Also, I lived somewhere that about 10 years ago changed the name of the borough. The cost to the people of the town was a couple of million back then (everything that the borough does has to have its name changed, pretty much overnight). Waste of money.

As someone who lives in Staines...I'm getting a kick.

The place is a nice little town - there is no ghetto but you do get plenty of chavs in the city centre from time to time.

Ali G gets a bad rap, IMHO.

Some of his guests were incredibly rude. For example, Buzz Aldrin didn't even answer Ali's question about what it was like to walk on the Sun. He just snickered... How can you conduct an interview with someone who's not taking it seriously?

A year or two before Da Ali G show premiered on HBO, I spent a semester in the U.K. in the same county where Staines is (Surrey) which is possibly regarded as the "poshest" county in England. It's only a few train stops away from Windsor Castle. The American equivalent would be something akin to Jamie Kennedy in "Malibu's Most Wanted".

I work in Staines. It really is a shiathole in places. Slough is a bit ropey too but that lebanese grill place has excellent munchables.
