I despise the movie, but mostly because I made the mistake of reading the book (a pretty caustic black comedy) before Robert Zemeckis got hold of it and turned it into a maudlin Hallmark card.

I read the book too, but still enjoyed the movie. Maybe because of technology allowing Tom Hanks to show up in old videos, etc.
