verbaltoxin: The only candidates who would actually work towards ending the drug war are Jill Stein from the Greens and Gary Johnson from the Libertarians. They aren't going to win; they aren't even on the ballot in some states. If one did win, they'd face a deadlocked opposition to most of their views, especially this one.

/The drug war should end
//But it'll take another generation before it does

deadlocked opposition but dreadlocked support. My bet is with the Rastamen

"Hey Penn, how about for your next trick, you sit right there and watch me drink this beer, and smoke this cigarette, and you don't say a farking word", it'll be beautiful, but apparently never happen.

I bet even Sigmund and Leroy could pull that one off.

A friend of mine lives in Vegas, and she says Penn is a notorious douchebag.

One friend of hers was on a flight and got bumped up to first class for some reason and just so happened to end up seated next to Penn... She orders a drink from the FA, and Penn just starts lecturing and needling and moralizing about how she shouldn't drink, and just kept going and going till like 30-40 minutes later she asked to FA if she could go back to coach.

Another time, he goes with one of the crew guys from their stage show when he's going to get a tattoo. The whole time the tattoo artist is working on his buddy, Penn is just prattling on about how the tattoo artist shouldn't smoke or drink, till finally she tells him that if he doesn't shut his piehole, he would be waiting for his friend outside.

I find the guy entertaining, and I agree with a lot he has to say, but he sounds like a typical annoying libertarian douchebag,

TheJoe03: "What I'm not going to be doing is using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state [medical marijuana] laws."

Barack Obama, Oregon Mail Tribune, March 22, 2008

Again, you're not helping your argument. Obama is a man with a law background. "Try" has meaning. As it is, the majority (not all, again, WHICH IS A PROBLEM TO ME) of raids have, in fact, taken place against dispensaries that are profiteering, which is not legal per the state laws that exist on medical marijuana nearly (if not) everywhere.

The earlier quotes you posted almost exclusively included the word "users." Has Obama been targeting "users" of medical marijuana?

AGAIN, I don't like how Obama has approached this issue (and his authoritarianism is possibly going to be his downfall in the next election), and it's another example of a "liberal" politician who is too farking scared to lead this nation in a FORWARD direction. But I also don't like cherrypicking and ignoring KEY legal terms from a person with a legal background. He's clearly not as forgiving on the issue as he IMPLIED he would be, but the statements quoted don't directly conflict with the actions of the federal government (and, just maybe, that's the joke of it all).

TheJoe03: They also enjoy moving the goalposts and claim that we are stating that Obama promised to outright legalize weed, though not one person hear actually said that.

Oh, right. None of you are saying that Obama ought to legalize weed. Not a single one of you. *eyes rolled* Try being honest. Legalizing weed is the ONLY thing that this is about. I'm fine with that, but don't try telling me that somehow it's about "medical marijuana". There are dozens of other, perfectly legal drugs that work just as well, if not better for cancer patients. Furthermore, I fail to see why all of Fark's stoner brigade would care about medical marijuana, were it not for the fact that they know damn good and well that potheads abuse medical pot the same way that hillbillies abuse Oxycotin clinics.

Personally, I couldn't care less about pot being legal, if only we could criminalize being a stoner. Buy and sell all the weed you want, but the first time we see your dumb ass wearing an Iron Maiden t-shirt and watching one of Kevin Smith's retarded videos reminding you of how cool and clever you are for having watched "Star Wars", and we immediately strap your loser ass to the electric chair and pulse 300,000 gigawatts through you.

TDBoedy: TheJoe03: GoHomeAndGetYourShinebox: Obama ran as a centrist, and he governs as a centrist. He never promised to legalize dope.

Dope? Anyway, he did promise to pull back the feds from states that legalized MEDICAL marijuana. It is an actual campaign promise that he has broken. I'm pretty sure that he is in charge of the justice dept, so he does have the power to actually fulfill this campaign promise. Hell, even if he raided the dispensaries once in a while I wouldn't care but recently there has been a huge increase in raids in California (and a whole bunch of places around me). That said, Romney is an even bigger tool, so I hope Obama wins anyway, because I'm not even sure what Romney would do if he was in charge (on every issue).

vote cthulu/dagon 2012

They're my write in candidates.

I like Cthulhu's stance on pot, but I'm not happy with his soul eating position.

The President is legally required to enforce all of the laws, not just those he agrees with. Yes, I know Penn is hoping a Republican gets into office because he wants a tax cut, but his entire position is moot. There are an elaborate system of drug laws passed by Congress. The only way to stop enforcing them is to have SCOTUS toss them out as unconstitutional (they are constitutional, so don't hold your breath) or have Congress pass new legislation dismantling them. That is the only way that pot will be legalized. Write your Rep and Senator.

I have a question for the people defending Obama on this: he is basically continuing the Bush era policies on the War on Drugs. Were you in support of what George W did and you are basically glad Obama continued the policies, or does this issue mean nothing to you and you just want to support your leader no matter how horrible the policies are?

/Hey wait, that applies to War
//And the bail outs.

Love how Obama claimed he would call back the feds from medical marijuana clubs, did it for one year, than the next year ended up going even more full throttle against medical cannabis than Bush did. Just another politician. At least he didn't arrest Chong, I guess.

Cyber_Junk: Hideously Gigantic Smurf: Ah, Penn Jillette, an avowed atheist who rips on religious people and sends his daughter to THIS school...

If you're a responsible parent you send your kid to the *best* school you can, regardless of its religious affiliations. Its the only right move to make.

I don't think anyone who names their kid "Moxie CrimeFighter" is a responsible parent.

I love Penn, used to listen to his radio show all the time, watch Bullshiat, have seen P&T live many times. His very entertaining, and a really smart, well informed guy.

But every once in a while, he gets his head rammed right up his arse, and he just gets everything wrong.
