Moron.

Game management is one of the only reasons you have a healthy deer population.

Take the bag limit, part of the game management tool box. Give it a few years with no limit on deer, and watch as you finish selecting for bucks with smaller and smaller racks. Who knows, give it enough time and other environmental pressures, and you might end up with antlerless male deer.

Then you have hunting on public lands. Remove that opportunity or restrict it further. Now you have the chance of a population boom as animals don't get culled during the hunt, since other predators don't really exist in sufficient populations to control white tail deer populations. Crop damage goes up, car accidents increase, and disease can spread through the population and sometimes make the jump over into livestock like dairy cattle.

I'm sure there are plenty of Wisconsin Republicans saying "I have enough land to hunt, so this doesn't affect me" or "I hunt at a buddies place, this doesn't affect me". God damn I hate the "Fark you, I got mine" attitude.

Not to mention that he's a carpetbagger from TX.

People who call for more public lands are "cocktail conservationists," he says,

Are these correlated with the LIMOZEEN liberals?

Wasn't there some famous guy who they tried to imprison due to shooting a deer on the King's land? A sir Robin of somewhere?

The key difference here is that 98 percent of Texas is comprised of private land.

Wisconsin, on the other hand, consists of approximately 34.8 million acres of land, and 25.5 percent of the state's 638,000 gun-hunters reported hunting on public land at some point during the season (2010, Duey, Rees).

So let's see: under this guy's plan, wealthy land owners will own all the verdant, wild land in the state. Under the current plan, I own the wild land along with a couple million of my fellow citizens.

Yeah, fark you.

This guy got his idea from being in Africa, the poorest part of the planet, they have no means to take care of public land. We are a nation that can and does afford maintaining huge national parks that all taxpayers have access to and we don't have poachers here killing off animals for Chinese medicine and blackmarket trinkets for the rich, it's not even a comparable situation.

Erm, what?

Plenty of countries in Africa take public game management and national parks very seriously. They just have a lot of territory to cover and not a lot of money.

And in some of those places the Game Wardens are little guys with a lifetime of tracking experience and AK-47s. And if they catch you poaching they usually don't bother to just give you a ticket with your fine and ban you from hunting for three years. They go straight for the permanent solution.

egads...my dad has been biatching and moaning about this guy non-stop (he's still in WI, I'm from there...)

Sure...the rich land owner with huge fences and hundreds of acres wants to make changes...of course you do. there's more money in that.

What a farking idiot... communism? Seriously, you stupid, ignorant shiat?

hey Wisconsin, stop voting for morons. They hire more morons.

Wildlife management should be an area that environmentalists on the left and right, whether vegetarians or hunters or whatever, should be able to come together. There's a common interest there.

Not if he gets the DNR to actually stop the spread of CWD to the north and west. If they lose places like Adams and Juneau County for a while they'll live but god help them if it gets north and west of Monroe County.

/From up that way, he doesn't sound any crazier than the people I grew up around

indeed. just last week several poachers were reported to have reached for weapons when caught. on the plus side, Africa now has less poachers. their Wardens are tired of finding wildlife slain for the sake of a few tusks or organs. i wish their Wardens all the best in decimating the poacher population.

In the article, this guy got his idea from being in Africa where the private game "sanctuary" is maintained better than the public reserves. In the poorest part of the planet that is understandable to me. In the richest nation in the history of the world that is not understandable to me as an operating procedure.

So, the 'natural' way is high fences holding in domesticated deer that can be easily shot by a bunch of inbred human trash (like dick cheney and his quail-in-a-box method of 'hunting')?

Why not just raise cows and let the idiots shoot them? The meat tastes better and you don't have to screw up the environment by selling all the public land to scum-bags only interested in making a buck?

Or, just lynch that Walker guy and all his cronies (my personal choice).

Forget an African, European, or Texan solution to Wisconsins deer problem.

What they really need, is a Germanic solution to those vermin.

gameshowhost: Not to mention that he's a carpetbagger from TX.

Futhermore down in TX where all hunting is done of on private lands, like he wants in WI, he is one of three founders of a stock breeder's association called the Texas Deer Association that sell prize deer for breeding for as much as $45,000 ea. Whereas in the rest of the country we regard White-tail as "Rats that can fark up your car royally" down there he has managed to commoditize them to the extent that Hunting is a sport almost exclusively of the rich.

If this story spreads wide enough in the next twenty days, particularly among those for whom deer-hunting is either a religion or a matter of basic survival, and they realize the average TX deer hunter, thanks largely to Kroll's efforts, has to spend 2-3k in licenses and leases to hunt. I suspect Walker could lose in a landslide

Technically what he believes is that there should be ZERO public lands. He thinks all land should be privately owned because someone selling hunting rights on their property will manage it better. True private game reserves do tend to be better stocked, but the guy misses the point of public lands entirely.

His name was Robin O' the Hood and he warn't a "Sir" just a po'ed peasant who realized that a longbow pierces armor just as neat and clean as a deer's ribcage, and that he wasn't gonna take no more guff from these French-speaking interlopers who thought they suddenly owned to whole damned island

I wonder if he realizes that the roads he has to drive on to get to his private spread of land is socialism in action?

Yes, let's run the Wisconsin state government like a semi-failed African state. What a capital idea.

You know, when libs say "Somalia is a libertarian paradise," we are actually aware that we are joking. But apparently Scott Walker takes the idea seriously.

Yeah, considering Wisconsin's mandatory "beer fridge in the garage" law, I don't see how that's possible.
