Hi there!

1.) Someone's clearly been playing Mass Effect. Ava = Avina.
2.) A video projected on a piece of glass =/= a hologram

Who gave those guys the contract to build that? It looks like something slapped together with off-the-shelf parts.

Done in one with Cythraul, and also:

It does look like crap. A flat screen TV would've looked better.

Or better yet, get a human-sized glass half-cylinder lined with Vikuiti projection film and project onto that instead of a crappy plastic human-shaped cutout. And why use pre-filmed human footage? I would think it'd be much cheaper and easier (not to mention more flexible) in the long run to simply use a CG character. Hell, you can even build it in one of the many video game engines out there that would probably be cheaper to license.

Came to say this. More than that, this isn't even new. They've had this in Europe airports for a while, and at least there it doesn't look as shiatty.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't cable "modems" still true modems because they're using a waveform that's not purely digital? QAM and all that fancy stuff?

You're absolutely correct. A baseband signal would be a horrendously inefficient use of bandwidth over a medium like cable that has the SNR to easily support complex modulations. Not to mention all the fancy equalization and such forth to correct for group delay.

MODulator/DEModulator

It's still doing both those things

Will this be like the standard McDonald's Drive-thru speaker greeting "Welcome to McDonald's would you like to try an iced strawberry coldcut whipped california frappaccinic calcium-free desert pie today?" Because that would be pretty lame.
