TheJoe03: Rozotorical: Big difference between the Spurs vs OK. San Antonio is UT territory. Dallas not so much. Austin is also Spurs territory. Truth be told a lot of Central and South Central Texans consider Dallas as south OK.

I'd say that OKC/Dallas is a more natural rivalry, since OKC is basically far north Texas (fark how you said it!). OKC is like mini-Dallas. Do people in San Antonio even care about Oklahoma since it's not really their region. Regarding "UT" territory, Dallas is basically where all the diff college fans meet (UT, A&M, OU, Tech). Doesn't matter, all three teams will still have to play in the postseason against each other. Good rivalries all around, they need to move OKC to the southwest division.

Eh, no riots, and it was several blocks away from the arena. It still looks bad for OKC and pisses me off. Apparently there were a couple of fights in the same area after the last game. I will say as we came out of the arena and headed towards our car I saw quite a few guys that were obviously thuggin and appeared to be looking for trouble. The atmosphere outside the arena was awesome, but I have a feeling its going to be more muted in future games. Apparently this is why we cant have nice things.

Nah No one outside of the Dallas area really thinks of Dallas as being in True Texas unless something good comes from the city, which happens a couple of times a decade then for those reasons you guys are Texas again.. But really you guys are just too close to Oklahoma not to have it rub off on your collective intelligence. People think of you guys as a step above okies still. A small step. And if you think Dallas has a bigger rivalry with OK then Austin. Well, I would like to purchase some of what you are smoking. But Texans do love KD still, longhorn pride runs deep. Its OK and anything that reminds them of OK that they hate.

A lot of Oklahomans were Spurs fans before the Thunder came. Even if we dislike TX. If OKC lose, then we root for Spurs to beat the East.

Yeah. Us dumb ole okies. The nice thing is, northern texas wants access to our aquifers at a stupidly discounted rate. So, we are just not going to sell it to them at all, partially because of that attitude. I hope northern texas becomes dust bowl 2 electric boogaloo.

Umm I outed myself as a moron decades ago, but thanks for finally noticing. Frankly I don't give a damn what Texans think, I just live here I still call that shiat hole of a state Michigan home. Talking about Austin because for sports, Austin and San Antonio follow the same teams, with the exception of being slightly more saints fans in SA then in Austin. The rivalry exists between OK and Texas would be because of college sports, not pro. Honestly KD makes the thunder fourth-third favorite team for most Texans. But that all gets set aside when you are talking about the playoffs. But you are a Mavs fan so I wouldn't expect you to understand Texas politics.

So some guy from Michigan (no beef with that state, personally) is trying to act like he has a better understanding of Texas culture and politics? I was born in Houston, raised in Dallas, so I think I understand the locals a bit. First of all, to say that the rivalry between OK and Texas is purely about sports shows a high level of ignorance and short sidedness on your part. Texans and Okies would have a rivalry without football and without sports. If you do want to talk about sports, college is irrelevant. Plenty of Dallas people hate OU, actually a large majority do. The fact remains, OKC and Dallas are a more natural rival, North Texans and Okies run into each other all the time and are in the same geographic region.

No you are just misunderstanding me, Sports rivals between the states would be at the college level and that is all I was talking about. There is simply not a sports rivalary between Dallas and OK. It just isn't there. Okies root for Dallas teams for the most part. I can also assure you that I have a better understanding in Texas History then you and can recite an amazing amount of pointless facts about this state and it's history. I have been in Texas for 20 years now and I may be a moron but I am a moron who is obsessive compulsive when it comes to reading (swear to God I have had to get mental health assistance for it).
. What I am saying about north Texas is hardly controversial to most Texans in central and south Texas. I have heard it more times then I can remember. North Texans and Okies are culturally extremely similar.

Which is why when it comes to the NBA, OKC and Dallas is a more natural rivalry. Again, we are talking about the Thunder, the Mavs, and the Spurs. The Thunder are a semi-new team that is just developing rivalries, and what I'm saying is that Dallas makes more sense as their main rival. Also, I'll say this again, UT is not in SA. Dallas has plenty of UT fans and anti-Okies, that point is pointless.

umm
UT is in SA

Finally, regarding your point about DFW and north Texas somehow not counting as Texas is asinine if you actually been around Texas. It's even worse than people (mainly out of staters) claiming that Austin doesn't count as Texas because it's liberal or something. You could say west Texas is east New Mexico, east Texas is west Louisiana, south Texas is northern Mexico, the panhandle is western Oklahoma, and central Texas is eastern California. It's a big state and all of those regions together are what Texas is to me. A lot of people think of Texas in terms of the plains you see in the north, some see it as the desert in the west, some see it as Tejano, so I find it a bit strange for some people to act like North Texas is somehow not really Texas.

UTSA is in SA, the University of Texas (the Longhorns, which is the relevant team here) is in Austin. Didn't think I'd have to spell out such an obvious thing.

Yeah, Texas is the land of stereo types, and I have heard them all.

But there is a big cultural differences between central and south central Texas and north Texas. There is a small cultural difference between OK and north Texas. west Texas is more southwestern American and east Texas is more southern, those two cultural differences meet in south and central Texas.
North Texas influence (thank god), for the most part stops at Waco, I don't think anyone claims Waco though. There are more Californians in North Texas and OK then central and south Texas.
Frankly Texas is all North Mexico to me, and I doubt anyone really considers the Mavs (outside of the Spurs) as rivals.

Well I'm saying that if OKC is moved into the sw division, a rivalry will def develop. Also, maybe the Heat are our rivals but it might take another finals matchup to make that for real. Maybe Heat fans don't see it that way, but many of them weren't fans in 06.

Yes UT has schools in 9 cities in Texas 4 large 5 small, and although each campus has a different mascot they are all refered to as Longhorns. I don't think I was using logic but thanks for trying to explain something to me. UT has two branches in the DFW area with enrollment over 28k. This has very little to do with my point at all. At this point you are just trying to defend North Texas because of some sort of misplaced cultural identity. It is funny. Frankly the fact that you have to work so hard to avoid being insulted is amusing. Just give it up, you live in south OK.

That post came out of no where, you mad now or something? Why did you even say UT was in SA though? I was responding to that, so why is that a problem? Also, you're wrong about the nickname thing, my sister went to UTSA and I know for a fact they are called the Roadrunners. As a long time college football watcher, I know that UTEP is called the Miners. I just looked up UTD's macot, and it is the Comets. Stop talking out of your ass.

Of course I am defending where I grew up, why did you feel the need to talk shiat about north Texas anyway? Don't say things and then get all crazy when someone actually responds back to it. I'm not avoiding being insulted, in fact I wasn't aware you insulted me. Finally, I don't live in south OK, I live in the south Bay in California.

Mediocre at best, when they did make the playoffs they lost in the first round every time. Now they can't even make the playoffs. The last time Houston was truly relevant, the Mavs were a doormat. I get it, you're anti-Dallas, you can't actually be intelligent or reasonable on this issue. Dallas and Houston hate each other, so if they actually battled in the playoffs (like SA and Dallas did for the 00s), they would be rivals. Are you dense?

Why are you defending where you grew up you think North Texas gives a shiat about you? No I was insulting north Texas by proxy. You were working to defend north Texas extremely hard, it seemed that you felt insulted that someone wouldn't think as highly of it as you. I wasn't personally insulting you, If I was I would say something like only idiots with difficult personalities are named Joe three times. Not that I think of you as being difficult or an idiot. But if I was going to insult you I would call you out by name. And as I said, each campus has it's own mascot or nick name, but are still collectively referred to as longhorns, example http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/cap/admission/schools/utsa

So yeah, I only said UT was in San Antonio because they are in San Antonio and you said they were not. I guess you were confused at something related to that.

Are you autistic or something? Do I need to spell out that I didn't mean UTSA? This was more about things like rivals, basketball, and stuff like that, you turned it into a regional thing. Get a life, nerd.

What's with the personal insults? Is that an Okie thing?
Do I care what you meant? not really You were just trying so hard to show me how wrong I was for relaying a common opinion about north Texas I wanted to keep giving you attention.

No I score very low on the autistic charts unfortunately.
Have you interacted with a lot of people who are autistic? I would think that if you had, you would have a little more knowledge about autistic behavior is all :(. Not that I would ever accuse some one from north Texas as being knowledgeable or something. sorry sir, not meaning to offend you.

As too getting a life and being a nerd, I wish I was a nerd but sadly I am just not logical enough, more of a geek. I have a life. I just do my damn best to avoid it thank you very much.

It was also several blocks away from the arena and looks to not even be related to the game. This wasnt the Dodgers parking lot.
