I suppose this is what we get for complaining we have no real culture here in Orlando.

"Tired of tourism, plastic and prepared culture and entertainment? Fine, here ya go."

It's like the cultural equivalent of a parent saying, "You want something to cry about? I'll give you something to cry about!"

That music is going to stick in my head ALL DAMN DAY now.

Took No. 1 Son to this concert in Denver last month. I know dick about Zelda but the concert was damn good, even with the Jumbotron videogame clips all over the symphony hall.

If nothing else it got a bunch of gamer kids out of their rooms and exposed to some real culture and music.

Hey! Listen!

It'll be a cool concert

Nah, they'd have to top it off by performing the concert at half time of a Predators Arena Football game.

heh! the Orlando Philmarmonic is funny enough!

The conductor of it insists that you call him Maestro.

Now Link,
Fill up your hearts,
So you can shoot,
Your sword with power,
And when you're feeling all down,
The fairy will come around,
'Till you be brave,
And not a sissy coward.

Followed by "LOL no, Samus is the princess that Zelda keeps rescuing."

I wonder what would happen if that damn owl shows up and won't leave. Will they play the tune (which, I have dubbed, "that damn owl's damn theme song") indefinitely?

/ you know of that damn owl, of which I speak. The one who follows you around all the time.

And here's a link to what it might sound like: Just kidding, because I'm too lazy and also too lazily pissed at subby to post a LINK.

Also, this would make a great concert for stoners living in Orlando.

That's impossible. That dude is all muscle. They tried to pass that off as a chick pretending to be a dude? No fking way. That dude has zero hip action, and how did she turn her breast fat into pectoral muscle? That's some strong magic.

I went to a videogame music concert here a couple years ago...a lot of neat stuff, including that guy who speed-plays the Mario music on the piano, lots of well-known game music with projected video, all culminating with the Halo theme played by a full orchestra and chorus plus electric guitar. It was really quite nice.

2012-05-21 09:52:11 PM
Do you recognize this music? Well, dug!
Why? Cause it's the motherfarkin' legend of Zelda!

Personally I rename Link to "I say", which makes everyone in the game sound like Foghorn Leghorn.

More Friends was awesome, but that's the only one I've been able to make. Here's hoping I can make this, there's still plenty of almost front-row tickets available for the LA concert in two weeks if I can afford it.

/Also haven't been able to play Skyward Sword for more than 5 minutes yet, so I'd feel like a total poser.

Would love to go see this. Video game music re-imagined can turn out pretty awesome. I'd like to hear a new version of that song you play in the Windmill that freaks the guy out.

The Black Mages put on an awesome show of Final Fantasy music if you can find some videos. Crazy composers.

The CDs Final Fantasy: Love Will Grow and Final Fantasy: Pray still make their rounds in my mp3 library.

Video game music, often based on or composed with complex symphonic instrumental arrangements = Not real culture.

Seriously, go to a orchestral performance of some video game music, then pass judgement. Stop assuming that everything that doesn't fall within your narrow preconceptions doesn't qualify as "culture".

I don't think that was the comparison he was going for. Regardless the difference between a live performance of an orchestral arrangement from a video game is vastly different than hearing it while playing the game. It can introduce people to an entirely new side of music they may have not noticed before.

I've heard recordings of it. It's pedantic and banal. If it wasn't connected to popular video games no one would give a damn.

Oh really? Sure, some of it is campy fun like the London Philharmonic playing the Angry Birds theme, but there is some great music by very talented composers as well. Maybe if you got your self-righteous pretensions out of the way you'd understand that at the very least these performances are a fantastic way to introduce the classical style to a new generation and other audiences. Regardless, dismissing the material and the concert-hall experience as having no redeeming cultural value just because you don't like video games is absurd and does nothing but serve your overly inflated ego. Stop being such a condescending twat for once in your life and realize that just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's not of value to anyone.
