I am shocked, shocked to find political correctness run amok in this Hollywood establishment!

2012-05-22 08:46:15 AM
The fact that some moviegoers actually believe a handful of plucky kids can take on an entire invading force in the first place is insulting.

2012-05-22 08:46:40 AM
It's been Homefronted!

The freeper's won't care; they all look alike to them, and they'll only be fapping
to the military hardware and bootstrappiness anyway.

Because, you know, the Nork army can just jump aboard ships and planes and invade the USA, no problem.

2012-05-22 08:49:42 AM
That's realistic- a country that builds ICBMs out of plywood and spackle can move enough troops to invade a superpower.

shiat just got unreal...

Old news. They did the same thing in Homefront. And now that China has bought AMC Theaters (thanks Bain!), expect a wave of Chinese-made movies hitting our shores soon.

The fact that moviegoers can believe that the North Korean People's Army could launch a successful attack and occupation of a Starbucks, let alone the entire mid-western US is insulting.

An Infowars link? Yeah, no. I'll wait for a real source, thanks.

China? Um... unlikely, but possible.
North Korea? No.

Oh yeah that plausible. Lamest Korea invades us bwwwahhhaaaaa.

Very old news. Like a year old. And it has nothing to do with the AMC buyout, so that's a very weak link to make.

But Alex is a bit of a moron.

It'll be like Mao's Re-Education Happy Fun Camps from coast to coast, showing Homelanders the Good and Joy that is the Middle Kingdom Workers' Paradise.

So a small, shiatstain country that can't even get a missile into the air is supposed to conquer the US? I'd facepalm, but I'd probably fracture my skull.

The movie was to be far-fetched but plausible with a Chinese army. Pretending North Korea has the resources and wherewithal to stage a terrestrial invasion of American soil will destroy any remaining suspension of disbelief this POS movie might have otherwise clung to.

Most of the relevant actors are probably Korean anyway, since most Americans can't tell the difference between a Korean and a Chinese man.

I'm thinking a couple of basement dwellers using whatever they find in the garage can handle it now.

Old news from March 2011 sure is exciting!

2012-05-22 08:56:16 AM
Completely stupid.

Then again after what they did to the remake of Manchurian Candidate...

2012-05-22 08:56:36 AM
Okey again there nees to be citeria met before Movies are remade...

1) Original was in black and white, or 50 years old.

2) Most of the audience that saw it the first time is passed on or so old the do not remember the movie.

3) There were serious story flaws that needed to be corrected.

4) The fact that CGI wasn't around yet is not a factor to it being remade.

After that then fine but the 1980's movie was epic and should not be toyed with. Proof... Footloose.

To be fair, this is North Korea we are talking about, and the Americans are armed with food.

Is anything new anymore? Recycled music, recycled movies.

Get off my lawn and come up with some new shiat!

gopher321: The fact that some moviegoers actually believe a handful of plucky kids can take on an entire invading force in the first place is insulting.

If I remember the original movie correctly, they fought as partisans for a few months then died. Doesn't sound too far off base. That is sort of what happens in lots of insurgencies.

2012-05-22 08:57:04 AM
So....

They remake a 1984 movie in 2009, but due to "financial" issues with the studio they do not release it for 3 years. Now they decide to release it and the producers are digitally changing Chinese to North Korean.

Yeah - this thing has straight to video written all over it

At least with the Chinese they have the plausibility to be able to project power from Asia to North America. Not sure if Best Korea can even drive across the 38th parallel anymore

beefoe: The invading force in Red Dawn (already filmed) is changing (post-production) from Chinese troops to North Korean troops because Hollywood doesn't want to offend China a market with 1.6 billion potential paying customers.

DING DING DING. We have a winner. And yes, this was started a long time ago (years) for that very reason. If Best Korea could offer a multimillion dollar box office potential, the story would be the other way around.

2012-05-22 08:59:04 AM
Hollywood's utter inability to come up with something, ANYTHING original is by now a source of constant joy. Proceed.

2012-05-22 08:59:08 AM
Wouldn't the Chinese be easier to defeat since half of them got killed of in the original?

2012-05-22 09:00:30 AM
That movie was so idiotic, there is simply nothing you could do to make it worse.

That invasion would have lasted about 2 days, with the last day just rounding up the surrendering stragglers.

It reminds me of the vast christian majority terrifying it's flock of idiots that the 'heathens' are out to get them.

"Look out, a million Mexican troops are pouring over the border!"

"Air strike any heavy weapons and let the local cops cleanup the rest... duh."

2012-05-22 09:00:45 AM
It would be pretty hilarious to see any country try to invade the US. Considering gun ownership per capita in the US is higher than anywhere on earth by leaps and bounds, they would pretty much have to obliterate the US from the air (which is not likely to happen in the near future). If you think the militias in the middle east are fierce, imagine the militias that would form in the US.

2012-05-22 09:00:46 AM
gopher321: The fact that some moviegoers actually believe a handful of plucky kids can take on an entire invading force in the first place is insulting.

They can't, and they didn't in the original movie.

Remember, in the original Red Dawn the "Wolverines" hide out for a couple months, then they have some success against what are essentially second and third-rate REMF troops*, and they are almost completely wiped out within a month of the Soviets getting serious and bringing in the Spetznaz troops. The whole movie only goes from the initial invasion in September until March, or roughly 6 months.

The only two survivors manage to live by running away.

It's not the "Plucky teenagers defeat the Soviet Army" film that people seem to *THINK* it is. It's a much more realistic, and subtle, movie than people generally give it credit for.

*Also, apparently some combat units sent to the rear for rest/reorganization, such as the tank that fills up at the gas station. No need for a tank like that 40 miles behind the front, except as a reserve or to rest/re-arm/re-org.

Really, because we've just had a war where a couple tens of thousands of fighters with a fourth grade education have inflicted substantial losses on the worlds largest, most well equipped army for a decade.

Well, a Chinese corporation did just buy AMC. Wouldn't be surprised to find this sort of thing happening more often.

If anyone's curious...

THIS!

I can suspend disbelief only so far before I get all stabby.

/Like hearing the sound of a shotgun racking, when the actor/actress is clearly holding a double barrel.

I would not call it an 'invasion' but they could do some damage by just lining up their people and telling them 'there's food that way!'.

North Korea is the only case I can think of where genocide could be considered a kindness.

2012-05-22 09:03:28 AM
This movie was already made in Australia. They solved the problem by not even naming who the enemy was.
