The Braves interleague schedule is brutal more often than not. But, I still don't understand how they play two series against the Yankees when other teams don't even play 1.

All that being said, I just read that the Rangers made their first 25-man roster move. At the end of May! Holy crap.

Worst Yankees team in a decade and they barely get the two wins they got. I wouldn't get cocky.

Well allegedly, everything changes next year in terms of matchups.

The Rays will win the division even if they have to play an 83 year old grandmother using a walker at third base.

Why would you care? The Yanks appear to be a .500 baseball team. Not sure why that's a huge disadvantage.

JohnBigBootay: Why would you care? The Yanks appear to be a .500 baseball team. Not sure why that's a huge disadvantage.

eh, its a little deeper than that. The Yankees actually have a high-ish OBP but an abysmally low RISP, which is the main thing accounting for their losses, which means A) they're generally playing below potential and B) they're getting a fair amount of bad breaks (for example, if Granderson is a half step quicker, the Yankees at the least send Sunday's game into extras).

Not his point though; it IS unfair that division rivals don't have the same interleague opponents, though like I said, supposedly this is being addressed next year as a necessity of year-long interleague.

I don't know about putting the Braves ahead of the Dodgers. The Nationals are better than the Yankees. Is there any reason why the Phils are higher than the Mets right now? Also the Madres are too damn high.

Honestly I'm just nitpicking, but I think these rankings are good. I didn't realize the Red Sox had scored 221 runs this season.

As much as I hate to admit it, the Phillies' record is not nearly as far out of line with their run differential as ours is. Which means that either we will pick it up going foward and be helped by the fact that we were lucky in the early-season, or we're about to be slammed by that evil biatch known as regression.

Lots of NY and Bos people come down to Camden Yards when their teams are visiting. I've had the pleasure of interacting with Sawx and Yank fans first hand on more than one occasion.

To be fair, there are a fair amount of asshole fans in Baltimore, but they tend to be the type to get drunk and run on the field looking like idiots instead of the type to constantly instigate physical confrontations for no other reason than they are Yankees/Sox fans and are therefor better than you.

Question for Subby: If AL and NL East teams truly are "categorically better", wouldn't a team from either of those divisions need to hold down first place in said rankings?

Just a thought.

The reason you get so many Yankees and Red Sox fans at Camden Yards is, quite frankly, it's the cheapest way to see either team even AFTER travel costs are factored in. I can't really speak to the quality of those fans though. Only time I've been to Oriole Park was because I happened to be in B'more anyway, and it was a game against the Rays (back when they were perennially basement), so plenty of seats available.

IIRC, the two Braves wins were come from behind in the 9th inning and closely contended (1 or 2 runs), while the Dodger win was a blow out.

Yep. Charge your iPod for the drive there and back, great ballpark to watch a game in, they let you move down when nobody shows up, it's cheaper...great to go to Camden Yards.

In both the NL and AL East every team is .500 or above (aside from the Red Sox who have won something like 12 out of 15 this month and are one game out). Texas plays Seattle 20 times a year.

No, a win is a win, but a blowout is important in terms of power ranking. If you want to go "a win is a win", then the Dodgers are better than the Braves because they have more wins than the Braves.

I would love to be your bookie "oh you only won by two so I don't have to pay out"

In fact, that's exactly how it works with many sports bets. Sporting bets are generally handicapped. If a team doesn't win by more than a certain point total, the bookie doesn't pay out. Of course there are also cases where a bookie will have to pay out even if a team loses if they cover the handicap.

Sure it's less prevalent in baseball, but baseball is a much harder sport to handicap than Football Hockey or Soccer in general.

Methinks the laughter was over someone biatching because their team has to play the Yankees in two whole series every year. Hell, the Orioles might have had a winning season or two in the last 15 if they played in a different division.

Duh, I get that. I was adding two runs on top of everything.

A win is a win, spread means shiat, besides it was the only two losses LA had at home so it was a big deal.

As a White Sox fan, I can appreciate that Woods paragraph. Not a bad way to retire at all in front of a stadium of Chicago fans, all of whom respected him no matter what team they rooted for.

I'm just amazed when guys write that they can't believe how good the Dodgers are this year. Down the stretch last season they were possibly the best team in baseball. Now they've got the McCourt shiat pretty much settled, and they are performing.

CSB from an O's fan here. I was at the Yard for the BoSox game in Sept. last year - the one ~before~ the big one that kicked Boston out of contention. Before the game we wished a group of Sox fans "Good luck!" One particularly dooshy fan replied "Pffftt...we don't need any luck - it's the Orioles!" followed by a bunch of giggles. Fast forward to the 8th inning. The same Sox "fans" are cussing & yelling at their beloved team, yelling "You suck!" at every player as he walked back into the dugout. A bigger bunch a fair-weather farkasses I have never seen. I really hope we beat the living snot out of them tonight.

Look at the bright side, his chances of surviving the Dusty Baker effect are far greater when he only pitches one inning. I guess Baker could run him out there every day until he finally breaks down.
