As this occurred in the state of California, I now expect a legislator to advocate prohibition of civilian ownership of Super-Soaker water guns, rifle slings, or both.

Take a supersoaker, add some bullets, BOOM - shotgun.

when the officers got closer, they realized the toy had been turned into a home-made shotgun

How the fark close did they have to get? Because that's a fairly close-up pic, and I'd never have guessed...

Hopefully the shoulder thing that goes up is also banned.

So that means it's open season on any OWS protesters with squirt guns this summer.

I wouldn't put it past the cops to rig this up themselves precisely for that reason.

2012-05-23 12:54:49 AM
Well, Miami has banned squirt guns during the RNC.

OTOH, state law won't let them ban concealed hand guns.

Seen pictures at work of a larger super soaker shotgun. This other one was concealed inside a super soaker with the pistol grip sticking out of the bottom painted in bright orange.

I'd actually like to see a Super Soaker shotgun. Not the kind that fires shot, but lets loose a slug of water. Hmm... if I can make it work I might have a product.

it looks to be just shy of 24 inches overall length. that alone puts it under NFA as something, an AOW maybe? iirc, it requires an 18" barrel and 26" in overall to be legal, but its been awhile since i had to know such things.

you can make your own firearms at home all you like with no legal issues, but they have to be of a type legal to possess in the first place. a sawed-off shotgun is not, and that one is both too short overall and arguably lacks a shoulder stock.

Yeah, that's what I was hoping for with the link. Some kind of mod that sends a big chunk of the reservoir in a single extravagant burst.

Regardless of if its of length or not, you have to have a permit to manufacture firearms. Considering this guy was a felon, I'm going to go out on a limb and say he didn't have the proper permit and didn't bother to put a serial number on it.

You have to have a permit to manufacture firearms for sale. Not for personal use. Before the Arizona machinegun guy, the felon thing didn't matter either (if you machined everything yourself, no pre-built parts could be used).

Less worried about that more worried about whose kid gets shot next by police for carrying a toy gun.

I was about to say you were wrong on the first part, but looking it up I found.

(Question) An individual acquires frames or receivers and assembles firearms for his or her personal use, not for sale or distribution.
(Answer) The individual is not manufacturing firearms for sale or distribution and is not required to be a licensed manufacturer.

I am gonna say you are wrong on the second part though. A felon in possession of any firearm is a felony, regardless of if it was legally made or not.

The old White Wolf system gave weapons concealibility ratings, which were named after things in which you could hide the weapon. A pen knife, for example, might have a concealability of "hand", while a pistol had a concealibility rating of "jacket". Shotguns had a concealability of "trenchcoat," though I suppose we'll have to change that to "Super Soaker" now.

My favorites were the ones for larger weapons, which had ratings like "yeah, right," "(sound of hysterical laughter)", and my personal favorite, the claymore, which had a concealability of "castle."

Are shotguns required to have shoulder stocks in California? We keep a Mossburg with a pistol grip at my bar in NY. It makes it easier to grab and use in tight spaces.

Well, you can say it, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you like being wrong. There are multiple exceptions to that rule, for example, antique firearms. "Antique firearms" has a very specific legal definition, the gist of which is that they must be manufactured before 1892 or modern copies of those firearms, provided they do not fire ammunition which is "common and readily available". Self-machined/manufactured firearms are another exception. If you don't believe me, ask the ATF.

For those of you who wonder how the term "gun fetishism" might be defined:

"Hey! I concealed a shotgun in a super-soaker!"

"Don't they make those things bright orange and other ridiculous colors nowadays so kids don't get shot by cops for carrying toy guns that look like real ones?"

"Yeah! So now no one will suspect I'm carrying a shotgun! They'll think it's a toy gun! This is so cool!"

"Okay, so what happens now? Cops get the idea that even brightly-colored things that are meant to not look like real guns still might be real guns?"

"Man, you are such a liberal commie gun control nut, aren't you?"

The model 10 is no longer produced. It was put out some time in the 70s or 80s. Not many around. I lucked out and scored one for $350.
Have yet to see a KSG anywhere.

Playing cowboys and indians with sticks as their guns,
Nothing at all

Here in vermont anyone may carry concealed.
the state law is that you may not conceal a weapon over six feet in length.

So when you visit, just remember that motorcycle you are tailgating very likely has a .44 mag in a hunter shoulder holseter under the jacket.

So I don't have to worry about the ATF knocking at my door if I were to experiment with the feasibility of making a .27cal pistol using spare parts from a Hilti powder-actuated nail gun? Because I thought nearly all the fun of being a male (specifically tinkering with things) had been outlawed already.

I own one gun...a 10/22 that's been new in the box for three years, unfired. My wife's not a fan of guns and I don't live in an area where I can step outside and pop off a few rounds at targets, nor do I have time to go to the nearby range. Holy shiat...I just realized that I haven't fired a gun in twenty years. They're so fun, dammit!

Still might look into concealed carry permit, even if I don't intend on carrying. Open carry seems to have passed, so I might as well.
