I don't believe the Arch Deluxe ever came in styrofoam containers. McDonald's quit using styrofoam in 1990. Maybe Subby is thinking of the McDLT.

I loved the Arch delux. It came in a cardboard container. The novelty was the meat and chesse half of the burger was on one side of the box, and the top of the bun with the lettuce and tomatoe et all were on the other side of the box. Youi'd put the whole burger togethor once you were ready to eat it.

McDonalds advertised it as "the hot side stays hot, and the cool side stays cool".

It was actually pretty good and once of Macdonalds first attempt to go a bit upscale with thier burgers.

/don't be hatting the McArch Delux.

So, like a minute after you bought it, likely a few minutes after they made it. Genius!

I liked the McDLT. Those deluxe burgers or whatever they call them just are not the same.

Anyone else remember OK soda? There was a 1-800 number on the side of the can that went to a recording that reminds me of zombo.com. I think it was put out by Coke.

Also, Crystal Pepsi wasn't on the list, and neither was Tab Clear.

They had to cancel the McDLT because styrofoam was killing the baby seals

I actually liked Crystal Pepsi.

But dear Pepsi... BRING BACK JOSTA!!!

I am reminded of the Futurama episode where Fry buys a bag if individually wrapped Oreo components, unwraps each piece, puts them in a special machine, clamps the pieces together, removes it... and pulls apart the cookie to eat the cream center, leaving a pile of three empty little bags for each cookie he ate. This sounds like that.

Also, SLIDESHOWS ARE A FAILED PRODUCT AS WELL, DAMMIT. OK, so you can't eat them. But anyone using them can eat ME, dammit.

The only problem I see with the coca-cola part of it. Was that the new formula was apparently the old one. But everyone got so used to corn syrup, etc that they didn't want it.

According to my parents anyway. Who remember the old flavor.

I'm a little embarrassed to say that I simply could not deal with the green ketchup, I know it tastes the same, the texture's that same and the only, ONLY, difference is the color, but after managing to try it once I never ate it again. Just too weird.

I don't think green ketchup failed. I just saw it at Smith's the other day.

DEFINITELY spent hours calling that number...and way too much money on that soda as a stupid kid.

spidermann: JOSTA

Dude, go to the Mexican food section of your grocery store, buy soda called cola champagne (it's a flavor, not a brand). Taste exactly the same as Josta (without all the energy drink marketing hype).

I loved "Like" soda. I can't remember how long it was around, but I was pretty bummed when they quit making it.

For some reason when it's green people can recognize the horrible taste.

i had breakfast mates on a camping trip and it was a treat. wow and Olestra failure was caused by people eating more then the recommended amount resulting in the plumbing leaking.

No, it wasn't. Diet Coke is not just the Coke formula without sugar, it's actually a completely different formula to match better with the sugar-free sweetners. Since Diet Coke was increasing sales by leaps and bounds the thinking was that people must like the taste of Diet Coke so they reengineered the original Coke flavor to match the Diet Coke flavor. Apparently it tested well and the rest is history.

The lack of OK Soda on the list is disturbing.

Crystal Pepsi and Captain Morgan Spiced Rum was my favorite sorority-mixer drink in college!

I thought the whole "fiasco" behind New Coke was to change the original formula to include HFCS instead of sugar. So when people said "Bring back the Old Coke", they did with the HFCS changeover & noone complained... I noticed around here that even the mexican store imported Cokes now are being made with HFCS (was the only places to get REAL Coca Cola made with sugar)...

I don't remember Taco Bell trying to market a burger but in the northwest a local chain called Taco Time had a taco burger. I loved them and every time I was sent up there my first stop after picking up a rental car was Taco Time.

Did you rent a car so when you ate the taco burger and your bowels exploded, you just returned the car and let them deal with the aftermath? That is what the insurance is for, right?

html_007: Team Crystal Pepsi!

Me too, although in my case it wasn't for the taste. It was because one of my college roommates chewed tobacco and liked to spit in empty soda bottles. If my Crystal Pepsi looked too much like regular Pepsi, I knew not to drink from that bottle. One of my other roommates, who drank regular Coke, had to learn that lesson a different way.

So much this!

I had a friend that drove for a 7up distributor who gave me a couple of free cases of it after they pulled the product. I drank maybe 1 a week till they were gone. Sad times.

CSB

I was working as a student in the industrial design dept of a company that made styrofoam products for McDonalds in 1990. They had this really cool new package designed for the McDLT that would have made it easier and fun to "assemble" the sandwich. They spent months getting the thing to work correctly and had the tooling all ready to go.

The very day McD's signed off on the final design, they announced they were moving away from foam packaging.

The entire office sat dumbfounded and fearful of what would happen next. FWIW, the whole assault of foam packaging during the "ozone crisis" was stupid. It was the first time in my young life I witnessed a public being manipulated by bad "research" from a few loons and one market segment being blamed for the ills of many.

I miss Crystal Pepsi. The was another Pepsi variant in the mid -90s called Pepsi XL. That stuff was awesome, but it too went away like Vanilla Pepsi and Pepsi Blue.
