the most decent person in that film, especially how he related to Ong the Last Airbender kid.

Did I read the words "Grant Morrison" "Dinosaurs" and "Aliens" used in one sentence?

I'm sold. Opening day ticket, please.

I am suprised how well the CGI in Jurassic Park has held up all the dinosaur movies today on the SyFy channel look like they were made with effects pre Jurassic Park. Im mean really spend the extra $50 and get the better software.

Much of the "CGI" in Jurassic Park was actually puppets.

It's even less original when you realize they're not aliens, they're the Sheeda from seven soldiers.

Jesus fark, thank you. He's a lazy ass writer who doesn't want to do any exposition or write an actual story line and everyone acts like he's a genius because if you call him on it, he acts like you're just not smart enough to follow his crap. fark you, Grant Morrison, I did understand Final Crisis and it still sucked. fark you for Batman too. I catch a lot of flak for not really liking "A Serious House on Serious Earth." Too much armchair psychology and outdated Freudian theories, and his symbolism could have used some subtlety, instead of just screaming it at you.

I firmly believe that dinosaurs went extinct because aliens overhunted them for sport.
