Hush was pretty great.

I like that Joss is doing well these days. If for no other reason than it makes some people mad.

/the flipside is that the Browncoats are gonna be derping even more loudly for more Firefly

I think that Firefly is the best thing whedon has ever done, however, thanks to the movie, the show has to die. the most interesting characters are all dead and the mystery is all solved.

It might not have been the best episode of the series but When She Was Bad was when the show started to hit its stride

I'm surprised the one where Xander fights the zombie gang alone wasn't on there. That episode definitely made me happier than any other.

Thinking about it more, I think the best thing about the Avengers is that Joss, a reasonable feminist, being screenwriter and director somehow convinced the social justice wank crowd that this was going to be some sort of orgasmic 2+ hour orgy of perfect feminism.

And then they all promptly fell upon each other, arguing whether or not it was "ok" for Loki to call Black Widow a "mewling quim".

/it warms me heart, it does

Pretty decent list. Few issues, most have been noted already here.

The top should be 1) "Hush" and 2) "Once More With Feeling", but I can definitely see why Joss would hace "Innocence" first as it fits much more with the show and Joss' idea, unlike the others. I really would have liked "Band Candy" and one of the episodes that focuses on Xander being on the list (with "The Zeppo" as a strong contender).

Oh, thank you for reminding me. I'd been thinking of putting in the 5th season as background. Maybe I should skip to season 6.

Uh, you do know that "Buffy" preceded "Firefly", right? And that he wrote the screenplay for the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1992) movie too.

I watch Pangs every Thanksgiving... it's become a tradition.

Also, besides the notable greats (Hush, OMWF....), Lovers Walk and Tabula Rasa still make me laugh.

Actually, we're going to derp that Whedon screwed the pooch by murdering any hope of the series continuing via the movie.

So . . . DERP!

Just finished watching all 7 seasons again over the last few months. Hush is still creepy. The Body is deeply depressing. OMWF is funny but moved the plot immensely (I think I was in heaven.) Dopplegangland, the Zeppo are very solid. But I still have a warm spot for the Mayor and for Principal Snider. Just fantastic characters. But that's the kind of wooly headed liberal thinking that leads to being eaten.

Dramatically, I liked it.
Judged strictly in terms of a musical, however it's a mixed bag.

So whats his 10 fave episodes of Firefly?

Anderson's Pooper: Dopplegangland, the Zeppo are very solid. But I still have a warm spot for the Mayor and for Principal Snider. Just fantastic characters.

Great characters, great story arc. Not any great single episodes that focused on them. As I have said before, as a show there was a big drop after season 3, but most of the best single episodes are from after that point.

I was watching Boogie Nights the other night for the first time in a while, and it was driving me nuts that I couldn't place the guy who gets Dirk to rub one out for him and then attacks him, until I realized it was the lead zombie from Zeppo (Channon Roe).

MagSeven: Never watch "The Body" if you've recently lost a parent.

Every time Anya delivers her speech. Every. Damn. TIme.

Anya: "Are they gonna cut the body open?"
Willow: "Oh my God! Would you just... stop talking? Just... shut your mouth! Please!"
Anya: "What am I doing?"
Willow: "How can you act like that?"
Anya: "Am I supposed to be changing my clothes a lot? Is that the helpful thing to do?"
Xander: "Guys-"
Willow: "The way you behave-"
Anya: "Nobody will tell me."
Willow: "Because it's not okay for you to be asking these things!"
Anya (crying): "But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she's, there's just a body, and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore! It's stupid! It's mortal and stupid! And, and Xander's crying and not talking, and, and I was having fruit punch, and I thought, well Joyce will never have any more fruit punch, ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why. (She puts her hand over her face, crying.)"
Willow (after a long pause): "We don't know... how it works... why."

palladiate: I'm surprised the one where Xander fights the zombie gang alone wasn't on there. That episode definitely made me happier than any other.

"The Zeppo." Definitely one of the best episodes of the entire series. Up to that point Xander was always kind of a joke, and while that episode didn't reveal him to be a hidden badass (he's still kind of a chump throughout it), you do learn that he has some seriously well-hidden depths. "I like the quiet," indeed.

As for Joss's picks, there are some good ones in there, but wtf is "Conversations With Dead People" doing in there? That episode was awful. It might have been merely bad if they had managed to get Amber Benson to come back for Willow's segment, but when they couldn't get her to return, they should have scrapped the whole concept. Trying to replace Tara with Azura Skye's one-episode throwaway character Cassie was a horrible idea, and the end result was to take a mastubatory, pretentious episode and add a heaping dose of "WTF Am I Watching?" to it. Not only was that a shiat episode, it was the lowest point of the season - which is saying something, because Season 7 was pretty much 100% crap (until Faith showed up).

I would definitely have put "Bad Girls/Consequences" on that list above "Conversations With Dead People." Also "Tough Love," if only for this exchange:

Glory: Bag of tricks?
Willow: Bag of knives!

FirstNationalBastard: What, no Beer Bad?

No baby, they're looking for the 10 best episodes; not the 10 worst episodes.

The Zeppo is probably my favorite that isn't on the list. Another contender is whichever episode had the flashbacks that chronicled Spike's life (I can't remember the title). 1970's Billy Idol Spike with the eye makeup battling the Disco Blaxploitation Slayer (from which he nabbed his signature leather trenchcoat from her corpse). After being humiliated, Spike shows up with a friggin' shotgun, ready to blow Buffy away despite the chip in his head. Finds her crying, puts down the shotgun, and sits next to her on the porch to comfort her. Some good pathos, there.

2012-05-21 08:12:09 PM
Damn, just reading that made me teary eyed. Thanks a lot.

My favorite is probably OMWF, just because every time I do something "persevere-y" I sing, "I walked through the fire". I know, major dork.

2012-05-21 08:16:11 PM
Also, I think it was "Potential"; Season 7: the one wherein all the worlds' vampire slayers' are called at once.

I can't argue with any of the other choices though. Well, except Beer Bad.

2012-05-21 08:17:08 PM
Once More with Feeling was horrible. The concept was amusing, but only Giles and Tara could sing their way out of a wet paper bag.

The Gift was not only a great episode, but was a better series finale than the one from season 7.

The show is dead. It was a ratings failure, and the movie was a bomb. Browncoats need to be happy with the fact that they got a damn movie in the first place, and continuing comics. You'll see Buffy back before you see anything Firefly.

2012-05-21 08:22:25 PM
The Zeppo should definitely be up there. It was a great Xander episode.

Another favorite of mine, was season 2's "Halloween". It's the one where they all become their Halloween costumes. Willow became a slutty looking ghost time and Xander became a kick ass soldier. It was great role reversal.
upload.wikimedia.org

Giles - "And-and your-your costume?"
Willow - "I'm a ghost."
Giles - "Yes. Um, a-a - the ghost of what, exactly?"
