I was told never go ATM...

2012-05-21 03:37:53 PM
Really? You're bothered that honest people still exist?

2012-05-21 03:37:57 PM
Well, not reporting the cash would have been a crime. And, ATMs generally have security cameras in the area.

Better safe than sorry.

2012-05-21 03:38:20 PM
I didn't read but subby knows that ATM's have cameras right?

rpm
2012-05-21 03:39:00 PM
Right, cause not reporting something that happens with something that's easy to review video footage of is a good idea.

2012-05-21 03:39:30 PM
Or, Subby, some people care about doing what's right no matter the cost and consider those who wouldn't tantamount to whores. Not me, of course, I'd be 1700 dollars richer and give away 100 to assuage my soul...

2012-05-21 03:39:41 PM
Honesty, cameras, etc.

EABOD Subby.

2012-05-21 03:40:08 PM
One time I called my bank to report about the card I found sticking out of an ATM and shoud I mail it to them. They told me to jsut destroy it. It was tempting though.

"No word yet if she'll be rewarded arrested for her act of goodwill.

FIFY

2012-05-21 03:40:22 PM
Yeah, she did the right thing. If she took the money, they'd have had a video of her, and likely of her car including license plate as well. She wouldn't have gotten to keep the money, and she most likely would've ended up in serious trouble had she taken it. It was either the bank's money (delivered by accident) or a previous customer's (left in the machine by accident). Either way, it will easily get back to its owner from video and ATM records, and she'll have a clear conscience (not to mention, no criminal record.)

Dumbass, Obvious, Stupid, and Florida tags must all be for Subby.

2012-05-21 03:40:36 PM
Glad the obvious point that your picture will be taken by the ATM camera as you are unjustly enriched was covered.

A more basic question I have is how someone managed to get more than $500 out by way of an ATM transaction?

2012-05-21 03:40:43 PM
"no word whether she will be rewarded"
Just like the article a few months ago about that waitress, the cops will give the person $100 and find a bullshiat reason to keep the rest to help fund their department

2012-05-21 03:40:56 PM
Subby is the reason the phrase, "America values" makes me laugh.

Since the video surveillance issue has been addressed, I'll just throw this in...

Automated Teller Machine Machine.

It's OK if you're in love.

It's a trap!

/that's the first thing I'd have been thinking if I found that much money in an ATM

She did the right thing. I guess. -_-

Something wrong with this picture!

/have never seen an ATM > $500.

2012-05-21 03:43:55 PM
As to my final comment -- cancel that. I reread the article again and noticed it said the money was sticking out of the deposit slot.

It was someone else's deposit. The previous customer probably tried to make the deposit but didn't realize that the intake slot didn't take the money.

2012-05-21 03:44:34 PM
Honest =/= Stupid. FAIL for you, subby.

2012-05-21 03:45:20 PM
Florida tag for not committing a felony. Excellent.

2012-05-21 03:45:36 PM
Kudos to this honest person, but this line warrants the Florida tag:

Boynton Beach Police say Adriana Allen called the cops when she couldn't get the money back in to machine.

2012-05-21 03:45:47 PM
Any first person experience?
I would assume that $1,800 in cash is assumed to be "drug Money" and impounded by your helpful police types.

/splity likety

And here I was thinking it was a bit weird that someone left a crisp, clean $20 on the side of the self-checkout register at Stop & Shop.

Those limits are bank controlled and can be changed.

Has anyone mentioned the fact that ATMs have cameras. Or that you're not a dumbass and/or stupid because you choose to be honest.

If this had happened to me, I would have done the same thing as the woman in the article. Not because of the ATM camera, but because it was the right thing to do.

Oh, and submitter, a -1 for you.

Yep and now i bet the cops automatically think someone is doing something illegal to deposit that money. I bet the person gets taken into questioning when they claim it, farking pigs

ROBOTwHUM4NHAIR: "no word whether she will be rewarded"

Still, $100 guilt- and risk-free for the ten minutes it took to call the police and wait for them to show? Sounds pretty good.

2012-05-21 03:48:48 PM
I wouldn't have called the cops but I would have called the bank to report it. I don't trust cops as much as I do the bank plus if there was a reward the bank would be the ones to give it and not the cops.

2012-05-21 03:49:00 PM
Yes, had she taken this money, it would have been theft. How do people still not get that money (or property) that is not yours is a crime.

Regardless of whether or not she would have been caught, she did the right thing.

2012-05-21 03:49:08 PM
I have never seen an ATM that issues $100 bills.

2012-05-21 03:49:58 PM
Rewarded? She's lucky she didn't get arrested.

If something like that happened to me I wouldn't touch it and just walk away. No way am I going to approach a cop with nearly two grand in cash that isn't mine. Not a chance.

2012-05-21 03:50:15 PM
I would have done the same thing. Why risk a criminal record over $1800?

2012-05-21 03:50:59 PM

MAYORBOB: A more basic question I have is how someone managed to get more than $500 out by way of an ATM transaction?

The limit is set by the issuing bank, and can vary per individual card. There are usually additional limits for using a non-branch ATM, foreign ATMs, etc.

2012-05-21 03:51:04 PM
As others have reminded subby, many ATM's do have cameras. If she did take the money, she would've been charged with a felony. So unless you are trying to go to jail, I wouldn't exactly say it was dumb of her to report it.

/double dumb@ss on subby

And the cop will return the $180 that was given to him as soon as the bank can ID the true owner.

It was sticking out of the DEPOSIT SLOT. (That's where the money goes in.)

You warrant the Florida tag.

It can be done if you get a limit increase from your Bank. Anyways, didn't we just have a story yesterday about a guy getting arrested because the teller accidentally gave him too much money and he walked out with it?

2012-05-21 03:56:17 PM
I believe the proper usage is "ATM Machine".

red5ish: I have never seen an ATM that issues $100 bills.

Neither have I. I have gotten 5000 yen at a time from an ATM though.

My limit for my ATM is $660 a day, but I try not to withdraw that much.

No, that would be "automatic ATM teller machine" - don't you know no english?

GameSprocket: Well, not reporting the cash would have been a crime. And, ATMs generally have security cameras in the area.

If you take money that is just left lying around its a crime.
When a bank does it, its perfectly legal.

I lost my wallet once with over $1000 in it (tax return). It was returned to me the next day with every dollar in it. I've turned in or returned any wallet I have found since then.

/It's called doing the right thing subby.
//Your mother should be ashamed.
