To be fair, Romney would have far less difficulty doing what had to be done to fix the economy.

HE wouldn't be facing an opposition party sworn to keep the economy in the shiatter as an object lesson to the people who dared to vote him in.

Much like a man convinced that tying cinder blocks to his feet will make him a champion sprinter, the GOP solution is always "well, I guess we just need MOAR tax cuts for the rich!"

Yeah, but haven't the lessons of the 112th congress told us that the GOP needs to sit out the white house another 4 years and the congress for another 2 until they get their soul searching done.

Well, we don't make much of anything anymore, do we? Except spoiled self-indulgent children.

Our large manufacturing base with unions that guaranteed good jobs to those of limited education have trickled away. They are still around in some places, but the vast majority of those jobs have been replaced by service sector jobs that pay a low stagnant wage.

Couple that with an advertising rich society that "makes" those of limited means and limited intelligence want things they do not need and spend money they do not have on crap they do not need and you find a large group of people with plastic toys from china for their kids, fast food wrappers littering their car, non-food in the kitchen, and complaining they cannot make their mortgage payments, but there is big screen TV, a Kinex, and a lazy teenager on the couch texting on a cell phone that there's nothing to do.

Yeah, it was a run on sentence... sue me.

I am as liberal as they come, but Jesus, when are these folks going to wake up? No, they won't. Ever. Lulled by the opiates of the masses.

Most Americans like to think American presidents are to blame for the economy, and also think that when the economy gets better, that was also the amazing job of their president, depending on what political party they belong to, and whether or not the president at the time matches their party.

It's idiocy at the lowest level to actually think the president has balls to do with either economic recovery or economic ruin when we're part of a massive and complex global economy.

World economic policies in literally millions of iterations could have been responsible for the current economy. It's simply impossible to point out which ones in which configurations specifically caused things to be the way they are. People seem to forget that virtually every country in the world is in the same boat we are, and Barack Obama or George Bush haven't been making policy in Greece, or France, or England. Now, obviously, America is a larger than average puzzle piece in this, but still yet, America as a whole takes only a relatively small portion of the blame.

The argument over the economic recovery is, thus, a minor one when you're talking about what president you should vote for. The fact is, they simply have little to do with it.

2012-05-22 09:22:59 AM
Romney's does have ideas for the economy and a fix is definitely on there but it's more of a "the fix is in" kinda fix than the traditional "mend things" type of fix.

Kinda like the way Bain fixed the companies they bought.

He's surrounded himself with Bush era money men so we know the only ideas he has are "cut taxes and regulations" and then tell the vast majority of Americans to sit back and wait for the economy's wealth to trickle down.

Oh and make the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy permanent.

And create more loopholes like the one he took advantage of to set up a 100 million dollar trust fund for his kid's totally tax free.

And this is not so popular? Hmmm, maybe people are capable of learning.

I was making the claim sarcastically... because you made the claim sincerely with your 2000, 2004, 2008 rant dialogue. The problem isn't complex at all, btw.

1. 1960s happened.
2. Religious douchebags got upset, blamed the problems of society on the 1960s.
3. Religious assholes started getting elected
4. Here we are, farked.

2012-05-22 09:26:37 AM
Oh, and I meant to throw in something about cyclical periods of depressed economies. Any utterly complex, organic economic system (i.e. numerous systems devised by humans spread out over many countries) is going to spin out of whack at some point. But we still need someone to blame, even though no one is really to blame.

I disagree...The economy can be fixed in a sustainable way, but merely tweaking it in a conventional fashion isn't going to solve anything. The coalescence of monetary resources is the crux of the problem and the effect is an eroding the middle class, creating an increasingly anti-competitive market, and killing jobs; a stimulus or adjusting of interest/tax rates isn't going fix that.

How come liberals can't argue actual policy and always resort.to strawmen? The only tax policy romney has stated is close loopholes and lower all tax bracket rates. Even Obama's debt commission came to that conclusion. Closing tax loopholes is one of two ways to raise tax revenue, and it is the one that removes government.favoritism.

Let's see what Romney's ideas are:

1. "At Bain I always made money, so that means I am excellent"

2. Ads featuring working people farked over by Bain.

3. "Those ads are deplorable, how dare they!"

So if I understand -- we can talk about previous employment when it's in a good light, but not when it's not. What an asshole.

What tax loop holes? Which holes is he going to close to pay for the reduction in overall rates?

Doesn't that mean tax increases on some people? Who? And won't that still require the raising of the debt ceiling?
