I like this part: "We support the elimination of the departments of Agriculture,"

"Hey. Our entire state is completely dependent upon agricultural subsidies. Let's eliminate them!"

2012-05-22 11:42:34 AM
Wow.

2012-05-22 11:49:12 AM
We support the elimination of the departments of Agriculture, Education, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Energy, Interior, Labor, and Commerce as well as TSA, FDA, ATF, EPA, National Endowment for the Arts, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac.

So, the Iowa GOP are basically saying all we need is Justice and Defense?

Everything else will work itself out through free market actions?

Good to know. I mean, what could possibly go wrong with that plan?

What an awesome state that will be. I think we should let one state do this. They can opt out of all federal taxes, but in return they get no federal spending. This includes FEMA, Army Corps of Engineers, or the Nat'l Guard from other states coming to help them when disaster strikes. Don't interfere when they decide to eliminate public schools, all funding for infrastructure, etc. Basically, just let one of these states have their Republican paradise. Then they can serve as an example for the rest of us.

And what Aarontology said: You're whole state economy is propped up by corn subsidies. Get rid of that and see where it gets ya.

Rain-Monkey: So, the Iowa GOP are basically saying all we need is Justice and Defense?

You can make some sort of poor argument that the Dept of Education needs to be eliminated, but the FDA? What kind of idiot thinks that might be in any way acceptable?

TFA: "We disagree with Roe vs. Wade and Doe vs. Bolton as "settled law." Under the Tenth amendment, these Supreme Court decisions have no authority over the states."

Let us know how that works out for you. I hear Ken Burns took notes on this sort of thing.

"We demand that the term "sustainable development" be defined, vetted, and controlled by county and state agricultural agencies whose private property it impacts rather than the UN, other international or Agenda 21 agencies, or any federal organization."

Was this, uh, a problem? What about intergalactic empires? I hear the Seven Spirits of the Havona Circuits think Iowa is in their jurisdiction. Maybe you could ban Sharia Law, and you might as well proscribe Martian Law, while you're at it.

Why is the far-right so pants-shiattingly afraid of the UN? What are they going to do? Convene a working group? Draft a document?

The only way the UN can direct US behavior is if we sign on to a treaty, and guess who handles treaty signing? (Hint: Not the Iowa state government)

Do these numbnuts even know what agencies are in what departments? Oh, you want to get rid of DHS and the TSA, along with HHS and the FDA.

Also, without the DoE, I assume they plan to let the free market take care of the nuclear arsenal. what could possibly go wrong?

2012-05-22 12:07:24 PM
FTA:
"The platform proposes the elimination of 16 federal departments and agencies - despite the fact that throughout the rest of the document they call on these particular agencies to enact or repeal certain policies:

We support the elimination of the departments of Agriculture, Education, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Energy, Interior, Labor, and Commerce as well as TSA, FDA, ATF, EPA, National Endowment for the Arts, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac."

You know what we used to do to people that wanted to "get rid" of the government?

Hell, I think we even fought a war over getting rid of certain aspects of the government...

So I have to ask,why does anyone vote Republican? Sure/ if you're trying to destroy the country they're great, fantastic even. Better than any "terrorist" group, that's for sure. If that's your goal, then vote GOP. If not, why are you?

Just Justice and Defense is a pure Libertarian government. Military power, and stop the people from revolting against the new fedualism.

We insist that a candidate prove that he or she meets all requirements for that office prior to being placed in nomination, including proof of United States citizenship.

Obama already farking did that. He released his certificate of live birth in 2008 which exactly fulfills the "proof" requirement based on the federal passport application process. The long-form certificate that Obama released last year has no specific standing in law because it's never needed and is generally not acquirable.

If they can't specify exactly what proof they want in clear terms, they should just write Obama's impeachment into their platform.

There are some loonies in D.C., but the real crazy resides at the state level. My state in particular, so thanks, Iowa, for making us look saner.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. While I am not a huge fan of some of those agencies, I wouldn't eliminate them altogether.

If nothing else, the rulings of the judges that get to smack all of this down should be hilarious.

I wonder if people realize that the Republican party is 35% of the registered voters, and the majority of that would be 18%. And 18% of the people in this country are without question crazy stupid.

No, you're confused. Corn subsidies, Medicare, and social security are in the bible, and are delivered by Jesus himself. Once the Tea Party has successfully dismantled the federal government, those checks will still be delivered. Because Jesus. Also, socialism.

Sometimes I wish I didn't live in the US, so I could just say "let them win so the GOP can finally implode" without having to live in a mad-max style hell-hole myself.

It worked pretty well against Socialists back in the day.

1. Because Obama is black.
2. Because gays are icky.
3. Because I hate paying taxes.
4. Because the UN goons in the black helicopters are going to take my shotgun away.
5. Because abortion is murder.
6. Because I like randomly killing Muslims in countries on the other side of the planet.

Most Republicans believe in one of these six statements, possibly all six.

It's insane. It's basically saying "Let's drown our economy in the bathtub because ideology demands it"

2012-05-22 01:38:58 PM
So the economy is fixed then?

Geotpf: 3. Because I hate paying taxes.

I think most people - R or D - hate paying taxes.

Most recognize that it's a necessity for all the services we get, but that doesn't mean they like it.

I think a better statement would be "Because I think any tax is too much tax for any reason."

They didn't say they want to eliminate corporate welfare, just the agency that determines how much welfare their corporate farms get.

2012-05-22 01:44:40 PM
I see Iowa is getting on the "Please-Drew-give-our-state-a-tag-just-like-Florida" band wagon.

Give one to Arizona first, Drew!

That's a good point, actually.

I suppose it'll be easier to funnel funds away from their intended use without oversight.

Well, the Bible does contain a story wherein Jesus broke the laws of physics in order to provide welfare in the form of bread and fishes.
